Thank you so much for such good explanations which give me good clues for things I must improve! 😎 Heel to toe and toe to heel change before or after jibe would also need some review! 🤗
Very interesting when I would be on a windsurfboard during gibe I am going " straight down" with the wind until turn is executed then a quick sail flip. With Kite surfing the kite is at 12 o'clock/zenith where there is minimal kite pulling you. So, now are you actually displacing the kite downwind momentarily as you surf down and then turn on the board?
Cool to hear the wind surfing comparison! With the kite, the wind speed actually carries it back. So it always (providing the timing is correct) will have line tension pulling you in the arc and the kite is always in a more downwind position than the rider. If its done incorrectly by turning the board first before the kite (not following it around) then it is possible for the rider to move further downwind than the kite. the moment that happens, the kite will slack line and either drop from the sky, or hopefully float back with the wind until the line tension is tight again but either way the gybe will likely not work. So by driving the kite first and following it around, the kite always stays slightly more downwind and pulling you. Hope that makes sense!
@ trexinvert. For a good flowing jibe the kite doesn’t stay at 12, it’s constantly moving, and therefore creating power, all the way round. It doesn’t really pass right overhead, Zenith, but lower, again keeping power, which you need as kiteboarding is smaller and less volume. Windsurfing wave board planing jibe, I stall by oversheeting and laying sail down, dumping power.
For the first time its easier to start on toes and exit on heels. This makes the exit on your comfortable riding stance and most people fine that is easiest to learn. Hope that helps
I was thinking the same thing ! Some good tips, but too bad you didn’t show the kite with the board to really get a better understanding of the timing - which is what I am struggling with :)
Hey Lori, in our experience, to gybe well its best not to think too much about that. As mentioned in the video, you want the nose of the board heading downwind as the kite passes 12, but that is only a rough guide because that exact timing is determined by your speed and how aggressively you steer the kite back, as well as how much you commit to the rail to either carve, or pivot as explained in the video. The number 1 thing is to start steering the kite back and then follow it around with your board. Its the feeling of maintaining line tension as you follow the kite around and back in the other direction that you are looking for. Hope it helps. :)
Many people love riding on their toe side instead of switching, myself only switch stance when I need to rest a bit. Having said that, I suggest you check Evan Netsch's channel, he has a good video on how to switch stance on a surfboard.
love the technical explanation, thank you for sharing
Perfect! Glad it was helpful!
This is a great video explaining the timing and movement in details. Thanks a lot.
Awesome! :)
This is perfection !! Keep up the great work !!
Thanks Kirk!

For sure Nicolas! Glad they are helping mate and thanks for the video suggestion! We do have that one coming very soon :)
Very good explanation! Thanks!

Nice explanation. If you were trying for the first time, would you go heel to toe or visa versa ?

Love these videos Guys ❤️🤙
Awesome thanks John!
Love the videos. Have you ever ridden a recent nobile split surfboard? Are they fun in chop and small/medium waves?
Do they still make them?
what beach is that? 🥰
This is Cabo Verde
One thing this video is missing - foot switch. But that's for the next video, right? ;-)
Haha yes Mike the foot switch is not part of Gybe... its coming very soon though :)

@@FlukesKitesurfing thanks !!! I will reread this response and keep trying. Makes twin tip so easy 😂

Great
Thanks!
a bit messy, but surely informational for beginners
Thanks for the feedback. Sorry it wasn't as concise as you would have liked :)
@kountchi Where’s your better instructional video, I can’t find it ?
