    Good day Shayne, Wanted to tell you I am so pleased with this mod. I'm very hard of hearing and could not hear anything from the built in internal speaker. I bought the amp/speakers and skipped on the buck converter. I mounted one speaker inside the case opposite the RTC battery with 2 sided tape to the case and added a jst connector to that. Then turned on the Serial port and tapped that for power using a JST as well. Enlarged the slot for the module pins a bit and also that extra hole in the module bay. Stuck the amp into the bay and plugged in the 3.5mm audio cable and viola, it is awesome. Thanks for sharing that.

      That's awesome! Glad it worked out for you. It really does make a big difference being able to hear it clearly.

    Ordered the parts will see how it goes next week. I'm practically deaf so this should be great for me.

    My TX16S sounds fairly decent. Seems like it has a 2nd speaker inside it that the 1st version didn't have..

      It does have 2 now.

      In my opinion not terrible either but when compared to other radios it's much quieter. Even my Radiomaster Zorro is louder. I'd rather not have to put the volume at max to just barely hear it. Perhaps my hearing isn't as good as it once was, lol.

    I wonder if you would get the same result, by just disconnecting the existing speakers internally and hooking up the new external, ideally 4 Ohm, speaker into the internal speaker connector. This way no additional DC/DC and amp might be required.

      I've see quite a few people swap speakers and it improves a little. I think my next test will be to amplify the stock internal speakers and see if they can sound any better with more power to them.

    Could the original speakers be upgraded? I have an elrs module plugged into the bay.

      I've seen people change the speakers and I don't think it is that much better. You could use the bottom Aux ports as mentioned in the video but you'd have to run those two power wires to the bottom of the TX. You would not use the DC-DC converter if you do as the Aux ports output 5V which can feed the amplifier directly. Then stick the speaker on the battery cover maybe?
      If you don't mind opening and modifying your TX these parts should fit inside, just not sure about the speaker. I think I'll test this external amp on the stock speakers and see how they sound.

      I wanna say that you could replace the audio module inside with this one and the speaker will fit in the case. Take a little more time to do but yeah I think it would be good.

    Why not use a transducer speaker where the rear speaker spot is and turn the whole radio body into a speaker ?

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  6 месяцев назад

      This was a first prototype to see how this cheap amp and speaker worked with the signal and power supplied from the radio without making permanent changes. Works amazing so now folks can tweak this concept and make it better! One of the viewers here did their own mod with the same speaker I used inside, powered by the bottom aux port and he loves it. I suspect it is working like you describe as a transducer inside. He sent me photos which I plan to share in episode 2 of the audio upgrade.
      I'm planning a "version 2" install video soon where I make my mod more permanent.
      If you perform a mod of your own be sure to let us know how you do it and how you like it!

      @shanesdiy on second thought I do not think I would do the mod on my mk1. Sound is ok as is and that is a major mod. I would rather fly than mod. Thanks anyway.

    What about rf output from new hardware? Did you check it if interference with 2,4ghz link?

    • @shanesdiy
      @shanesdiy  6 месяцев назад

      I have connected to one of my planes since this and everything worked but I didn't fly yet. I'll do a range test and confirm it still has the same range. I see no reason any of these devices would interfere at the 2.4Ghz range but certainly best to be sure before flying! Thanks for the question!
