My understanding is that this sequence of rhythms comes from Rusiannoff, who was one of my "grand-teachers" and likely one of yours as well! You are either missing or left out the last two steps: triplets on the inside (long-triplet-triplet-long etc) and triplets on the outside (triplet-long-long--triplet etc). I was missing those steps as well for the first couple decades, but it's been some years now since I've added them and it's really increased the effectiveness of this methodology. Hope it helps!
