This is known to anyone who wrestles. When an aggressive person gets a hold of you in a high stress situation there is no time you will be down. Two words: Sumi gaeshi.
It's so funny that you say that. I was pure wrestling when I got to judo and so I thought these guys can't stop my leg shots. So I went for single after single and all the black belts I wrestled kept dropping and kicking me over Sumi Gaeshi style. I never shot another single again in Judo practice. It was so automatic for them and all it took was a second for them to react. So ya you are so right here.
Good info for folks who are still learning new techniques and a refresher for experienced fighters. This is a great self defense move, just practice a lot and muscle memory kicks in during a real fight. Great stuff amigos, take care and God bless.
I loved this video. I was so great have a prospective from both sides of the technique and an outsider (the cameraman). I really appreciate it, there was so much quality.
And if you only like one or two martial arts, at least learn the defensive side the other martial arts. If only like boxing, learn takedown defense and defense against other forms of striking. I think takedown defense is a little more helpful because once you’re on the groun, you have get the person off of you, get up, and then run away... If you’re standing you can just run.
Aw, this was a really nice post. In concept I want to put in writing like this additionally - taking time and actual effort to make a very good video however what can I say I procrastinate alot and under no circumstances appear to get one thing done.
I've seen similar technique by the Police officers of COE in Brazil (COE is Command of Special Operations, in the State of Acre they are masters of Jungle Warfare) While they used to train Jiu Jitsu
Guys saying you should punch or strike, show zero understanding of TD's. If you attempt to strike while someone is taking you down, you will be taken down. Your hands have to defend the takedown as demonstrated (whizzer, peel hands or elbow or push and control head). Once the position is stabilized, then you can strike. Chad is legit. Good real world stuff here!
You gotta pitty the week (me) who get attacked more than the strong and through injury can't train or maintain. They really gotta pull something out the ether. So good to see this..
The version of the "Whizzer" I know is as soon as they grab the leg and you slip your hand thru and grab your own thigh, you then unzip your pants, pull out your thingy and WHIZZ on em! Works every time and they wont attack you especially if you stil have a full bladder! Also, jokes aside, whats the track / beat at the end! I must have it!
I really appreciate the time and effort and passion into showing us this technique (for free mind you). What worries me, this all being applied during high stress where the attacker is freakishly fast and strong while keeping composure during fight or flight.
That's actually pretty damn good defense. Not overly complex, and simple enough to do. Puts you in a decent enough position to go to a takedown. But also, sprawling the dudes face into the mat/ground works too. Either way lol
Trey Smith no its not even remotely good...4 steps...i suppose your opponent is just standing there like, "ok its still your move." if you can push the head, you can attck larynx...keep believing the bs.
I really don't like taking the leg out. It gives a easy transition to a double leg. I keep my foot hooked on the far knee so he can't run the pipe or turn the corner. It is good but I have some slight deference that makes it even harder to take you down.
If you watch video, and actually pay attention, he switches the way he does the removal of arm technique, towards he end of video when they switch stances. He switched from palm down, left hand pull the arm out sideways from more of an underhook approach, to going and pulling it from under the forearm palm up :s,
As for the question where does it come from....I believe its actual name is called an Over hook or front quarter. The name "wizzer" was a slang derived from being called "the wizard". Coaches are always yelling moves to their wrestlers and this is probably how it became "the wizzer." Dont quote me on the accuracy of this though, just what Ive heard / read.
Good video. Gives a very elementary and easy way to stop a single leg. I have my own ways, but there are more than one way that are highly effective and if it works for your game, use it and use it often. Anyway, the point I want to make here is, by reading the comments, there seems to be a serious divorce from reality when it comes to hand to hand combat. Eye rakes, throat grabs, spinal separations, and dim-mak death touches sound awesome, but it reality, if you're going up against anyone that just has the will to mess you up, all of that stuff is going to do nothing but piss them off. Forget going against an experienced Grappler, Wrestler, Samboist, Jui-Jitsu player, or Judoka. Go out and train! Some combat sport. Don't care which. Just as long as there's live sparring. It will ground you back to reality and show you that death touches/strikes actually mean YOU'RE going to die, not your opponent.
Combat is fluid, no one is going to give you the time to lock all of that in. Your best option is to grab his head and roll back, using his own momentum to take the top position. And even if you fail to get top position, you're still locking the choke.
As kids, we used to do that all the time. Its terrible. You just need to jump on the guy and your body weight pushes him to the ground or grab his waist and flip him upside down. Smaller opponents use it all the time because its the only thing they can grab but aren't strong enough to knock you off balance. If they are strong enough, they would do something else.
Chad, grab and control that whizzer hand, trapping it upward against your left inner bicep, as you step back/pivot 90° with the left leg, immediately follow with a 20-30° hip rotation as you roll his wrist over your distal bicep, or proximal upper forearm as a fulcrum, give him a safe place to roll (theres room for error, and varies with different strengths and weaknesses, but believe you me, the higher your stance level and arm placement in relation to his center of mass, the higher his hips will be above his shoulders, break the intensity of the evil wrist throw, by allowing him to drag him across your quadriceps and use your left hand to hold his upper body up, unless hes an asshole, then follow through and flick your hands in an exaggerated follow through movement and shout , “ No Hippies!”
ALL these demonstrations should and must include a "real life", full strength, and full speed example... if not, they just look like Art Attack drawing lessons
i don't do wrestling very much but whenever my opponent's head is below my head then it is elbow time, just shove my elbow all the way inside their skull, solve most of my fight scenario nearly instantly.
Only issue I see with this is the Whizzer. Pretty low percentage of getting your hand under his armpit like that before he throws you. You need to show these things at decent speed with actual aggression. Otherwise people like myself will pick out issues and question things. When i do a single leg you are going to be heading towards the floor within half a second of me grabbing you so this seems too complicated. I am not trying to be smug and say my single leg is better than others as it is the same when someone does a proper single leg to me. Half a second is all I have to defend.
cheeky tip - not that you'll be able to tell in the field - if they've had any shoulder dislocations n their tendons are still lose that chicken winging will make them very uncomfortable.
no it fucking doesnt. ive never met a one eyed bouncer or anyone whos lived in a rough area. you can watch street fights on youtube. no one ever goes near the eyes
There's one thing we learned from the UFC fighter Jon Jones is nothing beats fingers in the eye. You don't need to get this complex if you smack him in the back of the head put your fingers in the eyes and head peeling down.
um bullfuck? a)he's trained. elite actually some say no 1 p4p a guy that good will obviously have an edge b) he's doing it against guys who agree its a foul thats where they get a shock from it, or they are milking it to get a dq or point deduction c) have you seen how long he fucking is? his reach advatage might be playing into how he's able to eye poke. just saying
Mr. Orangeaide alright, let some guy poke you in the eye, bite you, and hit you back in the head and see if you can still get the take down. Prove me wrong, post the vid😉
A person that is skilled enough to go for a single leg will not give you the time it takes to do that technique. A good downward elbow to the cervical spine will stop any attacker in a self defense situation. In MMA the best thing to do is work on timing and go for an Anaconda choke /D'arce choke while sprawling.
Gear Shock that works but if the attacker has a weapon he will have a chance to go for it, when you elbow someone in the spine there's a big chance that they will be paralyzed or at least disoriented for a long period of time. Enough time that you'll easily be able to get away or cause more damage if needed.
Chris Shumake targeting the eyes doesnt need accuracy nor power. not everyone can drop an accurate and strong elbow on top of a person's head. children to senior citizens can rake their fingers across a person's eyes and can deal the same amount of damage.
Gear Shock I've seen someone do a lot of damage with a knife after a flash knockout / knock down and the other person not aware that he had a knife. I'm sure the same could be done with a pistol. Maybe not to the intended person but people around.
if you've ever done bjj or wrestling, you know when a takedown comes at you, it's just lighting fast 99% of the time, so in my humble opinion this takedown defense is not a feasible option unless you're very good. I'd rather go down and rely on my bjj
Just an elbow strike to the back of the neck(brainstorm) does the job. Would actually put the attacker in a wheelchair or worse. The street has no rules against hitting the back of the neck like the UFC. Keep it simple.
no. there just gonna push through. in training fighters take those bumps and bruises all the time and they keep going. all youre gonna so is piss them off
Agreed-but in case he is on alcohol/steroids or you don't strike hard enough -just good to have some idea of at least the whizzer and creating the head barrier.
Look up the original UFC fights from the beginning. You had guys throwing elbows to the back of the head and they'd still get thrown around and taken down. When you're in a life or death situation, you're not going to give up a takedown over a simple elbow to the back of the head.
One option to try is to maintain the whizzer, get your body parallel to his, and while you whizzer down hard, kick that inside leg back. This should, at the very least, create a posture break and get him to put one hand on the ground.
Not knocking the tutorial but if this is happening on the street I'm taking whatever is given to me first which most likely will be me wedging my foot up into his balls and me with pushing head down or getting a wicked cross face on him. Either way while we're falling he's already in pain. Whizzers are good but if the guy is bulling into you and he's in tight on you you most likely won't have time to get the whizzer in. Most likely if you've trained wrestling and have done all the drills over time someone with limited experience or no experience won't get you down with a single or double leg take down. Like mentioned early in the tutorial someone with no experience is going to try and tackle you. Easy pickin' s if you have wrestling experience.
youre asking for a broken neck if you do that. 99 percent of the time dirty fighting tactics just piss the other guy off. go wrestle a few rounds with a high school wrestler and feel how strong and explosive they are. if you poked there eye, how much more strong and explosive do you think theyd be?
@@mr.orangeaide5260 This is a great point. If fighting dirty doesn't make the person win, they are in for a hell of a beating. I would stop beating anyone I'm fighting if they say they're done and quit, but if they fight dirty I will not only be more ruthless but it's not over til I'm done busting the guy the fuck up
Good luck trying to do this in a real circumstance , it's definatly doable and it certainly could be effective but that's complicated enough they you are gonna have to practice this alot and it's not gonna be easy to get all that done in the time it takes the person to drop you while holding your leg. But this absolutely could work I simply don't think it's something you should try. If someone shoots a single leg and they get ahold of it pull your other leg and hips back and closer to the ground and fire off those elbows to the head this isn't going to be the best way to stop a single but it's definatly going to be easier to do than the maneuver shown in the video. You have to think about what YOU can do easily not necessarily what's the most effective because the most effective shit is hard and if you practice and train enough to pull the effective shit off you probably aren't going to look for takedown defense on RUclips that being said I like the video and this absolutely could be used effectively
Great easy to understand format. Well done crafting your teaching method.

will most likely use this. thank you guys

My left shoulder needs a rest, but I want to go roll and give this a try. Nice video guys.
Nice counter here. Lo e it. Haven't seen this before. Nice way to escape the single leg take down. I would there are others as well. Thank you again.
I loved this video. I was so great have a prospective from both sides of the technique and an outsider (the cameraman). I really appreciate it, there was so much quality.
Thank for sharing Gentlemen. Vidoes like this are what make Funker Tactical the best source for Combat Arts. Peace

Does Funker Tactical ever go on tour? If so, when can we see you in South Florida?
Good job, great info, keep it coming!!
good move as a wrestler I'm always throwing the whizzer in anyway now some things more I can do from/ with that
interesting, makes for a good drill to make a back and forth out of this
you can go back and forth with any drill :)
thank you
arm in and pull on elbow little gem that been using strenght for years
top move grappling brothers

what do you think about the rear naked choke ? what is the best way to escape it ? 😊

"A Takedown Defense Even Experienced Fighters Might Not Know About!" This is the most common single leg defense from standing. Great video though.

push the head away and sink in the whizzer how is that even remotely hard
Look nice but not sure can be applied in real, I'd take the hook part of leg that might create a fraction of a second to slower the movement

How about adding eye gouge and throat attack. Easily articulable if some a-hole is trying to take you down, esp if you are an on-duty officer.
Great moves, however that's when you want to be nice. There are much worst things that one can do in that particular single leg attempt.
Chad, grab and control that whizzer hand, trapping it upward against your left inner bicep, as you step back/pivot 90° with the left leg, immediately follow with a 20-30° hip rotation as you roll his wrist over your distal bicep, or proximal upper forearm as a fulcrum, give him a safe place to roll (theres room for error, and varies with different strengths and weaknesses, but believe you me, the higher your stance level and arm placement in relation to his center of mass, the higher his hips will be above his shoulders, break the intensity of the evil wrist throw, by allowing him to drag him across your quadriceps and use your left hand to hold his upper body up, unless hes an asshole, then follow through and flick your hands in an exaggerated follow through movement and shout ,

Not seen before, because everyone will get leg-swiped within 2 seconds and realise it
when hitting the ground ;)

no. he has to bring the leg up to his arm pit to do that. In the position shown you can't reach the other leg to trip/kick it.
