    Fred loves it... Did a bit of knife defence in taekwondo many moons ago. We were taught 1) Run 2) If you can’t run, prepare mentally to get cut 3) Make distance 4) If can grab the arm, immediately use the attackers momentum and fling them backwards (was surprisingly easy to send them flying)... I used to train with another guy doing it at full speed. 1,2,3 and 4 impossible. I had best results copping a bit and going full attack, or a lot of the time was able to kick the hand holding the knife. Plastic knife but, who knows how I would react with a real one 😱

    I hope they paid this guy or at least got him some lunch. every video he keeps getting more abused lol.
    I don't care what that knife is made out of those strikes have to hurt.
    I am loving the videos tho. Huge fan Of Fred. I wish i could find the old videos I saw of him Instructing PSD work in close quarters. It was probably the most legit video I have seen on Close quarters protection. I cant even remember if it was on TV or if I saw it on Here. If anyone knows what the hell i am talking about please link me the clip. ( its a video of Fred showing how to protect a client in close quarter situations. The body movement and forethought is amazing.

      He thinks we will grab the knife and hold still. Just do a kick in the knee while he is trying to stab you.
      Think of it like how wing chun guys combined kicks and legs in cyclic motion

      Saral Thakur are you seriously thinking that he hasn't thought of that? I'll tell you what. Come down to Edmonton Alberta, and come to the Salvador Arnis Martial Arts gym. Challenge the instructor to a fight, and see how much your taekwondo will help you against a situation like this.

    This is very interesting, i plan on working security up here in canada and seeing how Mastro manipulates joints with counter force is something i never would have thought to do in a skirmish. replace the knife with a baton or use the counter force unarmed and you open up the attackers defence (if he stops your attacks). i'd love to learn his system it looks very effective for defence.

  • @bigoxtailbone2
    @bigoxtailbone2 8 лет назад

    fighting with intent is lost in training because the student needs to understand combat.the video reminds me of the people who learn and want to show the intent of training against someone who just wants to learn the technique. it looks effective because that is the intent. Very good reminder that if a stranger in any art wants to show you technique treat it like a combat situation. there was no learning here for the student. you need to change your mentality even in practice treat the "knife" with respect and be aware of its place.

    I wonder what commentators think, that defending against knives is an unbloody, suuper duuper dojo stuff?! First and forever set your mind up to kill your opponent because he/she is likely to commited to do so, forget the attitude gratefully sparing the opponents life. it will get you killed. A commited adversary in 90% of all cases, to "defend" against, can only be done by offensively attacking, prevail and win, defend and survive is a dead end street. Nice video, I like that video, without a combat mindset you will not go far in streets and battlefield, no one is forced to take fights for live and death, mio. of people walk 70 years through life without ever been robbed, attacked etc., if one works in a deadly environment or dangerous places, you better being prepared, mentally and physically. As said below, I must smile, seeing people think, killing with a firearm is different. In SEA, South Africa, South America, Machetes and knives are common tools of the criminals, even France and GB have a high percentage and they use it to the bitter end.

    Fred Mastro is excellent & I love all the videos that FT do, they're 💯. I'm somewhat concerned though lol I'm concerned that "bad people" could be watching this stuff publicly & use it. What he done in part one was quite detailed & could give confidence to an assailant. But I guess you could say that about most Martial Art videos. Anyways keep them coming GN : )

    • @marcushisevil
      @marcushisevil 8 лет назад +2

      Sounds risky but yeah pistol is much better than nothing at all. But remember knife is for close quarters you need to get in a distance to be effective with a gun. Gun will only work if you are really good with it just keep in mind knife is really dangerous in close range. I can only hope that I will never ever come across with a good knife specialist in a fight else Im gonna have my "Oh Shit!" moment faces lmao. :D

You cannot just abuse this guy every dang time like that. You would lose training partners. Also, he does a traditional inside block found in Taekwondo and Karate. I know he won't admit it though.

    It's scary enough when someone pulls out a knife.... But when that person is an expert has been training for years with knifes....... Oh shit.....
    but Fred seems like a professional and would use just enough force to let the attacker know he made a big mistake, rather than killing the guy.

  • @samvalentine9243
    @samvalentine9243 7 лет назад +2

    How is this defense? In what situation are you drawing a knife on an unarmed person with any intent other than to scare them? The only time this would happen is if YOU are the attacker.
    The only thing I learned from this is how to keep a knife in my hand so I may harm someone else with it. Thanks, Fred. Those wounds you got from trying to disarm a blade-wielder could probably have been avoided if you just ran away.
