    Awesome build... cool video. If I could offer a suggestion, I could see fabricating a set of walking beams and installing 8 guild wheels instead of the 4 you have now. Similar to how semi trucks implement their dual rear axles. The reason I think this would help lower the ground resistance by spreading the weight out over more area. This would also put a set of ground wheels in the middle of the track giving that much more traction to dig through the thick stuff. You could us a simple curved "leaf spring" to connect the axles of the rear Ground/guide wheels to put a fair amount of pressure down keeping the tracks tight, but still being able to absorb some bumps.
    AH just my two cents on the whole idea... OF course now I am going to have to go out and see what I can build after seeing this!

    • @JJ_ExMachina
      @JJ_ExMachina 6 лет назад

      Sort of like the walking beams in link below... just with wheels on both sides of the beam... and the beams made from a leaf spring, in which you could preload tension on when installing the support bars. You would just need to "U" bolt the wheels to the leaf spring.

      I'm no engineer, but I'd think that would add weight/rolling resistance/more maintenance to an already tested system that seems to work relatively well. The tension of the tread on the tires alone is enough, I'd think, to keep contact for ground pressure. Those little Hondas were peppy, but didn't have a whole lot of 'umph' to be practicable when it comes to the added weight of the system you've described. Adding more ground wheels means adding more suspension components which in turn increases the complexity/weight of the system. It's like a rate of diminishing returns--the smaller you get with these systems, the more they're scaled down, the fewer benefits you see on the complexity of the system. Now, on a large machine used for pushing loads of material or carrying a lot of weight, I'd agree. But something like this? Light is better over snow. But, this comment is five years old and what do I know?
