  • We caught up with Jayce Robinson as he put his new DHD Eclipse and Utopia through their paces at a local Cornish beach break. (Filmed in Autumn 23) The Eclipse is a highly refined small to medium wave board that pushes the limits of what is possible in smaller weaker waves. The Utopia is a performance shortboard designed for aggressive high-performance surfing in everyday waves.

I bought an Eclipse, rode it twice & sold it. I rode it in 1-3ft Sydney beach breaks with both quad & thruster set-up as recommended. The fin placement is weirdly compressed, the board was slow & the tail too wide for aggressive pocket surfing. Like the CI Andino fish, this board did not - for me - do what it said on the box. I have been surfing for 40yrs & am pretty competent. Fanning could make an ironing board look good at Snapper..

Not every board is for everyone, sorry to hear that you didn't get on with this one so good. If we all liked the same thing though, our shop would look a whole load more dull, rather than the 1000+ boards we have in stock!

You can ride anything at 5'6" and it will rip. Even a fence paling or toothpick. You just need a rider about 5'6" tall and weighing around 65kg. Mick F is thin and light and like another guy said below, QLD waves are easily rippable and you can get speed going quickly. Crap waves in Sydney certainly aren't QLD.

We're in the UK, and the waves are pretty crap by comparison to anything along the Australian coast! The Eclipse and Utopia from DHD have been put to good use here for sure.
