      @@the1337fleet I used to be plagued with migraines. I did spine shots, which worked once and made it worse once.
      It took years of good chiropractor care, and for years they would come right back if I went without care for too long. Now though, it's been years since I went. I miss it and could use it, but my migraines haven't come back. In the last 5 years, I think I've had 3? MAYBE 5?
      When I stopped hurting and my body worked better, I sttted being more active and ABLE to take care of my health. So chiropractic care helped me make lifestyle changes (active, sleep position, etc) to help my bones stay where they needed to be, and my muscles do what they need to do. Like most health problems, the real "fix" is multilayered. But I needed that part of it, no doubt!
      I'm so glad you've gotten better too. Migraines are a beast, and have multiple sources we're still learning. I don't know - maybe there's migraine sources that will not respond to chiropractor visits. I could see that if it's hormonal or etc. But it sure seems worth a sustained try!
      (Note to anyone thinking about this - the chiropractor visits actually flared everything up at first, and made it worse. If that happens, maybe please don't give up? Give it maybe a month? It is normal, and it will very likely get better, or your care provider can adjust care, stuff like that.👍)

    I extremely unhelpfully vomited a bunch when I got dehydrated, which is the opposite of what I needed because it a) dehydrated me more and b) prevented me from ingesting (and therefore replenishing) water. Turns out if you don't drink enough water it drops your blood pressure, which means your brain doesn't get enough blood, which apparently can cause some nasty vertigo. The doctor gave me meds to stop the dizziness (didn't work) and the vomiting (did work, but didn't stop the feeling of nausea), then sent me home with the instruction to drink water. That is probably the worst I have ever felt in my entire life. Sometimes I think about how if I hadn't gotten myself to a doctor, or if I'd lived before modern medicine, I would've probably died. 0/10 would not recommend dehydration

      @@wendys9500 so pretty bad. You start to get this at around 5 - 8% total water loss. Over 10% is where things start to get really bad and you risk permanent injury or death.
      That said it is easy to get this dehydrated on a hot day, doing strenuous physical activity or by not drinking fluids (typically to avoid trips to the loo if that is difficult). The intense vomiting is more unusual though.
      Side-note: drink water regularly anyway. Chronic mild to moderate dehydration increases your risk of a whole bunch of medical problems including UTIs and kidney problems (infections, stones and non-infective AKI/CKI). Try to keep fluids up throughout the day and avoid periods of fluid restriction.

    • @harmonicaveronica
      @harmonicaveronica 2 года назад +8

      @@wendys9500 this didn't just come out of nowhere, there was a lot of lead up. I was walking about 20 minutes to and from work every day in the summertime, and I was working in a restaurant kitchen. It wasn't in the hot part of the kitchen but it was still plenty warm, and I didn't have time to sit down or really use the bathroom for about 8 hours. I would often feel dead tired when I got to work - like I could fall asleep standing up. So I would drink some coke because it had caffeine, and would usually feel a bit better. Turns out that was happening because of dehydration, and coke helped not because of caffeine but because of liquid. Then one day I got really dizzy and started throwing up so I went home and called around to get someone to take me to a doctor because those were symptoms I didn't recognize so clearly I needed someone to tell me what was wrong with me and make it stop. The vomiting was not a direct effect of dehydration but a secondary symptom caused by the intense vertigo, which I don't think happens in all cases of dehydration. If you get an unexplained dull headache or feel intensely tired for no particular reason, it's past time to drink water. But otherwise just drink when you're thirsty! Your water needs will vary from day to day depending on your physical activity and how much water-rich food you eat

      I had something similar once. Instead of sending me home they kept me in the ER overnight and pumped a few bags of saline into me. Plus x-rays and blood tests just to be sure it wasn't something worse and some drugs to make me more comfortable. Spending the night in ER is no fun, but I'll take the added safety of having my status and recovery being monitored.

    • @DogDogGodFog
      @DogDogGodFog 4 месяца назад

      Yup. I had the norovirus somewhat recently and vomited and diarrhea'd a lot. It caused my body to become so dehydrated to the point where standing up for even 1 second would instantly make my vision blur and my ears ring, and I would lose my balance. At one point I actually fell over and hit my head on the edge of a shelf made out of ceramic tile, which obviously produced a bloated bruise that stayed on my forehead for about a week.
      Not to mention the fact that standing up for 1 second typically required a 30 minute recovery time. So, yes, after each 1 second standup, I'd have to sit down for about 30 minutes for my blood pressure to recover from that 1 second stand.

    I haven't vomited for many years (maybe almost 9 years). Because I have a phobia of nausea and vomiting. I took care of my stomach very carefully and not being able to vomit did not cause any vital problems. I don't know I just wanted to share this info...

      @@curiodyssey3867 Actually I am not that sure. It can be mostly psychological because this fobia is too big in my life. I think I literally convince myself not to vomit. But I generally eat at home, good and healthy food. Trying not to get cold and protect my body in bad whether etc, and if I suspect that my stomach will feel bad, I am taking a pill to relax it, but of course not too often.

    I have gastroparesis. My stomach doesn't empty as fast as it should, and sometimes it just decides to run backwards. Eating too much fatty or carb-heavy food can trigger it (so I rarely do that anymore) but sometimes it just decides, "Heck, let's barf today," even if I haven't eaten in 12+ hours, at which point even *my* stomach is empty. I get that vomiting is a survival mechanism, but I could personally do without it. :/

    One thing that I wonder is why, sometimes, it takes *so long* for me to vomit, even though it's clear that it's the only thing that can relieve the situation. I've been through cases where I could physically feel the contents of my stomach sloshing around, and I tossed and turned in pain for over an hour before my body actually did something.
    Of course, I could've tried to force the puking, but that seriously anguishes me, so I just counted on my body to be smart. It... kinda wasn't?

    I don't vomit that often, although it is rare for there to be a year with no vomiting at all. I've had a few things cause me to vomit over the past 2 decades. The most common of these is a stomach virus. I've only had diarrhea a few times from said stomach virus, but I always get nausea and vomiting with it. And if I drink water while I'm sick to my stomach, even small amounts, my stomach can't handle it and I throw up dilute acid, so I avoid water when I have a stomach virus. Only fluids I can safely take in while I have a stomach virus without any worry of vomiting it back up as long as I sip it is lemon-lime soda, like 7UP or Sprite.
    I also had a really bad case of acid reflux as a teenager. I mean, I usually didn't feel anything, and when I did, it was usually gas, lots of gas. However, this acid reflux came with an increased nocturnal thirst. If I drank water to satisfy that nocturnal thirst, I would get nauseous and then vomit up dilute acid + the medicine I took(I'm an epileptic, so I have to be on nightly meds) and whatever food was left in there.
    The one time I had appendicitis that wasn't from a blockage, I vomited once and had nausea throughout(it was that vomiting + pain that made me worried, and when the nausea and pain persisted the next morning, my mom drove me to the ER. Many hours later I get a CT scan with contrast(had an abdominal ultrasound a few weeks prior because of pain in the same area, negative, even the ovarian cysts that it turns out I had and still do have did not show up on ultrasound) and a couple bright areas show up around the ovary and appendix. Only the tip of my appendix was inflamed, and there was no blockage, so the doctors felt safe admitting me and doing surgery in the morning. The next morning, I have my surgery, and still, only the tip is inflamed.
    The surgeon did however see cysts on my ovary and said that that's probably what caused most of the pain I was having. Didn't do anything about the cysts though, as they were simple cysts with clear fluid. I still get ovarian cyst pain sometimes, and I can generally tell it apart from ovulation pain because the ovarian cyst pain has a sharper onset and then gets crampy whereas ovulation pain is crampy with a duller, but still noticeable onset.

      I'm not sure how much of a problem this is in your everyday life, but if this is causing you issues (uncontrolled weight gain, eating to the point of discomfort every day, etc) you may want to talk to a doctor/therapist/dietician. It isn't normal to not have hunger cues, and that could be caused by underlying physiological OR psychological problems. But of course if you get by in your day to day life without it bothering you, then just keep doing what you're doing - it's your body, after all!

    Was likely due to headaches, because when I don't eat anything for ~10 hours, I tend to get headaches, so around 4pm, things start to get bad for me some days. Then I throw up in the evening, and everything is fine.

    Vomiting seems like something _other_ people do frequently... I had a friend who got sick and vomited at least once a year! Surely if you're vomiting more than a few times a decade, something is seriously wrong with your health?
    For me, it's a rarity.
    I remember having a stomach bug from 1995, when I was 5. I remember telling my mum that I felt strange and had a watery mouth. She told me it sounded like I was going to be sick, and sat me down with a bowl. I was confused what the bowl was for until it happened. I had never been so freaked out in all my life. In an instant, a stream of liquid more foul than feces was streaming from my mouth. I remember it absolutely terrifying me.
    Then I remember I was sick in 2002 - I was twelve and think I undercooked some chicken in a fajita kit. I felt slightly unwell the early evening, so I had some spicy bean soup. It made me feel better for about 2 or 3 hours, but in the evening I was violently sick.
    Finally in 2006 - I was 16 or 17, and drank far too much vodka, before I realized just how strong it was. I remember projectile vomiting into the kitchen sink. Luckily I was so drunk, I didn't suffer the full sensation of it. It kind of felt like a dream/nightmare.
    Since that time in 2006, I've not been sick again.

On the other hand, my twin brother and I can go years without vomiting. It’s probably been decades for our mother.
    …unless you count acid-burps where you have reflux and accidentally let a little out, burning your sinuses/throat. That’s not really vomiting even if it’s digestive juices. If it didn’t come as a result of your body reflexively trying to evacuate your stomach, it shouldn’t count.
