I make a point of travelling through the Moab area every time I can. The views are spectacular, and if you have scattered clouds, the sun sets are way better than if you have clear skies. The reason is that the setting sun will paint the bottoms of the scattered clouds all shades of Red and Purple, with a blue sky backdrop and the towering red rocks. Makes for some of the most amazing pictures you will ever take.

Epic! Sometimes it just all comes together into a magical top10 flight. This was truly one of these times. Shout out to Jaclyn, her video of your tiny paramotor doing wingovers in front of the towers captured the immensity of the rock formations you were flying in. Wow. Just Wow.

A quick recommendation from a local... From Moab, take Hwy 191 North back to I-70, and head west. After about 30 miles, head south on Hwy 24 Towards Hanksville. After about 24 miles, turn right (west) onto Temple Mountain road into the San Rafael Swell, I believe it's marked for Goblin Valley State Park. All of the land surrounding the State Park is BLM, and there are plenty of unmarked camp sites to camp without fee, although there is a $15/car day use fee to enter the park/valley and wander amongst the goblins (we call them Hoodoos). Or there is a Goblin Valley State Park campsite for tents/rv's that includes a hot shower for $30 a night, which includes the day use fee. Check out this site for more info... stateparks.utah.gov/parks/goblin-valley/ Whatever you end up doin, keep smilin' ;-)

SWEET! I haven't been on a dirt bike in years. Miss my ol' 2-strokes! Just about everything is 4-stroke now - breaks my heart. Only 2-stroke I own now is my street bike - a 90% restored '74 Yamaha RD350. Love that thing. Still running the OE dual points ignition. Got the timing advanced about as far as I dare - it picks the front wheel up effortlessly. 😁 Anyway, must've been fun riding around that place - love the open space of the West. So different from around here.
That was some pretty amazing flight footage there! I've been through UT past the Salt Flats on I-80 four times, but never been to Moab. Been hearing about the place my whole life just about - I need to get out there one of these days.

Idea: make yourself a mobile windsock you can deploy on the van or the trailer so that when you come back in to land, you can know the wind situation and not have to guess. Perhaps use one of those pylon poles 4x4 guys use to fly flags when they drive on sand dunes. Only instead of the little flag, use a small windsock.
