It's moments like these that make true sporting heroes. You can argue the toss about overall technical ability but stepping up to the plate two-and-a-half minutes into injury time and placing the ball where millions of people want you to place it. Legend.
A brilliant free kick! I remember it well. I was 16, on crutches with a broken ankle. Had to be careful with my celebrations but that goal still send shivers down my spine. What it meant to be English & proud!
Terrific! After all Beckham went through after that game against Argentina in 98... And than he won against Argentina in 2002... David Beckham was certainlly one of the best players I've ever seen, and this was certainlly the most beautifull free kick goal.
Say what you like about him but i think that has to be one of the best individual performances by a player in a match, he was the only player on the pitch that seemed to want to win. He must have covered every blade of grass in this match, by far the best he has ever played for england.
To irl wilson...what the commentator said was "Give that man a knighthood"....A knighthood in UK means a person can add the title "Sir" or "Dame" to their name.
One of the greatest memories of my life. The way that the camera was shaking when he was celebrating shows that even the camera man was going nuts! Miss him so much in the England team, despite all the off-the-pitch lifestyle the guy was an amazing player and will always be in my greatest ever England 11. Cheers Dave, the whole of England loves you : )
That was one of the most amazing moments of my life, every single time i watch it, i blush like crazy. It meant so much to each and every England fan. 'Give that man a knighthood' says it all.
i can still remember stilling in front of the telly, all of us starting to get annoyed with England for letting it slip away........ and then the free kick, a moment of hope, but he had missed a few before, then with one genuis of a stroke, that commentary, "I don'tt believe it", that celebration, a goal on his own ground in front of many of this own supporters, the country united. Oh what a feeling, if I close my eyes I can still feel the euphoria
Fark, its so unlucky u injured yourself :( hope you are well soon and mayb a miracle will help your leg heal before the world cup just like this freekick
lol i remember watching this with fan zone commentary and the england fan as expected went absolutely nuts he was screaming at the top of his vioce going YEEEEEEEEESSSSS!!!! lol
This guy gets a lot of bad publicity due to his non-football career, yet the guy has given 100% for club and country all his playing career.. those overpaid prima-donna's of today can learn from this guy. Class act.
And to think two years from this point, Greece would win a major championship yet England's greatest achievement since then has been to beat Slovenia 1-0 in the World Cup. Sad times
WOW! This goal makes me blush so bad, the timing of the goal couldn't have been better, also the way he strikes the ball is amazing - imagine how much pressure he is under.
@canihaveusername He didn't quit, he playes for LA Galaxy but went out on loan to AC Milan and he got injured last season, he will play for LA Galaxy again this season.
They still haven't given him a knighthood
I get goosebumps every time i watch this.

heskey clearly did everything there
Beckham definitely needs a knighthood after that goal
The goalie doesn't even move, he don't know what's hit him.
Respect from a Greek.

Celebrating in front of the Stretford End at Old Trafford, where he belongs.
the ball left his foot travelling at 36 m/s.... the goal was only 27m away LOL

He should've let Heskey take it, but you've got to hand to it to him. What a moment.
To irl wilson...what the commentator said was "Give that man a knighthood"....A knighthood in UK means a person can add the title "Sir" or "Dame" to their name.
Wasn't much of a foul to give away a free kick was it.... however.... being English....GREAT DECISION REF!!!
One of the best free kicks i have ever seen ! Brilliant
Favourite goal off all time. No one strikes a dead ball like him,
I'm from Greece but I have to give him credit for that goal!!!

Heskey ;)
against finland OOOOOO OOOO

Shame about the commentary - the genuine live John Motson/Trevor Brooking commentary that goes with this goal is so much better!
did anyone notice he had his eyes closed, shoelaces tied together and his shorts pulled down?? proves how good he is
Thank you God For Send Beckham
I got goosebumps
