In my earlier years I started in the 1970s as an apprentice at 16 and have done a lot of this to Ford Granada, Cortina, Escort, Sierra, Mercedes, Jaguar and larger Vans. I know how massively loud chiselling spot welds is. In the early days I remember there was little health and safety concerns so you should be wearing ear defenders so that you don't get damaged hearing like I have now.

Not in the States, here it's about profit and turn around time, fastest and cheapest as possible. Fck the customer! Had it happen to me, a brand new 2020 Passport with 13k miles got rear ended, took it to Body shop IN a Honda dealership and not only they botched the job they added more damage to the vehicle, you'd think 13 year olds did the job by watching RUclips videos. I wish I could sue them. Now another Body shop is going to FIX their botched job.

The damage was extensive but my insurance insisted it be repaired. Once I finally got it back I immediately traded it in.

Not in the States, here it's about profit and turn around time, fastest and cheapest as possible. Fck the customer! Had it happen to me, a brand new 2020 Passport with 13k miles got rear ended, took it to Body shop IN a Honda dealership and not only they botched the job they added more damage to the vehicle, you'd think 13 year olds did the job by watching RUclips videos. I wish I could sue them. Now another Body shop is going to FIX their botched job.

I can see why Tesla went with die casting the front and rear support structures. These Toyota assemblies have dozens of pieces and assembling them has to be expensive. I'm not sure I'd want to own and drive a car that had been subjected to this much damage repair. Way back in the day a new car I owned was T-Boned by a pickup truck. The damage was extensive but my insurance insisted it be repaired. Once I finally got it back I immediately traded it in.
