- I found an easy way to tint the transparencies on a scale model. in this video I am going to show you how.
Tinting windows is a difficult task on scale models. On cars especially it brings a lot in terms pf realism when done properly. So that's why I think this is a very important "discovery".

I was about to give up trying to find a solution for a realistic tint as every tutorial I saw was just for smoke tint. Stumbled across this video a few weeks ago and ordered the Sakura pens. I finally got around to trying it yesterday and the results are absolutely amazing. Thank you!!
Happy to help!
@@MMScaleModelsHey this is TicTac from the above comment. Created this account for my scale modeling stuff. I recorded the entire build that my comment referenced and gave a shout out to this video. Just wanted to say thanks again, really helped me nail the look I was going for. 🤘
Ahhh! Results look good! Awesome, thanks!
Thank you! Cheers!
Didn't know about this. The end result looks very smooth and subtle. Excellent little video, Metodi.
Thank you! Cheers!
Good afternoon!!!
I can't comment, because the Porsche is one of the cars I like the most.
Congrats on the assembly.
It is my fav bar none :)
Perfect for the TSR-2 canopy that I’ll need to do soon 👍🏼
Thanks,
Ian
You are welcome 👍
Thanks for this tip! Low cost, with beautiful results!
Yeah, I am very happy with the results
@@MMScaleModels and you want to help other people to also be happy, by sharing your tips. That's very kind and very important.
Thanks for sharing this. Looking forward to giving it a try myself for armour glass viewports.
Have fun 👍
Wow, what a fantastic idea! My F-16's are going to look so much better now!
Glad I could help!
Those thin pens may also be used to outline canopies, add shadow detail to small wires and the sort. In America you can get those markers in different sizes at Michaels and other art stores.
There is quite some surface tension on the clear plastic with mine. Probably different formula.
@@MMScaleModels I also use those pens on things like wheels where the whell meets the tires....but yea, you have to draw a bit and smear it with your finger to get it feathered. If you wait too long it's not going to smear.
Great technique. It is my go to technique for heat staining!
I will give it a try
Yes, this works great! I just tried it.. spray the metallics down and the fine tip you can easily tint each panel or part of the exhaust without masking it. Thanks!
Awesome tip!
Thanks!
Great Tip! Thanks
You are welcome 👍
Very interesting. Im surely going to try this.
I hope this works for you
Awesome trick!
Glad you liked it
I've done the same thing with thinning enamel paint. Then spraying it on with my Airbrush. But it is really tricky. And there is no correcting mistakes. This looks way easier.
Yeah, I've done the same with laquer s and then polishing but as you pointed out its tricky at best
Thank you so much for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Dear Mr MM,
What an outstanding video- I am going to try this out somewhere!
Regards,
Z
Thanks mate, hope it works for you 👍
Thanks for the tip. I tried different colours and it worked great.
Glad it worked for you. Did you use the same brand or something else?
@@MMScaleModels They were Sakura brand. Pigma Micron
*An easy trick, and cheap one! The pencil can also be use for many kits, very interesting!*
Yes but nost importantly gives very subtle and realistic result
Thank you for sharing this tip. I'm looking forward to trying it first on a HUD then more.
If you’re doing a hud,, the holographic film they use in nail salons is perfect!
David demonstrates it in this video at the 19 minute 30 seconds mark…. ruclips.net/video/Nd8rPN_9v-k/видео.html
it’s readily available from a certain online auction site, and is very cheap too 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Interesting tip, I will give that a try. Thanks for sharing, have a great day.

Thanks for stopping by, have a good day yourself 👍
Thank you :)
You're welcome!
Дааа супер я тоже эту технологию использую👍
Great 👍
It's cool.😀👍
Thanks!
Good job🎉
Thanks 😁
Great technique.I wonder how it would work on chrome (like on big rig models) to tone the bright chrome down and make it look more real?
Worth the test IMO
Brilliant idea..
How do you get your clear parts so beautifully crisp and shiny?
I don't touch them... came crisp from the bags I just have to keep them that way :)
Clean gloves.
Somehow, if you even touch them with bare hands, fingerprints appear as if by some dark magic.
Airbrushing highly thinned Tamiya clear paints gives amazing results for tinting canopies and windshields etc
It does work, gowever it seems to attract all the dust in the universe. Also surface tension on untreated plastic can play a number :)
airbrush and tamiya clear paints are much more expensive than a simple marker pen dont you agree?
This is pretty cool! How did you come up with such idea?
By accident, trying to clean it up from a test piece :)
Nice! That's true way of art :)
Like Bob Ross: a "happy little accident." 😂
been using sharpie for this for a long time, as long as it's a permanent marker it should work
FYI, CD markers do not work. Stay permanently where applied.
Do you use waterbased marker or permanent marker?
I am not 100% certain, probably permanent but it does not say so anywhere. It does not say if it is waterbased either.
Can you please make a video on tamiya ki 84 hayate 1/48?😊
One day I may get this kit :)
@@MMScaleModels thank you 😀

Да
I guess that my eyes are not good enough to see the subtle difference in tinting?? It's a good idea though 👍👍👍
It is very subtle
is it just me, but I can barely see any tinting at all.
I didn't see any 'Tinting' either.
In real life it look a lot similar…
The blue background made it hard but it can be seen on the car rear window glass in the last part.
That's the point it needs to be subtle..
