Some of our local modelers have been using BSI (Bob Smith Industries) Super-Gold+ CA (Black colored cap) for installing clear parts and it does not fog or frost the clear parts.
Thank you for taking the time to share such a valuable tip with us all. I am 45 years old and I am just getting into the hobby. I have found your views of this hobby to be very positive.....yet no nonsense as well and that is very refreshing to me. You have shown to be a man of values and integrity and that should never be viewed by others as a bad thing!! You go out of your way to grow the hobby and give it and the people who enjoy it the respect it deserves. I am an army desert storm combat veteran and I value integrity and commitment! You and this channel represent that philosophy in spades! I am now subscribed to you and look forward to growing as a modeler with you and the other quality individuals in this community! Take care don and thank you for everything you do for us and the hobby!

Don, thank you so much all these years I've used clear window glue and now I see how you glue in your windows. Wow !!! You learn something new everyday. Gracias amigo!👊✌
This is the most comprehensive video I have found as regards attaching clear parts - even how to fix screw ups. Thank you Don, I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to catching up on all of your videos. Happy New Year and Good Health!!
Thank you for the tip enjoy your videos I just started and my first model car is going to be a MPC kit 1978 Dodge Monaco California Highway Patrol I figured a black and white paint job would be easy for my first time
i found it helpful to mask all window/ body mating surfaces because after two coats of prime two coats of color and then a clear coat or three, the glass doesnt sit right. Especially on glass that os dropped in from outside
Not sure where to take this but I'll give it a go here. I just subscribed. I'm getting back into modeling for fun after nearly 50 years so I'm old enough to realize I don't know jack squat. I bought a cheap open box Revell 57 Chevy hardtop kit to practice on. Seller said he had all the parts and did minor work on it and there was nothing ruined. All true except the windshield had already been glued to the body before any paint or other work. I want to remove the windshield to facilitate painting and such. It's being held by two spots on the inside of the roof which appear to be from the regular old tube of Testors glue. Two other spots have already given way so it gives me hope the windshield can be removed without cracking it or the roof. Can you give some tips how to safely remove the windshield? Thanks and I appreciate the crankiness.
I jut watched a video of yours from 2017 talking about paying for your channel, and help, if I understand that correctly. I don't have a problem with it. I was just asking a question about the hobby. I mean no offense or insult or anything and I certainly didn't realize it's a touchy subject. I'm just a guy trying to get by during quarantines and lockdowns and other crap. Thanks for your time.
Try this .... Take a 1 gallon freezer bag fill it with water , place the body inside , zip it closed , put it in the freezer . More often than not , when the body freezes solid , it will pop the glue joints without damaging the body . Let it thaw , and then have at it ! As for crankiness , welcome to the modeling world ! Lmao ! Check out our Patreon channel , $4 a week for a new video each week . We also have how to DVDs on airbrushing , tips and tricks , and achieving an outstanding paint finish . Welcome back to the hobby !
I'm surprised to hear you say that the windows can be popped out with a finger. I thought that the Bondene/Same Stuff/Tamiya and the like BONDED the plastic. That's why I rarely use Cyanoacrylate - because it doesn't bond at all. As a matter of fact, I tested the strength by gluing a tube to a flash sheet and seeing how much pressure it would take to remove after it cured for a couple days. The tube came off, but it left material from the tube on the sheet, not a clean break at all. I've actually had the Bondene type bonders do fine THROUGH a layer of paint and primer and bond just fine.
I would like to see a video timeline where you do a complete car build and see your techniques. I am very visual. If you have a video already like that ?
Excellent video... any advise on how to tint clear window for the more modern cars.. I found videos and on fb that you can add a few drops of smoke and clear yellow to specific brand thinners and dip the clearpart. They also use pledge revive it which we don't have in my country for the first dip prior the Thinner mixed tint. More dips to darken the tint. So my question is how would you do it and with what ? Thank you and I'm enjoying your videos - still have a lot to come and work through. Cheers
If I may ask you to write in a reply the name of your go to model glue and the glue that you used on the glass and do you still use your glass glue if the glass doesn’t have a mount like the car you used in your video? Thank you very much sir.
A great tip! I've generally used PVA glue for gluing in glazing on model cars, and found it quite messy. I wonder if Tamiya extra thin cement would work as well as the Plastruct Bondene. Perhaps something to experiment with as I find PVA quite messy... I've subscribed as well!
i guess im asking the wrong place but does anyone know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I was dumb lost the login password. I would love any help you can give me
@Harry Louie Thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I am going to start my first airbrush paint adventure on a 1/25 scale 59' chevy impala hardtop. Turquoise on roof and trunk area, gloss white on bottom section. Should I mask and paint each section separately or paint all white then mask and paint turquoise?
@@ScaleModelTechniques Thank you for the quick reply. I am also going to use your tip I got from your Art of Airbrushing CD and use the Model Masters Metalizer to prime for the first time.
Al Olivarez If you are using standard colors and have prepped up to 12000, there is no need for the metallizer . Shoot standard colors onto the bare plastic .
Cant find testors enamel topcoat anywhere, everywhere I look they're out of stock. All I can find is clear coat lacquer. What else, if not enamel clear, is a good clear coat over enamel?
Hey boss I don't mean to bother you but i have a question . What is your go to paint brand for airbrushing? I want a bright orange for my 41 Willy's just not sure what brand to use.
I know that you use Novus polish (pronounced no - vus as in Nova) No = long o sound - not an ah sound as in novice. This is plastic polish. I use wet sanding papers to polish my plastic. I have foam sanding pads. I polish all the way up to 12000 grit to remove scratches. I glue with 3-M glue around my window frames. No hazy white crazing from superglue or fingerprints or mess. I use a tiny brush to apply my glue with. Spray your adhesive onto aluminum foil then run your brush through it and apply it to the window frame. Then you can apply your windows against it. The glue comes off with mineral spirits and no damage done!
+Jay Hancock Lol ! Jake split the video , Jay . We did a double , the next one will be on decal placement . Jake will tell you that I have plenty of unfinished thoughts , he call it Halfheimers .....
I can only do so much when we plan stuff out and some people don't stick to the plan...I'm going to start bringing a bamboo stick and smacking him on the head lmao - Jake

this was awesome, because if I was a criminal all they need to do is go to my model windows to get my finger prints
Don, it would be great if you would list the products you use. Excellent video.
Plastruct Bondene Styrene and ABS plastic solvent cement is the first one mentioned the one with capillary action. Agree, hard to decipher.
Novus 2 Plastic Protection is what Don is using around 4:00
And Don's go-to at 1:38 is BSI Bob Smith Insta-Cure super glue
If there's one thing that'll make me punch holes in walls it's these BLOODY GLASS PIECES!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!!
What you do is simply amazing, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge

Very nice trick with the baby oil.
You should put links to the products you mentioned in the description so we can order.. Or even know what you are talking about? 😊
I noticed that the white-labeled bottle of glue that he is using is called, Plastruct Bondene Styrene & ABS Plastic Solvent Cement.

Great tip Don. Thanks for sharing

Goid tutorial. I use weld-bond glue. Dries almost invisible. Use on windows and headlights. Taillights too.
If I may ask you to write in a reply the name of your go to model glue and the glue that you used on the glass and do you still use your glass glue if the glass doesn’t have a mount like the car you used in your video? Thank you very much sir.
Do those Micro brushes have a cotton end? I found some on Amazon for applying mascara. Would they be the same as what you are using?
Love your page old man I’ve learned so much
Thanks Don for the tips.
Which glue do you use for Windows? .. I use gel superglue but it fogs up..
Wood glue in any disguise be it "cristal kleer" or "pva glue"...
Is the Plastruct the same as Tamiya extra thin?
+smurphy1977 I am not sure ... To hazard a guess , they would be very similar in nature .
Thank you. Very helpful.

Coming in late on this, but I was wondering if the Bare Metal Foil has any effect to the adhesion of the Plastistruct Cement? Thanks.

Hmm, I just clicked that link and they are indeed dental brushes lmao. I think that is what he uses, I'll find out-Jake
www.micromark.com/Microbrushes - he uses the ultrafine size-Jake
Amazon has them., This one size and they have other sizes. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QWDZ3GU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Scale Model Techniques Thanks
The Same Stuff applicator is a good alternative - also can be gotten at Micromark.
What is Novestu (sp?)? Sort of polishing compound?
Novus 2 is a medium based polish . Available through MicroMark , or local hobby shops .
@@ScaleModelTechniques Thank you 😊
Just a very late heads up. Search on Amazon for "Eyelash Micro-Brushes". It's just another repurposed make-up applicator.
Thanks for the great to Don
Why is it that so much work going into a kit and the roof inside with ejector pin marks are not sanded out and the roof inside not painted ?
Simply because it was a slot car body ….

u could of added a link
