I’m researching for my trip next week and every video is full of Danes giving good advice and enjoying people experiencing their cities. I’m excited to see this beautiful country.
Go to Juno the Bakery for kardemommesnurrer which is one of the best pasteries, much better than the kanelsnegl in this video. Go to Cafe Halvvejen for really good, traditional smørrebrød (open- faced sandwiches) at great prices or go to Aamanns for a more modern interpretation. You can't go wrong with either. If you go to the Gasoline Grill for burgers, the cheeseburger is the superior burger. For beer go to Fermentoren, which is close to the central station or Bootleggers across from Torvehallerne. In Østerbro Kompasset is the best place for beer and if you venture out to Nørrebro, Ølbaren in Elmegade is great. On your way you can stop by Slurp Ramen, which is simply amazing. Their veggie ramen is crazy good as is their other options. Hope you'll enjoy the city!
Thank you 🙏 we really enjoy our time in Copenhagen, it’s such a beautiful city to visit and we so glad we came here. We will return in summer for sure….👌
Thank you so much for your kind thoughts on visiting Copenhagen ♥ I feel a bit strange strange about saying this, but it makes me proud that you like smørrebrød, which should ofc be the "official danish food" - Not stegt flæsk med persillesovs 😄 Also, the roller coaster, makes me wanna have another ride, thanks for injecting that feeling!
as a danish person im really glad u guys liked our things. u guys defently chose the best things, and denmark is also 1 of the most expensive countrys in europe.☺☺
5:30 a notice here is, you probably not find 2 that are exactly the same, its up to the Smørrebrødsjomfru (Sandwich Maiden), there are as many ways to make the meatball as to the toppings so endless. We (danes) will eat smørrebrød with a fork and knife, but your typical smørrebrød for launch or a quick bite, will be rye bread, butter, a meat and maybe a condiment, sauce or vegie, but the key is you can eat it with one hand.
And not called smorrebrod, but handmadder! Often 3 daily, and you cant pick your favorite. It's 3 on a plate.Or in a box. The kitchen maid decides which. Often traditional though. What the outdoor workers wants. Indoor workers mostly bring their own from home. Normally one fish, one meat and one cheese or eggs.
Tivoli Food Halls is a special place in my mind. Usually tourist traps is defined by bad food at high prices, whereas the food at all the stalls in that place generally of high quality. But thats why 9 out of 10 customers in that place is foreigners, since no dane would pay their insane pricing.
At my work 2 smørrebrød is so damn popular that the lady in the cantina cant keep up - its the one with a crispy fish and remoulade (a mayonnaise with small relish pieces and a touch of curry) on top, and the one with boiled egg, mayonnaise and small but plenty shrimps ❤ MMmh im getting hungry now
Frikadeller is usually made from veal & pork, not beef. Tivoli is the 3rd oldest in the world, Bakken ( 20 min. outside CPH) is number 1 from 1583 & 2nd oldest is in Austria 1825, if i'm not mistaken. Hope you enjoyed your time here, all the best from DK ❤
Frikadeller is defo a solid choice if you wanna go traditionel danish smørrebrød. All tho my favorite is the the leverpostej/liver-pate, which isn't so scary as the name suggests, if you don't like anything made from innards. The spices in leverpostej are mostly perfectly balanced and adding pickled beetroot, onions and even thinly sliced "corned beef" makes this a really nice dish. Give it a try if you're still around Denmark or maybe next time if you're up for a return trip ;-)
Kanelsnegl translates to cinnamon snail. there's also a romsnegl, which is the same pastry, but the glaze is made with rum essence and topped with sprinkles
Kanelsnegl = Cinnamonsnail The park were you saw the duck in the "lake" are the remains of the old moat around Copenhagen. The same goes for the lakes in Tivoli.
Regarding Danish pastries. You said it yourself, would be nice with coffee. That´s one of the reasons Danes are amongst the most coffee drinking people on earth. We have a cup of coffee with our pastries. That is the perfect match. If you go to Tivoli I can recommend buying the pass for all rides. If you want to try two rides or more, it pays off.
It isn't a river, it is the former harbor in Copenhagen and so clean water that at several places we have official bathing facilities! Today the industrial harbor has moved to the north. By that we have an artificial Ski Hill on top of an incinerator Plant! And you should be able to find an "Irish Pub" also.
as a dane i have to say 52 kroner for a crossaint with filling is absolutely insane. and i even live in copenhagen. i never had it though, looked good but too expensive.
Copenhagen is a fantastic city where they make tourists pay far too much for food and everything else. Tourist trap. One of the most expensive cities in the nation. Nice video
for Tivoli doing individual tickets really doesn't pay off, the pass pays for itself once you go 2+ of the bigger rides like that rollercoaster, it's very expensive to buy individual tickets.
Tivoli is an amusement park, but from the beginning in 1843 not with rides, which came much later. good selection, the pistaccio croissants is definatly a copenhagen thing just for the record. the smorrebrod with danish meatball was a solid pick, too. another good variant is the one with a fish fillette and shrimps
@@GoTimeTravels Pickled herring it the perfect smørrebrød because you have the umami and richness of the herring combined with the salt, sugar and acid from the brine. You eat Smørrebrød (the big kinds) with knife and fork - for a quick lunch we have Håndmad (hand food), without all the toppings, that's eaten with your hand.
Deffinetly come back in the summer. We usually have a long vacation period during the summer here in denmark and yes people tend to go a little crazy during it in a nice way. The sun just makes you so happy when its been gone for so long.
The more traditional pieces of smørrebrød have got names. Someone already mentioned The Vets Nightdish (Dyrlægens Natmad). Rye with liverpate, salt meat and meat jelly. Typically topped with watercress and red onion. The salt meat is probably a danish thing, the meat jelly (kraftsky) certainly is. Another one is Sun Above Gudhjem (Sol Over Gudhjem). Actuelly, "Bakken" in klampenborg is the oldest amusmentpark in the world, not Tivoli, but you were right with Walt disney. He var inspired by Tivoli 😊 greetings from denmark 🇩🇰
You should have tried something else but the insta friendly food. Ex our Beef sandwich with brown gravy, "Shootingstar" (stjerneskud) or our national dish Fried pork belly with parsley sauce, white potatoes and pickled veggies.
Many bakeries are making onsdagssnegle on Wednesdays. They are extra large and sold at a (usually) good price. Many people like pastries in the weekend or leading up to weekend. So why not try to sell some snailbreads on Wednesdays. It's good business!
You should try some of the "real" danish meals when there. Try a hotdog with everything (remoulade, mustard, ketchup, fried and fresh onions and pickles), bøfsandwich with sauce and Cocio drink, Stegt flæsk with persille sauce for some "real" danish meals. The food in and around Tivoli is very expensive, just so you know. Prices are more fair other places.
On Wednesday they have Wendsdaysnails which large versions of what you by at the start but made from soft dough instead of the crunchy pastry dough those are quite popular :P Tivoli is also known as the old Garden by reason of it's decor :) And it is the third oldest amusement park in the world.
Danish summer is literally the best. Parks and streets are filled with joy, cold beers, swimming in the canals, big festivals... and i'll ensure you that all danes can agree :D
Tivoli is not the second oldest Amusement Park in the world, but the third oldest from 1843 as You said! Prater Wien or Wienre Prater opened to public 1766 as the second oldest Amusement Park in the world! But we do have the oldest Amusement Park in Denmark too, Bakken from 1583 as the worlds oldest Park! So we have two out of the three oldest Amusement Parks in the world!!! Kind regards the Danish Viking
If you ever think about going back to denmark and try smørrebrød, you should really try the leverpostej, especially with bacon, pickled redbeats, a little bit of watercress, its really delicious. Also a pastry thats really popular is kardemomme snurre. Its also really good. And im happy you liked the tuborg Classic, its one of the most preferred danish beers by us locals☺️💚🤍🧡
@@GoTimeTravels It was originally built for the Baltic Exposition in Malmo 1914, which was abrupt any the WW1 and closed. In the 20s the whole roller coaster was taken down and moved over to Tivoli. It was the first one I rode on at 3, oil the early sixties, after taken the boat from my hometown Malmo. No, not alone.
I remember the many times my family and I went to Tivoli. A little background story, back in the 1840's a lot of things happened, and it's in one of the documentaries said to be one of the most turbulent decades in the Danish history. The founder of Tivoli, Georg Carstensen, said; "People don't think of politics, when they are having fun", though it was at the same time when more Danes back then began to discuss politics. Back to our time, the many times my family have been to this amusement park, we started to walk around first, then try to find a place to eat, and once we were finshed with the meal, the first amusement we tried, was the flying suitcase. Named after one of the many fairytales of Hans Christian Andersen. The carriages have the shape and form of a suitcase, and the ride itself is nice and slow. A little "uphill" turn to one side to see one illustration of a fairytale, turn to the other side afterwards. In some cases there is three sceneries, from one fairytale. I find it fun to see how many of the fairytales I know. You will get to see sceneries, illustrations from fairytales like "The Tinderbox", "The little Mermaid", "The snowqueen", "The brave tinsoldier", "The pigguardian boy", "The ugly Duckling" and many, many more. Towards the end of the ride, you will be reminded of one of Hans Christian Andersen's famous quotes: "To travel, is to live" The yellow building, you went by, is called Thorvaldsen's Museum. The sculpture artist, Bertel Thorvaldsen, lived in the 1800s, and made many marble sculptures, reliefs, and portrait busts during his life. -He wasn't alone about it, though. And the artist spend 4 decades, 40 years in Rome. Though inspite he was there for so long, he never learned Italien.
Fun fact. (From a Dane who lived in Cork, Blanchardstown, Santry and Dublin centre.) Tivoli has 14 gardeners employed full time all year round. And 5 florists. If you work in Tivoli, in a customer facing role, you don't go to a job interview first. You actually audition, before getting to the interviews.
Not necessarily. Depends on position. I worked as a waiter I Restaurant Nimb. They advertised in Sweden.I made a call, went to interview and was hired the spot
Food looks great! we call those type of Sandos open faced when they are not full sandwiches. You had me at pistachio croissant, lol. Wow yum. I am putting burka on my google maps list for Denmark someday. That cream 😢 was that guy standing up on the coaster?! Cool fact about Disney big fan of Disney. Is Copenhagen the city with the little mermaid? Great coasters, food and fun! Slainte 🍻
Maybe already mentioned But the oldest theme park in the world is also in Copenhagen , a place callled Bakken, just outside the city in a suburb called klampenborg, opened in 1583.
It isn't the kind of Park which is also Tivoli. But it is on the edge of a deer park and a large open area, but also with a fine open Wooden Rollercoaster, a little more "scary" than the one in Tivoli. By that, it has no Entrance Fee to the Area.
@@finncarlbomholtsrensen1188 Rigth with a little double bump in the middle, the second of which is unexpected the first time and lift you two feet. Hold on to the rail.
Good video, don't listen to all the "tourist trap" people and its called this and that, without a danish guide, how would you know. The cake and the rye bread was the most authentic. Yes they were quite expensive and yes you could buy them cheaper when not in the middle of Copenhagen, but thats where tourists will tend to visit. Alot of people have year round pass cards for Tivoli, so they can enjoy the park as it is beautiful. They do decorations for the seasons, Christmas, Halloween aso. The rye bread dish is called, as you said, smørrebrød, which just translates into bread with spread. A lot of people eat it daily in a less decorative fashion, also refered to has "hand foods", because they are easier to eat without a knife and fork. The rye bread is great for your stomach and keeps you full longer than white bread. Theres a lot of "traditional" versions, not one is the true one, theres liverpate, meatball, fish fillet, fish meatball, and many many more. In fact, you can buy a whole case of different ones, or whichever you want from a lot of butchers and caterers for when you get lunch guests. Theres also the large version which is simply called "high coated" because it stacked taller with ingredients. We also have some traditional lunches where this is served for easter (lunch) or Christmas lunch, but here you tend to assemble them yourself at the table with ingredients that are dependent on the season. If you wanna visit again you can pm for more info about danish stuff.
thank you so much, we found your comment extremely helpful. We have recieved alot of comments about our choices in Copenhagen but unfortunelty for us we only booked 3 days so we didnt have a huge amount of time to explore other parts, and as you said when you dont know the city like us, we end up visiting popular places. Our mistake was booking too short a trip especially now that we loved our visit and wish it was longer :-) but we will return again for sure...thank you for your comment 🙏
@GoTimeTravels Its great to get an outside perspective of ones culture, you approached it so positively. I just realized how much I blabbed about smørrebrød lol. I've never really been a tourist in my own country, so I'm not even sure what the most exciting parts would be. I think you did pretty great on a first go. Welcome back anytime!
Also, if you're picking Copenhagen first, then it's much more expensive, over there compared to the rest of the country. As a smaller country, we got a huuuge wage comparrison, from the East to the West coast. Those beers are easily 4.6€ to 7.3€ mainly on the Jutland part of the country :) .
IM glad u like the food here and tivoli, next time you should try stegt flæsk med persille sovs =roast pork with parsley sauce, its also new danish potato
I am Danish so thanks for your video. If you want to come here again chose late/mid August. At that time it is less crowdy but the weather is still nice (usually). Next time try the danish hotdog. Try some microbreweries. And perhaps our national dish: "Stegt flæsk med persillesovs". Yes you have to google it. It is often served ad libitum so you can eat until you explode.
You did it just right with the smørrebrød. The trick is to get a bit of everything in one bite. Most versions have evolved over centuries, and the ingredients are meant to compliment eachother in flavor, texture and smell. The luxurious edition you got, is not what people usually make, when they prepare the every day smørrebrød at home. It’s a less “ornamented” version, that can be eaten without the cutlery. Depending on your definition of “amusement park”, Tivoli Gardens is “only” the 3rd oldest amusement park in the world. The oldest is also in Copenhagen. Situated north of Copenhagen in Klampenborg. “Dyrehavsbakken” (“Bakken”). Est. 1583. 2nd oldest is “Wurstelprater” in Austria. Est. 1766. Tivoli was built around 30 years after the french revolution. Social unrest were widespread through Europe, and an argument for building it was “people are less likely to revolt, when they’re entertained”. Walt Disney was heavily influenced by it, when he was planning of building his own in Anaheim, California in 1955.
if u visit denmark again u should try our national dish. stegt flæsk med persillesove, or translated pork belly with parsley gravy. but nice to see that u liked denmark. and funny enough every time i see at video with people. coming to denmark. they always say at the end, how much they where surprised, about how much they liked the country.
Oh yes please come back during the summer, maybe for the Jazz Festival. We really are a different people then. And then explore the rest of the city. I was actually shocked at how expensive things were in your video. Obviously Danes have higher wages than most people, but wow. In the "bro" areas, you will find authentic bodegas and smørrebrød at a completely different price level. Bro means cobbled in Danish and the bro areas are the districts that were built after 1857, when the fortifications were given up and cobbled streets were established.
You definetely get the right smørrebrød, frikadelle, is a stable in danish cusine. And it's just a meatball, but served on ryebread with the toppings, it's quite nice. You won't find a dane that will reject a piece of smørrebrød.
Nice video, instead for city centrum, you should go too places not so far away from centrum, 5 to 10 min. walks, Vesterbro, Nørrebro, when you will see low prices, and there are small lokals pups/ bar, beer cost around 20 or 25 dkk. and your will enjoy the lokal people and have fun. There are so many good restaurants to a very low prices, and the food is very high class. I like your have fun here in Copenhagen.
If you ever wanna try something unique, go to Legoland in Billund, it's quite the experience, mostly for families n stuff, but i bet y'all could get a fun day out of it or at least a couple of hours :) Me and the fam went there when I was a kid so many times, still enjoying it to this day :)
As a Dane I am SO pleased you guys had a good experience tasting our different foods ☺ Cheers from Denmark, mateys! 🍻

10.40 the only garden that has older woodenrollercoaster is bakken no more than 50 miles from tivoli!
Many bakeries are making onsdagssnegle on Wednesdays. They are extra large and sold at a (usually) good price. Many people like pastries in the weekend or leading up to weekend. So why not try to sell some snailbreads on Wednesdays. It's good business!
You got on the right rollercoaster - to me, it's still the best one. You don't need loops and stuff, just the ffeling in the stomach on those dips.
Very true
I grew up with it.
As a Dane, I'm so embarassed over the prices in Tivoli. Absolutely outrageous.
You guys are wonderful ❤ I hope you had a good time here in Denmark ☺
Thank you! 😃 we had such a great time 🤩
On Wednesday they have Wendsdaysnails which large versions of what you by at the start but made from soft dough instead of the crunchy pastry dough those are quite popular :P
Tivoli is also known as the old Garden by reason of it's decor :) And it is the third oldest amusement park in the world.
Thanks so much for the information, very helpful thank you 🤩🤩🙌🙌👌👌
If you ever think about going back to denmark and try smørrebrød, you should really try the leverpostej, especially with bacon, pickled redbeats, a little bit of watercress, its really delicious.
Also a pastry thats really popular is kardemomme snurre. Its also really good.
And im happy you liked the tuborg Classic, its one of the most preferred danish beers by us locals☺️💚🤍🧡
I love how old that roller coaster is and to this day, it's still a fun ride!😊
i know right......it was so much fun :-)
@@GoTimeTravels It was originally built for the Baltic Exposition in Malmo 1914, which was abrupt any the WW1 and closed. In the 20s the whole roller coaster was taken down and moved over to Tivoli. It was the first one I rode on at 3, oil the early sixties, after taken the boat from my hometown Malmo. No, not alone.
Great video :) hope you enjoyed yourself. Greatings from Denmark.
Thank you for watching 💖 we absolutely loved our time in Denmark. We will definitely return in summer
Danish guy here i love it when people from other countrys give denmark some fame🎉😂
love and light to you both , and get back in the summertime.
fyn and jutland also have much to look at..
Towards the end of the ride, you will be reminded of one of Hans Christian Andersen's famous quotes: "To travel, is to live"
The yellow building, you went by, is called Thorvaldsen's Museum.
When in Tivoli just buy the unlimited pass if you plan on trying alot of rides. Your save money if you try more then 5 rides. (for adult that is).
Great video guys, lovely food 🎉
Thank you 😋 glad you enjoyed it 💖
Fun fact. (From a Dane who lived in Cork, Blanchardstown, Santry and Dublin centre.)
Tivoli has 14 gardeners employed full time all year round.
Unlucky with the weather but great video 😊
thanks so much, despite the weather we had a lovely time. we are Irish, so we are used to this kind of weather lol
Slainte 🍻
Buka

Really enjoyed this, very nice!
Thank you so much 💖💖💖
You guys are so wonderful. I wish I had run into you so I could buy you a beer in my hometown :)
Thank you 🙏 that would have been lovely ❤️
Great food in Denmark can be found anywhere in denmark, just not in Copenhagen.
Jeg er fra Danmark🇩🇰
Yes! There are so many variants of smørrebrød there truly is something for everyone. A popular one though, is the roastbeef one
I enjoyed this:)
Great comment (god og brugbar kommentar med gode råd uden at virke belærende. Tak!)
Proper direct translation of the cinnamon bread is cinnamon snail = Kanelsnegl.
Snail Bread = Sneglebrød. No such thing as that :)
IM glad u like the food here and tivoli, next time you should try stegt flæsk med persille sovs =roast pork with parsley sauce, its also new danish potato
i would like to see your town. And its Cinnamon Roll if you wanna order it in english. Great take please come back we love people like you.
The next time you taste Danish smørrebrød, you must ask for a vet's night food/snack!! It is too delicious...
Im from denmark
Hi 👋
the greens on top of the meatball sandwich isent coriander. its soft thyme and chives :)
Yes I think your right, we got that one wrong
try visit tivoli in december :D
at night time
You did it just right with the smørrebrød.
Walt Disney was heavily influenced by it, when he was planning of building his own in Anaheim, California in 1955.
if u visit denmark again u should try our national dish. stegt flæsk med persillesove, or translated pork belly with parsley gravy. but nice to see that u liked denmark. and funny enough every time i see at video with people. coming to denmark. they always say at the end, how much they where surprised, about how much they liked the country.
our national food is Stegt flæsk med persille sovs
fried pork belly i think it is, with a white parsley sauce and potatoes
Oh yes please come back during the summer, maybe for the Jazz Festival. We really are a different people then. And then explore the rest of the city. I was actually shocked at how expensive things were in your video. Obviously Danes have higher wages than most people, but wow. In the "bro" areas, you will find authentic bodegas and smørrebrød at a completely different price level. Bro means cobbled in Danish and the bro areas are the districts that were built after 1857, when the fortifications were given up and cobbled streets were established.
Hii i live in denmark and im so happy you visited My country
14:24 guy with glasses looks like somebody forced him to visit tivoli :'D
😂
Would highly recommend the Hotdogs near the train station. but in general we have amazing hotdogs
Thanks for the recommendation 💖 the hot dogs are so good here
tivoli is a really exphensive place to eat.....😋
It's not where the Dane working in central CPH goes for lunch. And has never been. It's an amusement park.
Danish cuisine is world reknown.
Wow 🤩
That smörebröd looks like something i want to taste
You definetely get the right smørrebrød, frikadelle, is a stable in danish cusine. And it's just a meatball, but served on ryebread with the toppings, it's quite nice.
You won't find a dane that will reject a piece of smørrebrød.
Nice video, instead for city centrum, you should go too places not so far away from centrum, 5 to 10 min. walks, Vesterbro, Nørrebro, when you will see low prices, and there are small lokals pups/ bar, beer cost around 20 or 25 dkk. and your will enjoy
the lokal people and have fun. There are so many good restaurants to a very low prices, and the food is very high class.
I like your have fun here in Copenhagen.
i am from denmark😊
Hi 👋
If you ever wanna try something unique, go to Legoland in Billund, it's quite the experience, mostly for families n stuff, but i bet y'all could get a fun day out of it or at least a couple of hours :)
Me and the fam went there when I was a kid so many times, still enjoying it to this day :)
