Rented a previous generation B-class in Germany when my in-laws came to visit over the Christmas holidays 2 years ago. We drove all over Germany and Switzerland. I was very impressed by the car. It was extremely roomy, comfortable and a great autobahn cruiser. It had the 1.5 dci Renault engine and DCT and we averaged between 4.5-5.5 l/100 km and I usually drove 150-170 kmh on the Autobahn. The only complaint was the road noise above 170 kmh. It's a fantastic little car, especially if you live in the city. I'm in my 30s but would consider getting a CPO one for my wife so that she still has plenty of room while still being able to navigate the city and find a parking spot. It's a shame that it isn't more popular.

We just got rid of our wobbly riding X1 25d M sport for an active tourer with adaptive dampers and could not agree with you more about the SUV thing, after the X1 the 220dx active tourer feels like a Golf GTD on a country road.
I got the new B class a couple of weeks ago (B200, that's the 1.3 petrol version) and...it's fine. I got it mostly because the whole FWD SUV thing is annoying at best and I needed a family car. The review outlined the most annoying things about - namely having to slam the doors and the automatic gearbox behavior at lower speeds. Of those two the gearbox still puzzles me. Who in their right mind decided the bloody thing should change gears like a maniac? Besides that, the car is spacious, comfortable, economic and if you (like me) lug two kids around and do the occasional weekend trip it's...fine I guess. It's not a thrilling car (but neither is Qashqai / Ateca / Insert random SUV thing here), but it gets the job done and you can even have a conversation with it when your wife is mad at you :)
I am sick of "thrilling" car named Qashqai. It is so uncomfortable an annoying car that I regret every cent I threw in this pail on wheels. The B-class is what I am looking at the moment, hoping that comfort of suspension is above the comfort of an ordinary go-kart car.
I feel like I'm repeating myself, but I simply have to praise your critical eye yet again! Most car journalists pretty much just repeat what the brochure says. But not you - you actually do what you're supposed to do when testing these cars - actually testing them. You used to be just behind Carwow and perhaps KBB, but you just might have climbed the top of the ladder in my oppinion. Keep it up!
3:16 I havent seen a car that basically talk anything or even having a personality... Mercedes Benz does seem to know how to implement things in a sort off charming way.
Its very true, when your handling over, a large chunk of change, especially on a Mercedes, it is disappointing to see pieces of cheep nasty plastic. Apart from this one little moan, The B-Class is an excellent choice of vehicle.
Nice review vid, Marek. Having driven a BMW Active Tourer i totally get the practicality-yet-still-drivable format and mini-SUVs are becoming too "standard" thus uninteresting. It's a shame this new B-Class has such poor quality fittings for such a high price tag.
Marek this car is a God send in a city like London. Traffic jams and lack of parking make it the ideal car. However you are right. I would not be seen dead driving it in Poland. Probably need something bigger with all that space you have out there.
A couple of weeks ago, as we were recording the RAV4 or maybe the Evoque we heard this buzzing/ringing sound. Sort of like an old school home door bell. It turned out it was a woodpecker banging on some metal element of an electricity post nearby :)
Yep, its lame with crowd 🤷🏻♂️. But could be worse than lame, could be crossover with huge wheels, offroad capabilities you'll never use, tiny windows that hinder visibility and you'll pay much more for privilege of driving less comfortable and less practical car. I'd rather enjoy driving lame, but very comfortable and more reasonably priced car.
@@slava_trushkin Visibility is actually fantastic. Almost as good as the old wagons that had almost no pillars at all. Being able to see out the back and sides, as well as the little distance lights that Mercedes use, I've never had to second guess a parking space.
Too bad the interior materials and quality are not up to even Toyota, Honda, Hyundai standard. I want to like this car, but if it’s not built to a high quality, why pay the Mercedes tax? No, the stupid high tech infotainment does not compensate for the low quality boot shelf, dash and doors. My first Mercedes was an early 1990s C class. It was a tank. Overbuilt. An actual S class, just smaller. This thing is inferior to lesser brands in every way. Mercedes has lost its way.
Why when you say "Hey Mercedes" does the text and audio not match... Kind of thing would drive me nuts "How can I help you" = How may I help you" Not the attention to detail I would expect.
@Adrian Byron-Parker I picked up another Mercedes test car yesterday, and in Polish it says something completely different to what it's displaying. Something on the lines "Yes, I'm listening" vs. "How may I help you?" displayed on the screen.
Hey, I´m a subscriber fan of your channel. But why do you convert consumption for that brexit island who want to isolate from metric world? And the bigger island far far away? Does it even sells there? No, just concentrate at the Europeans please, you doing it well.

Not possible between 4,5-5,5 for 150-170 km/h
Tbh I think it somehow has better proportions than the A-Class, I would rather have this.
I like those body type. Was surprised how previous B-class tiny outside and roomy inside.
One of the best reviews I watched! Congrats.
Glad you liked it!
@2:30 Thank You. A longish term fan who knows you should NEVER fast forward through your reviews and always check out the graphics on your shirts.
It looks as good as A class and its more practical.
Looks like good alternative to the current SUV vibe. I also don't hesitate buying traditional estate, hatchback or saloon/sedan.
I would explain that in a different way... sports tourer means that it is good to carry your equipemnt for sports and its good for those active trips

Much better then suv/cuv or such mommy cars...

we need you to compare it with the 2 Series BMW Active as i think it better Martial inside for BMW
Can't wait for the upcoming eqb likely based on same platform

I own this car, and it bottoms out on every speed bump and also hits every time I park it, and this front AMG bumper is not cheap to replace.
Very useful and entertaining review.👍
Glad you liked it!
The b-class is very popular where i live
Where is that?
Marek Drives in switzerland
“No! This is not a taxi!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hi Marek. would you recommend BMW 218/220 Active Tourer over this B Class?
Very nice car 😊
bardziej podobał mi się sens życia wg polskiego mercedesa xd
B Class (247) - B 200 d (FIS), where is the engine make and how performance with 8G DCT ?
I drove a B class for about 2 hours. The seats are extremely hard. I don’t understand why in a premium car the seats shouldn’t be comfortable.
In this model i think so,in the previous one were perfect!
Im thinking about getting this car (used) in Korea. Anyone have issues with the previous generation models? Engine, transmission, etc?
Nice review vid, Marek.

Wasn't the car invented by Karl Benz?
Yes, the others were sort of kind of right behind him :)
Wow. Good to know id like to own a taxi 😂😂

People would like to look at the back seats in car mate
i am still waiting for the first test where you will find out that mercedes is a good car

Super practical , nothing wrong with it. Except for it being lame🤷🏻♂️
With depreciation the older models are fantastic value if you find them with low mileage, and don't care that everyone thinks you are your gran.

Rigg Amore he's talking about crossovers
I thought that meaning of life is to crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear lamentation of women.
Sounds legit :)
I drive a Skoda Superb Passive lifestyle Sedan :-)

Materials and quality inside a Honda or Hyundai? Seriously? Are you drunk? Did you ever had a chance to drive these cars? Because I don't think so.
Why when you say "Hey Mercedes" does the text and audio not match... Kind of thing would drive me nuts
"How can I help you" = How may I help you"

Lol, it's something only Brit could spot. You're right. I haven't noticed it.

@@MarekDrives Hi,
Must be a German thing... I bet it will annoy you too now..
Thanks for the reviews.
Psychologically I just find 'B' means poorer. Ridiculous I know.
nice car with terrible price

most of us here in the UK didn't vote to leave the EU just a stupid minority, I apologise for the mess
