- 163. Time to face our fears and get up high.
It is amazing to think that 2 years ago we arrived at the abandoned 14th century chateau and with blood and sweat and tears we are now onto the 2nd phase of renovations. The chateau outbuildings are vast, this year we focus on the piggeries and stables which will eventually become our home. Our first step is to make them water tight and air tight. Today we work on the roof , after our friend Steve helped to build a new roof we now have to face our fears and get up onto the roof to do the haunching and finish this part of the project.

Things are moving along nicely.
Oh Lesa I really feel for you doing this. I just feel the ladder digging into your legs and knees while your trying to balance. You’re a tough cookie!
Vertigo is a terrifying fear. And you're having to try and concentrate on doing an important job at the same time. Respect!
Well done Lesa “Wonder Woman”. I’m terrified of heights. Respect.
I am so so proud of you!! Believe me, I get it! When I was 13, my fear of heights attacked me when i was walking out to jump off the top of a high diving board. I suddenly knew I had to get down and in turning to grab ahold of the hand rails I was so dizzy I missed the railing and fell to the cement below. It was totally the tender mercies of my God that preserved my life that day so many years ago! And though I live with pain every day, I'm alive, I can walk and run, carried 4 children, boys, and raised them successfully, and am able to play with our Grandchildren! I have so very much to be thankful for! But that gripping fear is so very real, bless you for conquering it and not letting it conquer you! I also know the thrill of that!!!
Mary from WallaWalla, Washington
Lesa, you are entitled to say all the bad words you can think of when you’re on the roof. You should be very proud of yourself for facing your fear of heights. ❤ Happy New Year from the heart of Texas🎉
Well done Lisa for facing your fear. But I have to confess you had me crying with laughter as Teds head was at the same hight as the gutters. Bless you, a fear is a fear and you got done what had to be done. What a star you are. Xxx
I am scared of heights too so I know just how brave you are being! congratulations on a fantastic job
CONGRATULATIONS You did it!!
These are the ones I love the most!!!! Great job you two. Inspiring. I had to conquer my fear of tight spaces when running plumbing under my house in a very tight crawlspace. I know how terrifying it can be and the sense of accomplishment when you're done. I still hate going under the house, but I know I can do it. Bravo!!!
After a lifetime of working on ladders 1 secure ladders 2 only look where you're going. 3 most importantly don't stand back to admire your work
Well done for climbing the roof ,I felt sick watching and honestly I would have got up there but I would be glued to the top and you would have had to call the fire brigade to get me down 😂😂 well done you 👏👏👏
You and me both!
Congratulations Lesa on cracking on with a job you have a fear from. A big tick for that one . Especially if heights is not your thing, so hats off to you Lesa . Happy New Year to you both Lesa and Tedxxx🪅🍾🍸🍺
Fantastic accomplishment, great admiration from someone who fears heights. Great teamwork of course.
Thank you very much!
Well done Lisa , 👏 they say if you're afraid of heights it doesn't matter if it's 3 , 6 foot or 12 foot ... up means you're afraid .. so proud if you well done x
For the last few years on our reno projects I have been saying to the husbad, "What other wife would be up on this roof painting (in my case)? What other crazy 50 plus year old woman is up doing this stuff?" Well know I now. There are a lot of 50 plus age group women doing their own reno's. I have a crazy bum knee shuffle too as I don't like to stand up. I find if I can hang on with one hand and work with the other, I am fine. Sometimes I grab a rope and tie myself to something, so if I start sliding I can stop. Next time I am on the roof I will be thinking of you Lesa. PS - I am not keen on heights either, but it does get easier. All the best.
Gurl, that's high for me too! I was a freaking mess on a zip-lining adventure my family wrangled me into!! As always, well-done Lesa and Ted!!
Major kudos to you Lesa for what you did with the tiling, I’m with you all the way. I use to climb like a monkey, not now I can’t stand heights. My heart was in my throat watching you up there💋😉👏❣️
Hello you two! You are so hard working, never stop! Watched you from the word go and very impressed with the pair of you! Happy New year love Caron xxxx
Well done, I was the same but inside, after three months of up and down two storeys scoffold I no longer have the fear!
So impressed with your work!
Lisa you are very brave for facing your fear. I feel anything higher than a bar stool I get a nosebleed lol!!!
Big respect for facing your fear. Well done. You know now that you can do it again if needed. Having the fear there is good because you will be very cautious. Which is a good thing
I am so impressed with you two! Handling heights is a huge big deal and you did it. You are courageous and constantly amazing. Big kudos to both of you. ❤️
Thank you so much!
You're an amazing team! The roof looks like a professional did the work so well done. What a gorgeous view from the rooftop.
Thank you so much!
There you two conquerors go again! Congratulations
Watched this video last night and had to comment! I too have fear of heights. I felt your fear. Well done both of you. From Arizona, USA

Well done with roofing yes it’s small person job looked awkward but looks like you have done it correctly well good on Lisa 🙋♀️👏👏👏🖖🏹
Thank you! 😊
Proud…as you should be…good job girl!! 👍🏼
Good job lesa darling xx❤
Superhero Lesa! Well done! Happy New Year to you both! 🎉🎉
AMAZING I don't know how you are doing these jobs I can't stand on a chair let alone climb a ladder. Mind you at the beginning I was hyperventilating with you 🥴🥴🥴🤣🤣🤣🤣
Well done guys. Can’t hv been easy.
Holy Moley, got to say congratulations on a job well done. That is just beautiful. So glad your area is dried in now. Bet there were some hot soaks in the tub after that one. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to seeing what you get into next.
Oh Lesa, Lesa, Lesa..... it would have been better for you if the scaffold tower had had a guard rail around the top level. I think there were some spare sections I could see. Next time at least get a panel up on the side away from the roof and also to one end then you have something to grab to steady yourself. You will feel much more secure. Builders always have a "fence" around the working level. Yup those tower trapdoors are tricky to negotiate. I find it best to go through facing the trapdoor and getting my bottom (which is well padded!) on to the planking. If you have the guard rail in place then you have something to grab whilst you get your legs around. Well done girl!
I admire you two just the way I admire Guy and Kylie of Make Do Grow and Budo and Tracy of French Farmhouse Diaries, you all are major hard workers. My hat off to you all.
Well done! You certainly got a workout this day! ❤️😊
Yes it was!
Congratulations! I empathize completely.
The roof looks so good. You got this guys :)
You guys have done so well. I hate to be someone who raises the possibility of bad news but most roofs like this would have some sort of flashing placed over the haunches to also direct the flow of rain water. I really hope the work you have don me lasts a long time. But from my experience reliance on mortar isn’t 100%. Really the best luck to you as you both work so hard.
I felt you fear, did you hear me saying, you can do it Leesa. You’re so brave.
Don't know but if it's not done by the time u read this what if you remove some tiles in front of wall to slip through and reach where you need to put cement. In tge US they use a metal flashing for those areas
What a big brave baby
I feel for you it's so much harder doing things up there balancing everything. Good job Lesa you deserve dinner
We really do hope you get through the first few months of the new year! Watching this video, we're glad we stuck our head in. You're an amazing couple that are an inspiration to everyone across the globe. Happy New Year! Mark & Mandy
It was great to meet you both, Happy New Year x
Really proud of you Lesa for doing that! RESPECT!!
Hoorah! Lesa, I'm so proud of you!!!! I'm not afraid of heights, I'm the type of gal that thinks nothing of flinging herself out of airplanes (with a parachute of course), but I'm deathly afraid of critters, i.e. bugs, spiders, birds, big dogs, horses, et al. You have really mastered two things. Your fear of heights AND yes! You became a roofer! Brava!
Cheers from North Carolina USA
Happy New Years to you both. Lesa the “Great Conquer” oh my gosh I was holding my breath! You did it! M Tucson Az
Well Done Lisa & Ted looks brilliant 👍🤗👍🤗🌹🌹🍰☕🍰☕
Happy New Year & may all your dreams come true 🍀🤗
Love Sue❤❤❤🇬🇧❤❤❤
Happy new year!!
You are brave and I do commend you as I am very afraid of heights too.
From a fellow fraidy cat on a ladder, you did good. My hands were tingling just watching you. We never know just how much we can do and achieve until we have no other choice but to do it.
Well done Lesa! I'm proud of you!
Rikki Biermann, Pretoria, South Africa 🇿🇦
Good job! I don’t think I could have done it!
Another GREAT and ENTERTAINING video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Lisa I commend you. I am terrified of heights. I worked as a roofer for a summer job when I was 17. I was OK then but I knew that wasn't for me. I became a registered nurse after that . I am now happily retired.
I wish you both a very Happy New Year and hope it is a healthy and prosperous one for us all.
You can be extremely proud of every accomplishment ! Best wishes in 2023
Bravo guys
Congratulations!! Beautiful job!
Brilliant well done
Well done Lesa and Ted.
Congratulations on your work and being on the rooftop !! Big accomplishment!
Well done you !!! Just scampering up and down the roof ladder like a Pro 👏👏👏
Thanks 😅
At 72 I'm becoming afraid of heights too. Distances that didn't seem so high at 35 look sooo much higher now. What I find helps is having something to grab onto. That scaffold wouldn't be so hard to climb and stand on if it was another bay higher. Having a railing around helps to feel steady. and I can stand up. It's very hard to stand on any staging that wobbles. I hate it. Good for you.
So proud of you! You did an amazing job! Well done!
It looks fantastic
félicitation vous êtes une guerrière !
Well done Lisa!
You did great Lisa. Wish you both a very joyful New Year
RESPECT …..❤️
One more job well done 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Well done.. I am not a great lover off heights either so totally relate...
Have a fantastic NYE and wish you guys the very best for 2023

Happy new year. I’m finding it hard to hear Lisa on these last few vlogs is anyone else?
Yous are bleedin deadly, a mighty team, even loved yiz in the tv show, every good thing your way 🙌🏼
Thank you 🙌
Well done great job done x
Omg Lesa you are so damned brave. I understand, my husband has a terrible time with heights and as I am getting older, heights are bothering me now too.
Good morning! Happy new year . May the best come your way.
Happy new year!
Well done Lesa! You go girl!!! You both did another great job!
Going up on the roof in your 20's & 30's is easy... anything over 45 & the fear & hesitation increase because you know your likelihood of breaking a hip, or other bones if you fall, is just that much greater. I leave those jobs for my kids 🤣
Very true!
@@ChateauDeMontmagner you did great but watching you lay on that ladder made my bones ache, so I took a couple Tramadol for you!! Happy New Year
BEST TO YOU
Wow Leesa! It was great seeing you learning to trust the ladder was going to keep you in place without holding the rungs constantly, since that was the only way you could really move the cement. Great job confronting your fear. Fear's are real and not always rational, I have a fear of falling (among other fears) while heights aren't my fear if I am up high and don't trust my equipment I would have a similar reaction. It was nice to see you make a bit of peace with it.
Happy new year fantastic job bless you both. Thank you for your great videos of 2022 Looking forward too 2023 video great. ❤❤
Happy new year!
Well done guys! I know that feeling as I hate heights too....but I’ve got better just by actually doing stuff at heights too......Is it just me? As once again I lost sound on the end section?
Wonder Woman!!! 💪💪👏👏👏
Well done
Well done you are brave xx❤❤
Thank you 🤗
(Moira Ashton) Lesa You are one brave Lady!!!! I could NEVER do that!!! All your vlogs are great and I wish you both a Happy New Year - much love from Spain 🇪🇸 🥰😍🤩😘💓💓💓💓💓xxxx
Good for you!
Thanks!
Great job getting an important job done while overcoming the fear of heights. Sorry we missed the Christmas market due to an archery competition in Brive - looking forward to next year.
Ted , a couple of things . ALWAYS lock the wheels and you have another cross bracer use it on the other side . I’ve worked on that type of scaffolding and it’s so much safer with atleast 2 of the diagonal braces on it .
Ok, that's me told off
@@ChateauDeMontmagner That’s not the way I meant it . I meant it as advice and I’m sorry if it came across that way . I just know that your wife would be crushed if something happened to you and vice versa !
Congratulations!
Thank you!
👍 so well done conquering your fear. I also suffer from vertigo and sympathise. I find I suffer in some situations that seem irrational but I am OK at height in other situations where I would expect to be scared very weird.
Congratulations both of you. BRAVO. Can you give me the measurements of the angle of your roof from back to front please. I have a problem with my roof which is exactly the same as yours and they tell me it should be lifted at the back ?? So at least I can compare and have second opinion. Thank you wishing you a happy new year with health and love
What a great video, we learn so many things that are required for building in a different medium. Thank you and Happy New Year. Looking forward to 2023s ideas.❣️
I'm chuffed for you! 🎉🎉🎉 Awesome work !
Thank you Tammie
