    Just another quick video showing how to replace the brake pads on a 2005 Toyota Corolla.
    Thanks for watching!

    Forgot to mention in the video: Make sure you to check the fluid level to make sure there is room in the master cylinder for the fluid that would otherwise spill if it was too full. Step on the brake pedal a few times to push the caliper piston back out. And check the fluid in the master cylinder when you are done to make sure it’s at the proper level

    Dan, You Are the Man... Ive changed brake pads before more than once or twice, I was having a sticky beak on youtube to maybe pick up a bit of a tip, seems theres always something new to learn no matter how many times you have done things before. Wonderful place youtube, thanks to people like yourself taking the time and effort to upload helpful info, Cheers Mate... I watched 4 or 5 videos on changing Toyota pads before I got to your video, gotta admit I was having a bit of a chuckle cause the others were making a 5 course meal out of quick snack, hey good on them for their efforts and Im sure they have been a great help to many a home mechanic. But yeah your way of getting the job done was bloody spot on, so Cheers once again Dan.....
    All the best and safe driving....... From Queensland, Australia.

      I agree flipping that caliper up like that on one bolt was the trick I learned . And why bother with a c-clamp in the screwdriver will do the job you're only trying on Old brake pads not new ones. Honestly I was just checking to see what kind of hardware was holding them things on that belt tension is a trick 15 mm reverse torque bolt .

    Loosen the lid on the Master Cylinder first before compressing the caliper piston!

    Wow that looked really straight forward. The pads I got have a rubber pad on the back to reduce noise, so I assume the lube is not needed there, but I did get some just to lube the ends to make sure the new pads would continue to move for the life of the pad. Well done and very informative!

    I was always told you have to lead breaks if you change them. How come I didnt see you bleed them?

    • @DantheFixitMan
      @DantheFixitMan  5 лет назад +5

      Hi Steve,
      Great question,
      If you don’t open the brake bleeder screw or any hydraulic fittings you wouldn’t need to be bleed the brakes because no air would enter the hydraulic system. Some people prefer to open the bleeder screw to let the old fluid out when compressing the caliper piston, and in that case you would need to bleed the system of any air that would have gotten in through the bleeder screw.
      Thanks for watching!

    Thanks Dan. It's been a while and I had all my memories of doing this during my brief carmax stint come rushing back. Even got an actual smile and chuckle out of me when you had to tilt the pad to get it in. I remember learning that trick and feeling like a dumb idiot for not realizing it sooner. Thanks for the help and nostalgia.

    Should have checked the brake fluid level before and after service.

    • @DantheFixitMan
      @DantheFixitMan  5 лет назад +3

      Yes, you are correct, and thank you for pointing that out. I must have missed that in this video. You should check the fluid level to make sure there is room in the master cylinder for the fluid that would otherwise spill if it was too full.. And again after it’s done to make sure it’s at the proper level.👍🏻

      Hi Ed,
      I think this video was just a quick pad change at the time because the owner didn't want to take the time to take the rotors in to be machined, or resurfaced. A lot of times, I just replace the rotors if they've got quite a few miles on them. Sometimes I will scuff them up with some sandpaper or emery cloth to get rid of that mirror glaze that gets on them, but this one wasn't too bad so I just swapped the pads.
      Thanks for watching!
      Best of luck to you!
      Take care,

    What about the piston ? Do you need to reposition it once you change out the brake pads or will it automatically go back to functioning like it should when you're finished?

    • @DantheFixitMan
      @DantheFixitMan  Год назад +1

      Hi Leah,
      Great question,
      I forgot to mention that in the video: Make sure to step on the brake pedal a few times (don't push it all the way to the floor, just about 1/2 way several times until it feels firm) which will push the caliper piston back out pressing the pads against the rotor where they need to be. And then check the fluid in the master cylinder when you are done to make sure it’s at the proper level.
      Thanks for watching!

    When you compress the piston do you need to take the top off of the brake fluid reservoir?

    • @DantheFixitMan
      @DantheFixitMan  5 лет назад

      It’s not a bad idea to take it off before compressing the caliper, but the cap is vented, so any air can escape out the top while compressing it. You should also check the fluid level to make sure there is room in the master cylinder for the fluid that would otherwise spill if it was too full.
