    I'm a Math teacher. I can assure you there is not a racist bone in Math's body. It's all logic, and anyone can use it! Sheesh! In Seattle, they stopped teaching Calculus at the end of High School because too few blacks and Hispanics could pass the pre-requisite courses. Insane!

      That's weird, I'm black and I easily passed those. Maybe those student weren't encouraged to do math? But that's just a theory.

      When decisions are made like this in education, we are all diminished. It levels the playing field in a very frightening way. This needs to stop.

      @@CringeKonorris Not everyone has the aptitude for calculus, or Math in general, and that is not race dependent. Encouragement is important but if one has no aptitude it won't make them Math proficient. You have the aptitude, great! People need to be helped to thrive in the areas in which they have the ability. Not teaching certain subjects because it is felt certain racial groups can not handle them is racist in itself. Teach calculus to everyone, those who can do it will do it, those who can't will find something else they are good at doing.

      @@CringeKonorris My comment above does not say that NO blacks or Hispanics could pass the pre-reqs for Calculus, it was that the left-wingers on the School Board in Seattle were concerned that a disproportionate few did. The reason for this is unclear, but my bet is that it is cultural, and not genetic. Asian and Jewish culture tends to encourage hard work at school. Asians are more likely to tell their kids to study harder. Jewish parents tell their kids they want them to become doctors or lawyers. But a too-large chunk of black parents tell their kids that to study hard is to sell out, or to be "trying to be white." Some other black kids criticize the smart black kids. This happens among whites as well, but just to a lesser degree. I hope you did not experience any of this, and am impressed if you rose above it. As a math teacher, I am always very happy to have kids in my class of any race. I work to encourage all kids equally. I treat them as individuals, not as members of racial or other groups.

      True those cultures do encourage education more than others so you’d be correct, sorry for the misunderstanding.

    Math is just a method to handle amounts. Math itself have no meaning, have to relate to something "physical", else it is as fantasy and philosophy. Also need to follow the definitions of math symbols and workings, else if becomes as two peoples with different languages (and no body use) tries to communicate. Have a funny thing with "math": 4 + 4 = 1 | 4 apples + 4 oranges = 1 fruit basket.

    So, as far as how maths is taught in North Korea, all we got was an anecdote of a teacher saying that one drop of water added to another drop of water creates one (single) drop of water. That was it. No more insights than that into how maths is taught there - but plenty of insights into the interviewer's worldview about anything else. What a seriously mistitled video.

    One problem may be that university lecturers go from school to college without ever having to deal with real objects. If they have to paint walls, plough fields, or dig holes, they'll see why 1+1 = 2.

      Enlighten us, inquiring minds want to know. One of the significant signs of fascist trained mentality is to post slanderous comments without citing any examples. We don't blame those who post comments like this because of the fascist school systems teaches the students of today what to think and not how to think, fail utterly in teaching correct communication skills, and they don't emphasize the correct form of writing. The last few generations have been lost because of the unfettered focus on DEI, "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" instead of what our grandparent's generation affectionately called the 3 R's. Students are getting degrees in slander, fascism, and anti-Democracy thinking while being told this toxic lack of thinking is the very foundation for Democracy. (We live in a Republic like all countries are with the exceptions of Monarchies including every Communist country)
      We are waiting, but we certainly won't hold our breath for anyone to verify with two additional sources before citing examples. The Diplomat is an ultra far Left source so any sources like the Diplomat, the Washington Examiner, and others that are far Left don't count.
      Since we are people who treat and council trauma survivers, we can and do attest to the following copy and paste from Wikipedia;
      Park attributed these discrepancies to her imperfect memory and language skills,[3][7][8] and the co-author of Park's auto-biography, Maryanne Vollers stated that Park was the victim of a North Korean smear campaign, whose timeline of recollections is inconsistent as is common among trauma survivors.
      Only time and maturity coupled with experience brings moderation and temperament to our thinking before knee jerk reactions cause us to post slanderous and ridiculous comments that require deleting upon further consideration.
      The fascist Left doesn't abide by the rules of the Court which are, "the Truth, the Whole Truth, and Nothing But the Truth" when printing partial truths which are synonymous with a Whole Lie. Truth reporters say that we found some inconsistencies in Yeonmi Park's retelling of events Which Are Consistent With Trauma Survivers. Go ahead, we are waiting but follow the aforementioned rules for response.

      Ms Park's worshippers extend two very generous concessions to her: (1) a blind faith in the veracity of whatever she says (and there's a textbook example of it in bornagainspacecadet6561's comment in this thread); and (2) an endless blank cheque of "benefit of the doubt".
      Waiting now for the usual kneejerk response that I'm a communist or a North Korean agent/sympathiser or something along those lines...
