Thats what I didn’t like about the values now actually working in races. Its good that theres different setups, but at the top top level there might be some racing tryhards with the best possible setup for each lap just for that little bit of an advantage. edit (*downforce values* best setup for each *track*)
I've found the BR8 and PR4 can actually trade wins, depending on the track. The BR8 is the best all-arounder with good acceleration and top speed. Though, the PR4 has better handling (including turn radius), a higher-capacity KERS and is easier on the tires (I've finished 10-lap races by running softs with 1 pitstop). This could just be a coincidence, but the PR4 might be slightly stronger than the BR8 as well. The BR8 can't even drive through the yellow lane dividers without losing its front wing.
Man your driving skills are off the fkn charts! I wish more people still raced these days, only the open wheel races are active these days on console.. 😢

You used the exact setup for the PR4 that I do, paintjob and everything!!! Good job on the video, thanks for perservering through the testing and I look forward to seeing more videos in the future.
I created a quick open wheel guide on Steam a few days after the new DLC got released and I should say that this video alone is already way more informative than my guide. Awesome work there!
That's a great testing video ! I've been able to try all the 4 cars in "stock" versions on open wheel races with custom cars set on off but I found the BR8 quite hard to drive, and I got the overall best performance with the PR4 so I think I'll stick to it since I'm able to win most of the time with my fully upgraded, medium DF PR4, that's up to personal preference. Your videos are always excellent, thanks to them I got the Krieger which is the 2nd best supercar of your track test and my fav one (I had a hard time driving the Emerus and ended up selling it)
I purchased the R88 when it was discounted and was lucky enough to win the PR4 off the Diamond Casino Podium! But I guess I’ll either be biting the bullet and purchase the BR8 at full price or look out for when it eventually goes on sale. What’s even more interesting is how, if you take the BR8 out of the equation, you see how well balanced all the OW cars are with the PR4 taking the slightest edge and the variation of front and rear wings offering further tweaks to performance depending on track!
I have been waiting for this video for so long but I knew for the video to be good I'll have to wait. And it was so wort it. I knew when I bought BR8 for the first time I demolished everyone in the race.
very interesting how well balanced the class seems to be, good work testing them Brough; even though i don't play the game anymore i still find your videos to be a good watch :)
m8, really I apreciate your work, its amazing! Since I started watching your channel a two years ago, you have not disappointed me. Also, you are really underrated, spacially for the amount of work you put in your vids
Great video once again and thanks so much for your wonderful work. I have both the PR4 and BR8, I find the PR4 more enjoyable to drive despite being slower than the BR8 in most tracks. The only track where lap times were better on the PR4 was 'Keeping Track'. Another thing I find with the BR8 is tyre wear - I keep burning up the soft tyres in the rear from tight turns and KERS boost.
Would you ever consider doing a video showcasing your favorite vehicles in each class? Not necessarily the best ones, just the ones you are personally fond of? For instance, my absolute favorite super car is the XA-21. It hasn't been competitive for years, but I just love the way it looks, sounds, and handles.
Nice explanations. Yeah the formula to calculate an Open Wheeler's downforce is: Front Wing value + Rear Wing value x car downforce modifier / 2 or (car downforce modifier / 2) x Front Wing value + (car downforce modifier / 2) x Rear Wing value In case anyone doesn't want to do the maths, I posted the values a while ago on Twatter.
it actually bums me out a little that the BR8 is so much faster than the others around the track, if they had relatively similar pace then the open wheel races would have som more variance based on preference. thanks a lot for your stellar work and dedication to make your speed and laptimes videos the best the y can be, they help me a lot.
Wow I didn’t realize that with open wheel cars, u got to have the right set up for each down force car, which can be very beneficial in a race. Helpful video 👍
Just started my GTA Online Career today, I f*cking love open wheel cars, I literally spent like 7 hours just driving them on my first day. Won every race I've participated in. I found my destiny.
Idk, the br8 is only faster than the pr4 cause of the straight line speed. The racing is still competitive. Plus in reality You'll have cars quicker than others. I don't think rockstar is at fault.
@@jackarmstrong7285 Since you are an actual race car driver, you know that modern cars will always become faster as engine and power technology improves.
taking every corner flat out is exactly what i bought the BR8 for lol these are essentially the only cars in the game that can do it and remain stable. you push the Emerus too hard and it spins out, you push the Krieger too hard and it goes straight into a wall. these cars are unique for taking corners that you usually have to hit the brakes for even in supercars, completely flat out
Like i said as soon as these new cars came out: "BR8 is the quickest by a few seconds" Didn't take a racing guru to see which car is the fastest but it's still nice to see all layed out, which car is where stats-wise, not taking away anything from broughy
Another thing to keep in mind is strength. The R88 can take a beating without losing its wings, giving it a huge advantage over anyone that did lose wings.
Even when you don't record in 30 fps, you should consider uploading at 60fps just to get a little more bitrate for 720p and higher resolutions. Reduces the compression artifacts around text.
For anyone wondering about setups. The best that I’ve found is for every track except Brace for Impact and Keeping Track, use the BR8 with the stock standard front and rear wing. For the two tracks I just said use the max downforce PR4 and save boost for the back straights. Hope this helped
I appreciate that you released this video now, but I am very much looking forward to more extensive testing with these cars as well! For example, how the different tires affect the driving, or how different front/rear wing combinations work. (Not that you need to test all of them, of course!)
The R88 catches air on little bumps that all other open wheel cars can manage with ease. If you're racing with the R88 and you start to catch air let off the gas immediately! It will pull the front end back down.... Also don't forget when your front end starts lifting in the air you have zero steering! Its a good way to lose a open wheel race really quick.
