Excellent tips. My Hayter height adjust bar broke and I would never have sorted it myself without this guidance.
You are welcome... Happy mowing
Hello Mick. Serviced brother in law Hayter 41 today. Replaced grass box flap as well and with plenty of WD 40 the bar screws did not break! 😀 Appreciate your advice which meant I was prepared and took it easy.
Fantastic news mate
Many thanks. Second time I’ve had to replace the starlock washer on the height bar and I couldn’t do it without your video. I lost the first one in rough ground and the second just vibrated off. When I went back for another the garden machine repair guy said it was advisable to use two so they lock against each other. I tried to think of an easier way to get them in place. What I came up with is using double sided tape to stick two large ordinary washers on the back of the two starlock washers so there is a stack of four. If you pull the rod out so the end is just a little proud of the plate you can manoeuvre the washer stack over it with your fingers. Then hold it in place and lever the rod back with a screwdriver. Once they’re on, prise off the two large washers and lever the starlocks down with long nosed pliers or screwdrivers. Using the large washers means you can keep your fingers from getting cut by the sharp edges of the starlocks and there is plenty of space to get the starlocks on the spline through the washer holes.
Great idea mate
Excellent video. Thank you. Saved me buying a new machine 🛠️💰
Fantastic.. glad I could stave you some money..
I really like the idea of the pull rope to set the spring back in place
Great tip on pulling the spring through with cable. Thanks, you are the mower meister.
I had this to do about 3 months ago, and it was Mick who showed me how to do this in an earlier video, and that introduced me to this great channel. Thanks.
All just as you said, had to use a long lever on end of cord, to fit the spring, but it worked.
Many thanks
Yeah works a treat.. good job..
Brilliant help,thanks.Reckon you've got a new fan
Fantastic.. thanks for supporting..
Thank you so much Mick, I would never have fixed my mower without you expert instruction
No worries.. glad I could help

Another great job Mick 👍👍👍👍
Brilliant
Great job Mick.
I think Sting wrote a song about this mower ! You remember me when I mow the grass upon the fields of broccoli ! I mean man there's some serious broccoli under that bad boy ! 😆 Neat trick with the grease on the bolt ! And the rope and hammer thingy I like that !
Hi Mick. I've got exactly this mower but has no drive. Wonder if you have any videos on fixing the problem? Cheers.
Check the output shaft is turning the pulley..
Great video Sir Mick! Thanks for the shout out and don't forget to get down and donutty........lol
I'm sure its not as easy as you make it look, great vid Mick
Great tip with the string spring puller, wish I knew this before I wrestled with that spring 🤣 Won't be long before the bloody thing snaps again though!
Yeah they do snap
Great vid Mick 👍🏻
excellent vid mick as always
nice Mick hope everyone is well
Great video thanks, really helpful; I'd bought a replacement rod but didn't know where to reattached the spring 😳
I have 3 videos on this I believe.. the spring goes on the bend on the rod and at the back of the deck inside there is a 10mm bolt all on its own.. that's where it goes.
Thanks!
Your welcome mate
Good camera work there Sir Mick. That height adjuster with that u bend is set to fail with the spring tension that it has. Thats why they make replacement parts. Lol.🇺🇸Roger
Nice fix mick hate things to do with springs lol
Any advice on how or whether I can tighten the drive belt Mick? Regards, amax
Funny you say that.. I do... ruclips.net/video/JIOqOroE63M/видео.html

You stripping it down for repaint or just trying to blend in the sides?
Spray and pray mate
Nice video Mick, looked fiddley
Thanks for all your videos Mick. I’m looking into buying a second hand Hayter Harrier 41. What would be the main things you would look out for if you were viewing one to potentially buy it?
Ohhh as long as it's been serviced... What engine does it have ...
@@themowerman not seen any yet Mick. Just wondering what you would look out for if you were buying a secondhand Harrier 41. Any versions you prefer or that are more reliable?
@@oz969 Honda engine mate...
Hey Mick, can you tell me what the correct size starlock washers are for this job ? I have 2 Hayters to reassemble that have this problem, but I've tried 6mm and they are too small and 7 and 8mm much too big ? Cheers
Hi mate I can't remember off the top of my head but this is what I have and one of those will fit 340 Pcs Starlock Washers, Internal Tooth Quick Speed Locking Washers, Push On Speed Clips Fasteners Starlock Washers Assortment Kit - 65Mn, Black, M3/M4/M5/M6/M8/M10/M12 amzn.eu/d/7HmAGBe
@@themowerman Thanks Mick much appreciated
I have a Hayter Motif 53 and the torsion springs for the grass flap have broken. I ordered new springs but can’t seem to work out how the bar comes off to replace the springs. Any ideas?
I think I have one here. Email me and I will dig it out and send photos
@@themowerman thanks Mick I’ve dropped you an email.
Good video looks like a lot of work to put a clip on it
Great video, my Harrier height adjusts but won't lock, can't see any damage either. Any ideas?
Broken green leaver inside the deck I would say
@@themowerman Thank you, spot on, a closer look and I can see the locking pin is missing!
@@Kewester boom and now you can fix it.. good luck
Hi lovelly to watch your chanell and learn from best mechanic. . I have Hayter Harrier 41 , emgine is broken. Could you tell me please : I have Honda gcv 135 engine which i would like change from harrier 41 . Do you think the Honda engine will fit. There is same place for bolts hold engine. Thank You Very much...
It will fit but first check the crankshaft to see if it's the same size.. Alos if it has a drive then you will not be able to get the drive working
I my opinion this is a design flaw on Hayter's part, it's a common problem. The fix for it is a piece of rod about 3" long welded along the bottom two points where the adjuster bar deviates into its hairpin loop, the bar is cold formed and suffers big time with tiny stressfractures in its tightest bend which don't show until it suddenly snaps! With the rod welded in it'll never snap atthat point as the stress is transfered along the rod in a straight line. 😉
Well worth doing if your a competent welder. DON'T attempt to weld the deck unless you know how to weld Magnesium alloy! It can be done but it needs an experienced welder and an expensive procedure.
where can you buy the hight adjuster bar from i am looking for the same part?

Excellent video and great camera shots showing the issue and repair too.
I wanted to pick your brain if I may Mick? Sold a little Qualcast machine last weekend...had given it a full service inc plug and air filter, blade sharpened etc. Tested it the day before sale and cut my front & rear lawn and then demo'd it for the buyer. He was happy and away he went. He's now messaged me to say he used it on the same day he bought it and it was fine. He's tried to use it again mid-week and is claiming there's a kickback, the pull cord won't retract and that the machine is smoking/oil coming out of it. It did none of this when it was with me or the first time he used it. What would you do? Offer a refund or quote 'sold as seen'?
Sounds to me that he has hit something and done the timing in.. the only way to see is to take the flywheel off and inspect the keyway.. if it is the timing you could Repair it for him at a cost. Just check the crank is not bent first..
@@themowermanThanks for the quick reply. I think whatever has happened to it has happened whilst he's had it: that I'm pretty certain of. So far he hasn't actually said he wants his money back, but I think it'll be what he says if he brings it back. I'll sleep on it and let him know tomorrow
What do you do when the bolts do snap off......I've got one here snapped 🤷
Drill and tap or drill out and put a nut and bolt in its place
Good job mate they are a swine.
