I'm not usually a Commander Clash viewer, but I found myself watching through this whole episode. I really like the change to Spelltable for this season, somehow it makes the battlefield way more readable to me.
I think the best part of the paper games is the edited games are a little shorter and easier to watch in one sitting while still getting the best banter from the crew. Great game though.
Seth playing a no one wins deck over excessive card draw or panharmonicon shenanigans was exactly what I needed this morning. Thanks guys! Awesome episode!
Man the in person play is such a massive improvement its not even funny. One of my biggest issues with some of the older videos was that a good 40ish minutes of them were just waiting for Magic Online to resolve all the triggers, but, with that gone, it's gotten so much better. Liked and clicked the bell.
Absolutely loving the in person play! It’s been easy for me to follow, even though I’m not familiar with all of the cards and such. Great job to the editor and team!
I think they're on video chat, recording four separate videos of their paper game and combining them. Props to the editor, who combined 8 shots in total when you count the video of their faces.
I realized that we can actually get new precon content since the games are paper which I think is pretty sick Perhaps we can also do Doctor Who upgrades at some point? 👀
Holy crap Batman when did you switch to paper? So happy I clicked on this vid and made this discovery! May have to go back and find the switch so I can catch up. Much prefer paper magic to digital. Clash On!
Good content as always. I hope you guys do a stats episode though, they are always my favorite to watch and to go back to and see how your card tastes change over time.
I think I prefer this over moto. Not only do you avoid the moto crashes and stuff, but moto tends to be slower overall when everyone has to say ok to every play and you see every trigger have to go on the stack. Sure you might make more mistakes but I think that can add to the fun! Keep up the fun content!
This new season explains why in a normal play group, you cannot strictly count on fog meta to win a game. Most players playing red or black will build their deck in a way that can win outside of combat.
Play a second one if its so short! Also loved that Seth actually brought a deck that can't win... and won with it... crim and seth team up continues? :p
I have not watched CC in a long while. Coming back and seeing beautiful cardboard on tabletop instead of clunky MOTO was such a pleasant surprise. Loved it guys
The transition to spell table games has been amazing for Commander Clash. I hope this is something you guys plan to continue doing for the foreseeable future.
the editing on this is still off the charts! if I can make a suggestion, it would be nice to see the casting costs noted next to the commanders, rather than just the color identity
@@anamedninja5536 If your commander isn't a 5 color creature it's a lot harder to win with coalition victory (but why would you put it in the deck then)
This was a really fun game! Lots of weird interactions and I loved the deck concepts. Now I'm gonna be That Guy: Teferi's protection says your life total can't change. At around 32 minutes, Richard cast Vampiric Tutor after casting Teferi's Protection. If it still worked like the original wording "Pay 2 life, tutor a card" he actually wouldn't be able to cast it at all since Teferi's Pro prevents you from paying life. Luckily oracle texts makes losing the 2 life no longer a cost, so it turns into all upside. Richard should have been able to tutor without losing the 2 life.
@@lutherturk5375 I'm pretty sure that's the case yeah. 1. Float mana 2. Cast and resolve TefPro, rule of law phases out with everything else 3. Cast VT
Love the show, I just miss seeing everyone’s hands. It gave insight on all the bluffing, and internal analysis. Hopefully we get another episode of the team vs others. Thanks for the content!
I LOVE Wars Toll. I used to play it alongside Magus of the Tabernacle and Ghostly Prison, so - if you want to keep your creatures you can't attack, if you want to attack you can't keep your creatures.
I saw ThalRog and immediately clicked, then read the title and realized, "Oh dear, it appears I'm being called out." I built my ThalRog deck in a very fun way though. Lot's of stuff to give my opponents goodies & battles, no other hatebears, and then obviously some landocrats stuff paired with +1/+1 counters for the win condition.
Thank you guys. I was happy to see you all get banned and play savoury cards. I really enjoy that you record paper games. I feel that the passing priority on Magic Online is really killing the pace of the game on 4 players.
Phil should include as many cards as possible that flip from the top. First the Cardmarket video and now this. He could probably even beat Crim's blind Counterbalance record.
Every one of crims opponents should have lost 21 life on that molten psyche not 7 because lilianas caress says they lose 2 life for every card discarded. Also you cant pick 0 for wheel of misfortune. It specifically says a number higher than 0
I wish more people would play Blood Moon and Back to Basics. I pretty exclusively play mono-black and I wish that people would do things that help mono-color decks. Like one time on mtgo I played a game against mono-white, mono-red and a WUBRG deck, the red player jammed bloodmoon and the other three decks just stomped the non_basic.manabase deck.
With all of the mana rocks available nowadays, you are slowed but not completely out of the game. If your deck has no single target permanent spot removal, you should really reconsider your deck building
Personally, I prefer the MTGO setup for Commander Clash. It’s nice having a channel that’s unique in the landscape of countless paper gameplay channels.
I know I'm late but I just have to say....the moment I heard Seth's deck tech segment I immediately was rooting for him to "win". Absolutely hilarious.
Run more counters, mulligan to have interaction and a combo piece or tutor in your hand. The deck mulligans really well and can go down to 5 without issues. Is easy to fall on the trap of pursuing a lot of ramp in the deck in your opening hand, while it can be good, remember you want to combo ASAP.
4:00 I can't even read some of that handwritten list in the right image. Dunno if it's the redditor's white board or the LGS's but whomever it belongs to, freaking print out your banlist in standard, legible type so people can read it without struggling. 😵
I'm not sure if it would've mattered in the long run, but Richard Vamp Tutored after the T Pro. He shouldn't have lost 2 life from the tutor as his life total can't change. Also, you don't take commander damage under Teferi's Protection as you have protection from everything.
I miss you guys playing on MTGO. It was one of my favorite things about the channel. I will admit that your paper play is better than most other channels though.
42:47 IT doesn't matter, but can you? I do believe all card draw is done individually, so you draw your card for the turn and take damage, before the draw triggers for the cards you have on the battlefield would go on the stack (separately).
The card drawn at the beginning of the draw step is a turn-based action, it happens automatically when the draw step begins. Then, all impending triggers are put onto the stack at the first occasion, which includes the two individual card draw triggers from the two sources, and the two damage triggers from the draw step draw. Since Crim controls all of them and they're all placed on the stack at the same time, he can decide the order, and squeek an extra draw like that. Of course, as soon as he draws his first extra card, the damage trigger from that go on top of the stack and he can't draw the second extra card before taking the damage
Love yalls channel and yall are by far my favorite commander group I watch. This was a great game and it was entertaining to see Seth get somewhat “angry” for once at his own spells. I think Spelltable is nice to shake things up on occasion, but it is not my preferred way of viewing. MTGO it is much easier to distinguish between cards, see where they are placed, and it also allows you see player’s hands. It’s not always intuitive to follow what’s going on in spelltable.
i like the in person style this season, particularly all the edits of playercam and card descriptions, since i dont really know any new cards im finding myself more engaged in the match in general, mtgo would be so rigid with gamepieces and priority id often tune out on complicated games. if this hive mind teferi happened on mtgo i likely wouldve turned off, but the editting for it here was very entertaining
If you are bothering to meet up in person and play with real cards, would be cool if you would do something that you couldn't do on MTGO. Like use uncards or play 2HG or play cards that aren't on MTGO.
I don't mind the live play, especially for trying commanders not available on mtgo, but definitely prefer moto, the fact that it does all the rules work and triggers is a big sell, and a big part of why this is the only commander show I watch
Edit: I'm wrong and I can't read. With Hive Mind and Rule of Law, I believe players who have already cast spells that turn don't cast spells off of Rule of Law. So, for example, Seth would not have cast Teferi's Protection
It was, maybe we should have explained it better, but basically everyone except Crim picked 0 for all the copies so they wouldn't have to wheel (and die to all of Crim's enchantments). Crim picked 1 for one copy to wheel and then 0 for the rest.
Why did Phil entwine the tooth and nail when he has omniscience out? wouldn't it have been better to just make everyone search for 2 creatures to hand, especially against three black decks?
