    I used to drive X30 but found the carburettors on X30 engines are awful. I now race in Rotax and I've been having much less problems with it. However, I do have to say that when we did have a problem with the X30 engine it was easy to find a solution while in Rotax it is difficult to find the issue due to how more complex they are. However, this complexity does mean that Rotax can run much smoother than X30.

    I know this is old news,but I was fortunate to get a tag cart and I love comparing it to racing moto GP...I love my Rotax Max motor and would never believe any thing could out do its sheer explosion of power that I love about driving it,but this is not a complaint,the X 30 is pretty serious,16000 rpm,I think my rotax is at 12600,I'm told I should be able to get 14000rpm and I'm working on jetting and carb adjustments to clean up the low as best as possible,but was already tipped off that it would be as good on the bottom as the x 30 so I got work to do just to get it best as I can I have done two races and surprisingly did better the first race I missed the weight balance my fault,and I need an alignment to take some negative camber out of the front it pushes way to long before it turn going into turns so that's really ruining my corner entrance so what's the point...and I should have put the weight more to the front I had to unfortunately add just over 14 pounds much to my dismay....and it really caused my cart to get left behind two laps into the 15 lap main I was a half a lap behind,and could not believe it,in my first race I was able to lead the two guys who finished 1st and 2nd,I really sabotaged my great handling cart and I used the wrong fuel too I don't think it could have been any more depressing,ah the joys of being a new racers gotta learn some how,add to this the X 30 just being easier to drive and twisting up to 16000 rpm I was dazed after the race I was so mad...thanks nice track u got there,I like that switch back under the bridge...sweet.piece

    We have been running these for a while now in Oz and they are an excellent asset to the sport. On track tunable with no trays of jets or replaceable matting needed. The units have been very reliable with club racers often running out to 20 hrs, or more when running restricted. They are very consistently manufactured and are on the money straight out of the cardboard box from new. This has been proven both by the many State & National title holders who have used brand new engines and the very narrow groupings in qualifying times. This feature alone keeps more people in the sport by reducing the overpriced "golden engine" problem which plagued the 100cc classes.

As for difference between engines I don't know much about this for x30 but for rotax it is pretty marginal, there's about 1.2 hp between my race engine and practice engine on the dyno for instance.

    Realistically those with less mechanical aptitude will probably lean towards the Rotax, they will ask around the pits what jets everyone is using and hope they aren't getting dodgy advice or download an app and setup as best you can, and those old school drivers who enjoy tweaking the low and high jets on the fly may prefer the tunability of the X30 as they are able to wring every bit of torque out of it ultimately.
    If the bottom end is more linear and stronger in the X30 then less teeth can be used to help your straight line speed.

      Thanks to different manufacturing styles, Rotax come out of the box with slight variations, which can lead for huge performance differences. See how in rotax grand finals, quarter of the drivers are out of the top running thanks to bad luck in kart lottery. IAME cylinders are CNC cut, not aluminium cast and that makes them perfect out of the box.

    The only reason they are popular is because of Pfi as they import the large and engines in to make money. There has been significant drops in grids in the Rotax which is strange as they are so reliable and easy to work on. Rotax engines can also go about 20-25 hours without a rebuild, however the x30 engines go from about 4-6 hours making them extremely expensive to run and maintain.

    • @AlanDoveKarting
      @AlanDoveKarting  7 лет назад +1

      And JAG haven't made large amounts of money? BRP are only in this game to 'make' money. Rotax engines are 'easy' to work on depending on what you consider to be 'easy'. To be competitive in Rotax, at its height, was an extremely complex process which involved massive investment in selecting and matching parts. The reason X30 worked was because it was enough like Rotax and enough not like Rotax to attract people in. The way the market works is extremely complex. Of course as a class gets popular and more competitive it will inherent the problems of the class it took over from. And the class that it took over from will now benefit from not being the main class and the afflictions that plagued it when it was popular will go. This is the circle of life.

      Karting1.co.uk thanks for the reply I personally do prefer Rotax, however x30's are more powerful and in some cases easier to be competitive as you can rebuild the engines yourself, which is a good idea as they are harder revving engines and you don't have to send the engines in every 4-5 hours to stop it from blowing up as you can replace the parts yourself

    Rotax didnt become popular because of the world finals, the world finals were created after the engine was successful. in 1998/99 when it was introduced it was popular because the rotax goes 20hrs where 100cc does maybe 3hrs, also noise regs and health and sefety issues with bump start. If people start to realise how much more rewarding the X30 is and it takes off they will have a world finals, the demand has to be there before they are created.
    Easykart is IAME and they have world finals, so now the engine is homologated they are sure to happen for the X30 class too.

    • @phillipkerfoot2389
      @phillipkerfoot2389 10 лет назад

      Yeah but rotax is ruining karting imho. And even if easykart have world final. i know of nobody who races one. And you can only race in their series. And can't race any other kart as required by the regs.But i do hope X30 kills or seriously damages Rotax and not any other class such as TKM. But we really do need a new ICA class in the UK.

    • @nicelittlerunner
      @nicelittlerunner 10 лет назад

      X30 has a class at kartmasters this year, and the grids are getting bigger. the old 100cc lot need to get into X30 because the power and drivability is very close to ICA / 100C / FA. Not quite the same because of the clutches and balance gears but way better than Rotax. 16,000 rpm is a good compromise for the longer running between rebuilds than 100cc. I persoanlly practice with 100s but have an X30 to do OEKC with in the future.

    • @phillipkerfoot2389
      @phillipkerfoot2389 10 лет назад

      nicelittlerunner I think what the ABKC is considering may be even more to the old 100/ICA/FA people liking: cadet libre,junior libre,senior libre. All hypothetically to be run at club and national level. And senior libre has huge potential since you could run blues,X30'S,rotax and sudams all on the same grid.

    • @nicelittlerunner
      @nicelittlerunner 10 лет назад

      sudams are faster than X30 or rotax, blues are slower than X30 and rotax. Why not just x30?The good thing with 100cc is they were all about the same performance and they were light racey engines, But the people who were at the front were the ones revving the absolute nuts off them. The over competitive people trying to get fastest equipment ruined the series by trying to outgun each other by spending more, and rebuilding them every race - the rich / engine sponsored always rise to the top. There is a hopeless viewpoint in 100cc racing where the fanatics are engine based instead of driving based, so they love competing on who revs their engines hardest - the whole point of racing is the fair racing, the engine is a tool but ends up being the main point which is arse about face. (unless everyone has the same budgets) I got fed up with seeing in drivers race trucks and seeing line ups of 12 engines, pistons at £80 each race, rods at £150 each race plus labour. I don't like starting races knowing my equipment is 1s per lap off. Health and safety won't let FA run without a starter motor and battery, and they were fastest / most reliable with radiator water cooled - so they would weigh about the same as X30 by that point. That's why I practice with 100s revving upto 17,000 - 18,000 but would get my arse kicked when someone revs theirs to 20,000.

    • @phillipkerfoot2389
      @phillipkerfoot2389 10 лет назад

      nicelittlerunner The only problem with X30 is the same problem with rotax: they're both commercial classes and there are to many of those already. Even the ABKC admits this is a problem and we need a multi manufacturer class and also a proper replacement for ICA/FA since KF and KF clubman aren't it and 100cc non msa racing has took off this year. And a 125cc version of ICA/FA would be easy to create since maxter bmb,vortex and even talko could make a X30 or sudam style engine and thus revive peoples interest in karting.
