I agree with you on the Vic Firth brand of sticks and brushes. I've been using all brands, sizes, types and models of sticks and brushes over the last 55+ years and Vic Firth is where I have settled for the last couple of decades. While I don't agree with your specific choices, I do stress that Vic Firth has something for everyone. I use different sets of sticks and brushes for different cymbal combinations required for different sizes of venues and styles of music. Vic Firth rules!
I was wondering if you could go a little more into detail about your rides, like what makes them compliment each other and the band. I'm quite new to jazz drumming.
Julian has another video about choosing ride cymbals. The best advice is to search around the videos for an approximate sound but DO NOT BUY any of them until you hear them in person at a store. Take your favorite sticks and any of your own cymbals you want to match them with. Take your time. Be patient. These cymbals are like a marriage, they last a lifetime and you don't want to be stuck with a bad choice.
Another fun to watch video. I’m thinking about getting some recording gear so I will be looking at that recorder and mic. Seems simple enough. Btw, thanks for the response to my question yesterday concerning the ride cymbal. I’m always looking for a new cymbal and the Dream cymbals have flown under my radar. Next time I’m in Nashville I will check out some of that brand of cymbal. Cheers.
Awesome! Another version of that recording setup I use is the Blue Bluebird SL, and the Focusrite 2i2. That is an amazing setup too (and a bit less expensive), but of course the focusrite needs to be used with a computer. Also, I love my dream. Definitely a slept on cymbal brand, but they can be hit or miss. Hope this helps, hope you have a good one!
The Bosphorus rivets are brass plated. Steve Weiss Music says they're nickel-plated brass, but considering they're yellow, I have a feeling they got it backwards. The brass plating can come off rather easily when using tools to splay the rivets. They're great though - most other split rivets are too heavy and clacky, and tube rivets are kinda cheap. I tried the Vic Firth HB brushes and thought they were way too stiff. I just use the standard Regal Tip black rubber telescoping brushes. They're a bit flexible, but they get the job done. It's interesting to see people record drums with just one mic. I've been looking into getting recording gear, considering a 3- or 4-mic setup to start, but once you factor in stands, cables, and an interface, the cost really adds up. Do you just run your mic into the Zoom?
awesome stuff dude! Do you use in ear headphones for monitoring drums live? I have been having issues with connecting my shure 215 in ears to the trs? input 1'4 to scarlett 2i2 audio interface . We also record using zoom in my buddy's basement. Any suggestion?
I’ve heard through the grapevine that it seems they are unfortunately dissolving. I know a few people that are endorsed that haven’t been able to contact their artist reps for a while
May I ask the weight of the Bos Hammer 20" cymbal? Also, I'm assuming this is the cymbal that they used to offer as the Jeff Hamilton Ride cymbal...correct? Thanks much I really enjoy your videos and information.
Love my 20" Dark matter ride with 3 rivets too. And my 22" Bliss crash/ride.
Awesome!!
I'm mixing the eclipse series hats, crash, ride with a dark matter 18 crash. It's really versatile and loud. I can't wait to expand a few more
The dream cymbals are dope. I gou a moon ride because the dome sounds as beautiful as a bell!

Love the vic firth sticks! I'm an AJ5 player myself, but they make such great sticks, it's hard to go wrong, depending on you hands and ears.
thanks
Your videos are great, maybe list all ur stuff in the descriptio that would be dope

I’ll try to make a video about this! Thanks Ben!

do you have any link for the hi hats?
Where did you get your practice pad?
Reflexx’s website!
I like the sticks and brushes And the drum pad and Your selection of cymbals 😀Everything is good Have you tried using a heavier stick
You should try the Promark TB3 brushes! They’re modeled after Gene Krupa’s brushes. Light gauge and small diameter.
Interesting, I’ll have to check them out.
@@JulianArcher Very good stuff! I like Vic but I’m partial to Promark. Their Acid Jazz and Michael Carvin sticks are great stuff.
Great channel
Thanks Alistair!
Get it brudda! awesome vids
Thanks so much Isaac!! I appreciate it man!

You mention Regal Tip...I love certain ones but they seem gone....Is Regal Tip still around?

Heritage brushes are great. I've tried a few others but none really compare.
Yeah, they’re great!

Great video! What camera do you use when using the H6 for audio?
The Zoom H6 is 🔥🔥🔥. I’m definitely tryna cop one soon
Yeah man! That thing has been nothing but great for me!
hi, why not zoom H6 for over heads with the blue mic out in front of bass drum?
I have tried this before, and it does get a pretty decent sound. Honestly, I usually just do the single mic for simplicity’s sake.
@@JulianArcher fair enough :)
like - dislike ratio be like
Speak about cymbals and don't insert sound?!
I have a video called how to choose a jazz ride cymbal showcasing all my cymbals if you want to check them out!
