Appalling handling of fish. If you are going to practice catch & release (obligatory for springers) you should a) never keep a fish dangling in the net with stress or out of the water for longer than minute. Anything longer than that reduces survival by over 50%; b) never remove the fish and handle it for a photo opportunity for the same reasons but also because you strain the fish’s backbone and vital organs, again reducing its chances of survival. Still worse is to wash down its flanks with your hand as this removes vital disease preventing mucus. Never handle a fish intended for release by its tail. Then terrible examples of fishing style. Gigging the fly is a technique used for sea trout and generally is not effective for salmon. There are good reasons for that. Why Spey or Roll cast in a boat? Spey casting is a last resort cast where the bank behind you has trees or cover that prevents a full cast, or in windy conditions. The increased splash can put down fish up to 30m away and wholly unnecessary in a boat, where a fly may flick back on its occupants. The boat (and the ghilly) caught all the fish! So hardly a great example of how to fish to us all! Great footage of the river and pools, and proper Tay boatman at work though.
Cracking couple of Fish there.
