    What an astonishing bit of videography there! I’ve spent so many days trying to catch a salmon on camera and every time I’ve failed. I’ve been close, but yet to land that first salmon on camera for a RUclips video. To think you went and had all those fish blows my mind, as well as giving me confidence that good salmon runs still exist. Thanks for the video, it’s a masterpiece!

    I have always thought the same on the derogatory terms for a late-run salmon. Here in Nova Scotia, Canada, late-run salmon are often called stale. These are their spawning colours, and I think it's beautiful.

    Wow, you did so well to catch so many 'crocs' on so many different waters. The narration was masterful, but Larna was definitely the star. such perfect casting and fish handling. This really does showcase what good 'catch and release' looks like.

Yes, I have fished a lot with click and pawl reels, plus some very old closed faced click reels, they work great for Atlantic Salmon and id have no worries about using them but I love the loop classics - the "S' shaped handles and ported reels are my favourites, very photogenic plus they have a drag!

    Is there any beats for salmon fishing that are under £50 for a student to fish as even my local tay beat is £250 for a day which is more than I earn in a week.

    • @spate.flyfishing
      @spate.flyfishing  Год назад

      Yes! There are many. Scotland has lots of association water on most of the big rivers (Tay included) that are rarely more than £50 a day. Aberlour on the Spey is situated on a fantastic section of the river and is (I believe) £45 for the day. If you can get involved and join your local angling club, Pitlochry angling club is not far away from you and they have excellent fishing. Then you have many little spate rivers and smaller rivers all over Scotland which you can fish for as little as £5

    • @spate.flyfishing
      @spate.flyfishing  2 года назад

      Contrary to what you might have been told, theres plenty of affordable and good salmon fishing available in Scotland, and these rivers are no exception - in fact that's the main reason they were chosen. The Deveron has Spring fishing available on fishpal for as little as £15 plus the Ness has one of the best association waters in Scotland where you can have a cast for £20/30 a day. Dochfour, where we fished, is one of the prime beats on the Ness but even here you can get spring day tickets for £30 a day in March. We plan on showing much more of these great salmon rivers in Scotland which are affordable to fish.

      There’s still some great and very affordable salmon fishing in Scotland, especially association waters where you’ll not only find good fishing but good company on the water. We’re planning on doing a video soon highlighting the more affordable options for the everyday salmon angler 👍

    • @johngraham5996
      @johngraham5996 2 года назад +1

      not true robert, salmon fishing is not expensive unless you are on one of the top beats on one of the big 3 rivers! i fish the findhorn where a season permit is £125 from 11th feb-30th sept and you get fresh salmon in from day one, there is always many many 20lb'ers and some way bigger, i was fishing down a pool last season when a huge fish rolled in slow motion infront of me and it was easily 30lb plus with a tail like a shovel, one day this season i was fishing a falling river in august and in a 4hr spell i had 12 pulls, hooking 5 of them and landing 2, so good salmon fishing need not cost a fortune

    Salmon aren't crocodiles. It's not an 'affectionate' term at all. I've heard this silly, schoolboy term applied to cock fish by the 'younger' anglers on my own river, this season, alas.
