Love Robert Beltran not afraid to bring up the things that bothered him about his time at Voyager, but still loves it deep down. Dude had practically no filter for that stuff.

I don't think he loved it at all, I think he was profoundly disappointed by it. I think it's clear he loved working with his fellow cast members and the friendships that came from that. But it's clear he had a tense relationship with the writers and producers, and in multiple interviews he's said he was glad when the show was over.

I wish the writers had explored Beltran's character more and given him a chance to display his excellent acting skills more. Chakotay will always be one of my favorite Trek characters. I've been watching Star Trek since the original show aired when I was six years old. :-)

Guess I’ll have to fly to America for chance of catching Robert Beltran at a convention. Can understand his feelings. Must be tough being an actor signing all those sheets. Could listen to his interviews all day long. Such maturity and consideration in his answers. With a touch of that humour & lovely smile. Not to mention his voice. Although evolved a bit since his Voyager days I notice.

I love hearing Robert's voice, and totally understand the aversion to air travel - even though it is a staple of my work gig. Cirroc and Ryan, #OurLads, always bring out the great responses with their questions.

I actually did get the chance to meet Mr. Beltran at a con. I found him to be very kind. I could tell at times that he was putting some... Effort, into enduring some super nerdy fans. But he was professional and did it with grace. When someone was extremely rude to me. Mr. Beltran interceded on my behalf, he didn't have to do that. I get that Star Trek wasn't what he had in mind for his acting Carrer. I think we can all understand that. But I will always respect him for how he treated me when I met him.

I know how it is to be in a line of work and not getting the recognition you deserve. Being overshadowed by others. I did it for well over 4 decades, sometimes double shifts without overtime pay. (I am retired now, for health reasons). But I was never the jealous type by any means. I just did what was asked of me and cashed in the paychecks. And my co workers in general were really nice people. I miss them a lot.

Yet he was supposed to be talking to his commanding officer he was a renegade that was being hunted who was rescued by the Captain sent to bring him to justice who showed him mercy in how he was dealt with and chose cooperation over discipline he had nothing to complain about working with her on that front. The Captain is the show lead.

If they did a Seven and Chakotay continuation? With what they(cbs) had done with her recently, I can see some interesting interaction there. Given the tone of Picard. I see Seven, with Chakotay trying to settle. Leave Starfleet behind them. Chakotay and Seven respectively trying to reconnect in the alpha quadrant. Seven finding this "fenris rangers and as there relationship strains. Chakotay gives a parting message.
"Anika. Once you walk out that door... Look, I would never stop you. But, I caution you. I've been down that road. The Marquis, the Rangers, call it what you will. A lot of my friends died for that crusade. If not for Voyager? I'd be with them. I... I'd hate to see you make the same mistakes."
... "I need to do this"
"I won't stop you. I admire you. Just... Be safe"
There is a nod between them and Seven leaves. Chakotay looks forlorn, but true to his words as ever - he was proud of her.

I totally understand Beltran's frustration. The writers were clearly much more invested in Seven, the Doctor, Janeway, the Paris-B'elanna relationship...heck, even Neelix got more character development than Chakotay. At the end of the day he was nothing more than a caricature based on 90s Native American stereotypes, and had almost no meaningful episodes in the second half of the series. It must have been extremely boring for an actor of Beltran's caliber.

Robert Beltran I felt got robbed playing a Native North American character long before this was cool. Star Trek never really went back here in subsequent years. I still wish there was the USS Seven Nation - 6 nations plus the federation. The USS Ohsweken perhaps. Star Trek still hasn't covered this topic well. USS Ohsweken with a cool paint job - cooler than Romulan Warbird paint. I love his honesty - for me it shows a devotion to the craft.

VERY SAD TO SAY, Chakotay was the worst written first officer in Trek history. His part in 'Shattered' was about the only time I liked the writing for him.
Spock, Kira, T'Pol were all part of the command tripod the supported the ship/station..
As tactical knowledge of the Delta Quadrant was unknown and limited to Neelix, Chakotay couldn't offer any support. A the other first officer did in the other series.
As most scientific aspects were discussed between Torres and the Captain, Chakotay was out of the loop for that also.
There was the philosophical aspects, but that was spread between the Captain, Chakotay and Tuvok.

Actually that wasn’t true it was the male writers more interested in in pushing barbie Borg on the viewers as they decided their demographic was 15-45 when Voyager was beyond that. I missed Jeri Taylor and Michael Pillar influences too. The story was about the Captain and her relationships with the crew.

I always thought that the show was going to keep tension between chakotay and janeway for at Lear a few seasons. The second episode where chakotay pushes for Torres to become chief engineer was a great example. But after that all the crew fell in line and the show became boring. Just another alien of the week show

  • @BigNoseDog
    @BigNoseDog Год назад +1

Once they did away with the Maquis aspect of the show, there was little use for the character of Chakotay. But it didn’t help that Beltran was such a lousy actor. Writers love to write for actors who can deliver. See Patrick Stewart. They won’t be motivated to write for actors who look like they’re bored.
