I cheated! Pro mushers often prefer to let their aging dogs go to recreational teams, where the dogs will get the attention and care that older dogs enjoy. This allows regular mushers like me to pick up excellent trained dogs. I got Goober from Cody Strathe (who is just finishing the Yukon Quest in third today) and Paige Drobny (who came in 7th in the Iditarod last year). She was their lead dog, but she became my puppy trainer. If you have one dog that know the commands, the other dogs tend to pick up on what the instructions mean pretty quickly. I have a video planned on Goober, and another video I've been meaning to do with a musher who taught their dogs gee and haw the hard way. Expect those sometime this spring!
Can't wait to see them! I have two Shepsky's under 2 that I'm slowly working on regular every day training and using mushing commands like hike & on by when we go for walks/runs, with the end goal of recreational mushing here in Southern Michigan come next winter.
Thanks for the comment! I love it when people take the time to say hello. Glad you're enjoying the dogs and the scenery. I've got fun plans for spring trips in outrageously beautiful places!
Hello! Sounds like a problem for a professional dog trainer (which is not me!) In general, dogs love to run and pull and get out. If your dog is scared of walking on a leash, something has gone wrong. Pay the pro, or I worry that your relationship with the dog will not be what you were hoping, and you both will suffer.
7:08 Looooove the bloopers 😂
Really nice shots, loved the drone footage and the slowmo drive by!
Have really enjoyed watching your videos, Chris. Would love to see or hear how you trained the dogs to know gee & haw.

Had to look up "shepsky." Got it now! Cool. Just set up an interview for tomorrow! Expect a video in the next week or so...
