I picked mine up in shockingly good condition for $350 with a body cap, focusing screen, and film back. Got the lens separately for $130 and a waist level finder from a buddy who had an extra one kicking around. It’s such a cheap and easy way to get into the Hasselblad ecosystem, especially if you want to go the fully mechanical route. If I want a 500c down the line, all I have to do is buy the body. Highly recommend picking one of these up.
I went thrifting today and picked up a case that had two 500 EL/M bodies, an 80mm 2.8, 50 f/4, 150mm f/4 and a 250mm f/5.6. It has a prism viewfinder. no backs though. I picked all this up for $50! Gotta go thrifting!
Man I just got 3 hasselblads. Two 500cms and a 503cx. Long story short I kept getting outbid on eBay so I bid on 3 and won all. 2 of them in mint condition. And the other is a 25th anniversary number 517 Looks like it was a studio camera which got a lot of use. They all work so I’m happy with the purchases.
@@OceanicNASA about $5500 for all 3. And funny thing my mom just brought me another 500cm , so now I have 4. I’m only going to keep the 503cx and the rest will be sold at some point.
The ISO dial on the left has nothing to do with metered prisms. It is used to control TTL flash with an SCA Adapter and Metz flash. Metered Hasselblad prisms only meter, and provide an EV readout in the finder. The user has to transfer that EV value to the lens manually. Then, the locking button between shutter speed and aperture rings can be engaged to lock that exposure. Once locked, the rings can be rotated in unison to maintain the same exposure as the meter provided. Early versions of motorized 500 Series cameras used either one or two Varta NiCad battery, not D-Cells.
Honestly, Would love to see how you make those portrait. I am looking to do the same personally for my family. So, I can print their photos and hang them all up. Pleaseeee
Sounds like a fun way to get into it. Coming from a Mamiya RB68 70mm on Horseman. I do have a Hasselblad A70mm 100-200 back if I can use it on this I’m sold. I’ll try it
Which model has the proprietary batteries? I had heard years ago that the proprietary batteries were starting to crap out, and no one is making replacements. I was surprised to see the AA's in your camera.
Can we see an updated video with this kit and how you shoot. Picked up a Hasselblad 553 ELX. and it all works. First roll of 220 160 NPS came back amazing
Hi Chris! I’ve always wanted to shoot like Platon ! I have a 500cm and a 80mm lens. Enjoyed your video and what a find at 200! Are you able to share the setup like what strobe did you use and how did u get the exposure right? Thanks
I got my Hasselblad 500CM with Lens and 3 Backs for only $220. This was in 2019 through my local craigslist. Sites like eBay are ridiculous. Too many people putting random price tags on them.
Hi, interesting video, thanks. I’m lucky enough to have a 503 and ELM500. Generally prefer the 503, but where the ELM comes into its own is with a digital back. That is a very different experience. Have you tried that?
Bro, so good, just saw the 500 on ebay for less than 200, not bad... I'm new to Hasselblad cameras, what lens mount does the 500's have and are we able to adapt lens (ef or nikon f)? Also, what lens are you using for your talking head, its parfocal action is nice!!
Zander, you have to buy Hasselblad lenses (for 500 Series) which were made by Zeiss. The real Zeiss in Germany. They are pure manual lenses and contain a leaf shutter. So no, you can't use Nikon or Canon lenses.
Love that these are available. I feel like if didn't just recently invest in a Pentax 6x7 kit I would make a leap to this instead. That 6x6 format is definitely really intriguing. Either way I'm happy that there is a (currently) available way for newcomers to realistically hop into the hasselblad film ecosystem
The 501cm or 500 c and cm are unable to add a motor winder. Motor winder CW is for 503cxi and cw camera's. Your friend got a 553ELD for $200 sure it wasn't a 500 EL or ELM?
@@adammichna8440 the show is called Abstract. One of the episodes followed this renowned portrait photography and he was using Hasselblads for his studio
You can get D batteries at drug stores and grocery stores. Not sure why you think AA are more accessible? However, the AA are certainly handier to carry about.
The biggest cons of the motor are the electronics that can malfunction due to age. Also, the classic 500 series without motor are more sought after as they are fully mechanical and do not require batteries. I see the elm versions indeed more as studio cameras in 1 dedicated spot.

I have had my 500ELX for 20 years now, along with 9 CF lenses. It is not my main system but it is priceless to have and shoot B&W.

I really liked the focus you achieved with the use of the hands.
Great video! It should be noted that price usually does not include the viewfinder, lens, or film back.
i love that you just adjust the shot by manually zooming in the middle of your video ha! Nice video Chris.
yeah I love doing that
I got my whole Hasselblad kit for $750 🤯
tsk daaaaaaaaang

Lovely portraits! And this video made me smile. Thanks.
Such great portraits!
Nice video, I love my 503cw. The iso wheel communicates also with some the flash. So it’s a great feature for studio shooting.
I love my hasselblad 500c, use it mostly for studio shots.
it's a workhorse for sure

it's a great time :D
Portraits are killer !!!
thanks, Brae Brae!
The title of this video doesn’t do justice to the cool shots you took during that session. 👍
Coming right off the Platon episode, this video hit my feed. Looks like its time to check out the EL series before word gets out. Subscribed

my pleasure!
Maybe I should finally list my 555ELD and 500ELX for sale ... love the motorized bodies also for remote work + obviously portraits.
Those pictures r incredible!
Oh nice, I've been researching Hasselblads and never saw this one. Does the motor HAVE to be on the camera to advance the film?
bad video (I can hear the sound of price increasing.) I am a big fan of those camera!! thanks for sharing :)

They don’t take D batteries, they took a weird 6v battery.
Ur a hasselbaddie ;) I thought about this one for a while tbh
...not in germany...sets are around 1500€ :(
damn....that's tough
@C. Oe Ich hab auch gleich nachgeschaut, schade auf jeden Fall aber ich glaub wenn man bisschen nachschaut findet man auch ne gute zum guten Preis.
...for me, the Hasselblad has to be *completely mechanical* with zero electronics. We're talking 500 and 501 models.
did anyone find the doc on Netflix? if so what's it called

If you paid that much for any of those two cameras you got ripped off.

It's cheap because electronics are much harder to fix.

Man, you over paid. Nobody buys a film camera especially a 23 year old one anymore.
200 my ass…
