The fish you weren’t sure about was a Tupong (referred to as a freshwater flathead) Common in south west vic. They are a migratory fish that head to the sea and estuaries of rivers to breed. Excellent eating if you can find one big enough!
Gday mate, found your channel a few days ago looking for estuary tips, I moved to NZ last year and I have an estuary about 5 minutes from me, but im like a fish out of water trying to learn it. Nothing like fishing back home in Aus so far. Love the content and all the tips. And love that youre just calm and humble. So many fishing channels are just loud and full of filler. Yours is all business. Love it. Subscribed, Enjoy mate!
Im new to fishing, and Nev my mate, your channel is a go to for me, id love to see some more videos, explanations of what rods to use , what you use and different jigs ect for different types of fishing spots, also another day in the life on the charter would be awesome, and my favorite the catch and cook, keep up the good work bruv, 🍻🍻🍻
Nev, Amazing content, please keep it up. I check to see if you’ve got new videos daily. I watch a lot of other you tubers of similar content but always go for yours first. Keep up the great work mate.
Great vid Nev ! There is a need for " average Joe " fishing tips. I'm not knocking them but the top end shows are 90% out of reach of most and while they do have some beach, bank and jetty segments they are still using $500 reels and unlimited bait etc. A " where can I go fishing within car access and a $20 budget show " ! Yours to run with young fella !😎👍
Enjoying the new content Nev. I've fished the same system many times and avoiding the pickers is always an issue. You've done well to get those nice EP's recently. Could head down to Venus Bay for a food chain challenge. Dig up some Pippies - use in the surf for Salmon - jump in the yak for a Gummy on salmon steaks👍
@@NevsFishing Could go one better a Western port quaddie. Bass yabbie for whiting - whiting on spike for squid - squid for gummy (or snapper in season).
The first time I used live bait was a year ago at Tumby Bay in S.A. The local bloke called them 'clickers' and he took us out on the flat at low tide to pump them put. Then we kept them live and as the tide came in on the town beach caught a stack of yellow fin whiting up to our waste in the water. It was surprisingly warm in the water. Love it.
Man, your subscribers are going up at a good rate aren't they? Your channel is fantastic, great content, great visuals, great guy :) Stay yourself as you get more and more popular; I'm sure most people just like watching you for the guy you are and wish they had a life like yours. I'm moving to coastal East Gippsland soon, near Port Albert. Grew up in the country and mostly did eel and Redfin fishing in local creeks, only got to the ocean once a year for a vacation and it was never long enough to build my skills and knowledge. Now, at 43, I will be able to live the fishing life I've always wanted, with eels nearby too. I'll have to build me a smokehouse :) I was thinking to get a boat but watching your videos I'm now tipping towards a kayak. Have you fished at all around Port Albert or Port Welshpool? I'd love to know about kayaking with strong tides and some safety elements regarding that and also some beach fishing tips would be great if you ever have time. Apparently people get snapper from the beach but I haven't been able to find out too much detail about how to make it successful. Cheers :) Oh, lastly, any content on flounder fishing/spearing would be really great!
Cheers for the nice words mate! I have not fished up that way just yet but hopefully sometime soon. Also you will not regret getting a kayak, super versatile and can be used from ocean to the estuary's where boats can't go.
@@MrCheezified depends what ur trying to catch and where ur using it an estuary like that the only thing that would eat a whole small salmon like that is a decent flathead
Hi Nev I noticed that you said that you lost six nippers - and no fish. Try using a stinger (or keeper as the Kiwi's call them) you can rig each nipper with a hook plus a stinger. I've had fishing sessions where every fish I caught was on the stinger.
I think Nev's in too much brine for blackfish. These guys are in western flowing rivers, no where near the sea. I think John might be right with congolli ( Pseudaphritis urvilli ) but what you hooked Nev there is a monster specimen for it.
@@bejay80 yeah I'm not from Victoria so I wouldn't know. The two spined blackfish was just the only fish on the fisheries list for Victorian estuaries that resembled what nev caught.
Hey Nev, I think that fish was a river blackfish. I’m not 100% sure but that’s my guess. Could you shout me out in your next video too plz. I just started a fishing RUclips channel and want it to grow like yours 🙂😊
Pin me u won’t I bet
u got pinned
yeah dude... you got pinned bro
Lol

Yep
damn u got da big brains bro
What I love is that you explain everything. Too many channels assume that people understand the terminology used

Cool video bro, food chain for bait never seems to disappoint !
They’re a flathead gudgeon, I’ve caught a few there!
My grandfather called those nippers 'One Armed Bandits'.
Thanks for posting entertaining videos I’m a new subscriber

You're standing on Samphire... great eating with fish/seafood.
Good days= nev’s new upload
Cheers legend !
Hey mate I'm pretty sure the mystery fish you caught was a native Tupong Pseudaphritis urvilli. Your channel is awesome by the way keep it up
Thanks for the info, cheers mate!

Hi Nev, liked that alien fish you cought
awesome vid mate! keep it up
Good job mate
Your mystery fish is 1000% a tupong bro, called congoli, freshwater flathead or sand trout. Plenty in the estuaries out your way.
I would like to see even greater foodchain challenge. Get the yabbies, catch the baitfish and then catch a BIG fish. :)
Been attempting to film one recently!
@@NevsFishing should have used thr salmon as bait haha
@@hanna2nv geniunely curious. would you have cut it up or put a hook through its spine?

You should do a fresh water food chain fishing
Love the video maye
The fish you weren’t sure . Is a barakuda 😂😂
Nice job on 10K
That weird fish u caught at the start was a freshwater flathead but they do get up in the salt water
But u can call them toupong
Or gudgeon
cool!

pretty sure that's a Two-spined blackfish

Awesome vid do it more
Need some advice.. going night squidding soon, yes I’ll get S-Factor but what size and colour do you suggest?
White and 3.0 or 3.5
Nice fish Nev! Just wondering what reels you're using?
Stradic and Nasci
Let’s small one goes then stomped another one @1.55 😂
Yeah do another one bro
1:54 steps on a nipper! Hahaha
Nice video
make a spare and go spare fishing. By the way, i love your vids.
how exactly did you hook your nippers? I find them to be really fragile and fall of the hook easy
Pretty much thread them on the hook, you're right though they are very soft baits.
it's a fresh water flatty
Who has the audacity to dislike this video?
1:55 you stepped on one mate lmao
Was a complete accident, didn’t even realise until I watched it back 🤦♂️
R.I.P that lil bloke at 1:55
you have to do a video were you show us all your tackle and rods
Those flathead looking things are called grinners
I reckon that fish was a congoli
I think that fish was a big gudgen
loosen your drag all the way when you're soaking bait so the fish don't steal your rod and just tighten before you set the hook
little fish are better than no fish :p
Yes that is very true haha
Hay mate i have the same pump but I don’t no where to go to get em
1:55 you just step on a one
I’m pretty sure it’s a sleepy cod
I've never actually considered putting yabbies on a jig head I've always just put them on a shank
the first fish was a herring
Who else what to see him go for some gumbos
We call that weird looking fish at 5:05 牛鰍 in Chinese, we have that a lot in sea fishing and it is a good fish for soup
You needa go to rapid bay
1:54 RIP nipper
more of a late comment but is that toll your using called
I think that fish was a freshwater flathead
I’m not sure what it is but in the qld you get them a lot
I reckon your thinking of sleepy cod mate, slightly different to this species i believe which is a tupong.
Do you surf fish too Nev?
Nah haven't tried it... yet haha
I have wanted to see this video for ever always freshwater not saltwater
What state you in bro?
Victoria
I fish around melbs and surf coast, where bouts you hitting?
4:55 it’s a sand grinner they are preety common they are not a tupong maybe it is if ur in freshwater it’s a tupong if ur in salt it’s a sand grinner
try to pump about 3-6 times in a hole
It’s a grinner
9:03 u steeped on one.
It’s a Kong goli
Rock flatty
Where at
its a round head that has colours of a flatty
4:55 Lizard fish PINNED
whiting flatty?
:)
That is a gobi
The fish you tryied to figure what is it called gobie
Tupong.
Lizard fish?
Bro can I go fishing with you
Day 1 of getting nav to reply to my comment
