@Dennis but these buildings are modern and look very strange. The street is too wide and proportions are not right. Makes it very obvious that it's not western Europe and looks similar to Chinese knock offs
Though there are German-built houses all over Russia, in this particular case they were built by ambitious (and somewhat lunatic) republic leader (Markelov) rather recently. Though, they are not as awful as knockoffs that could be found in China, they did put some effort into making them. Anyway it's worth praising him for not giving up land to build some 40 stories high ghetto buildings, like some other leaders
I love this series because it shows me how amazingly kind welcoming friendly and curious Russian people are. As an american I am heavily propagandized against russia since early childhood schooling, and probably worse now due to our media. Russian history is one of the most fascinating of any nation and sadly in the US you need to be a few years into university to begin to learn it.
Just go visit and travel around. People are super friendly. There are crooks too, just be normally careful. But most are super friendly and love to interact with foreigners.

Going to these areas in the middle of nowhere on your own with a camera which cost the equivalent of one year’s salary (to local people) is a huge risk. I know Ben is more than capable of looking after himself but there are bad people out there who will take advantage. As a female I know I could never do even though I would love to.
@@mie... Despite looking shitty It's probably not as bad as you'r portraying it. The average salary there is approximately $400 which is not great but not terrible either. @Henry Tudor I'm sure he tipped him. He's been very generous in a lot of his videos. Sure he isn't reckless with his money, but he treats people right when they do the same to him.
Man I don't think you would ever read this, but this is amazing. I am Hungarian, and our language is in the Finno-Ugric family. Well apparently Mari is in this family as well. I found that their original name was "cseremisz" . The first part of this word is from the ancient Finnish word "śar " which appears in our word "sereg" which means army (So cseremisz means "army-men" .) How amazing is that these people are thousands miles away from us and their and our language still makes us remember once we were neighbors. Thank you for your effort
On Mosaics: I have not yet heard Bald explain them like this: They are everywhere, and a traditional and common form of art, as it is an art form they inherited from Byzantium (Remember: Russia is the last Rome). Carried in tradition through the millennia in Russian culture and churches, etc. The somewhat more loose, and artistically splashy soviet re-invention of the ancient craft is rather novel and lovely I think. Love some good mosaics.

@Ranjit Tyagi I am native hungarian speaker. I was living in Finland this year. For sure we cannot understand each other. But if finnish ppl speakin from distance it sounds like a hungarian. Finno-ugric language family and hungarian is the ugric part. We still share some similar words despite the thousands of years. (Eng-fin-hun) fish-kala-hal, logs-runko-rönk, water-vesi-víz, what-mite-mit
@@gojman14 so some similar sounding words already makes two languages relative? Hungarian also shares many words similar with turkish. What about that?
@Ranjit Tyagi contradiction 1: hungarian and finnish has completely different grammar structure. There are some related words yes, but hungarian also has it with few other languages. Does this make it a member of multiple language families? Contradiction 2: ancestors of hungarians never settled up north. How can they be in the same language family with the finnish? Its more than likely that hungarian is a unique langauge on its own. Just like basque, for example.

Actually @Bold and Bankrupt should have a look at these Soviet Bus Stops more often. Its a bit of a Soviet Modernism forward slash Soviet Brutalism. Traveller forward slash photographer Chris Herwig even released his photo album about these while travelling through the former Soviet Republics.

3:55 I'm from Belgium and those houses looked strangely familiar to the houses in our cities, was surprised you pointed that out
love from Belgium, love your content
@Dennis but these buildings are modern and look very strange. The street is too wide and proportions are not right. Makes it very obvious that it's not western Europe and looks similar to Chinese knock offs
Though there are German-built houses all over Russia, in this particular case they were built by ambitious (and somewhat lunatic) republic leader (Markelov) rather recently. Though, they are not as awful as knockoffs that could be found in China, they did put some effort into making them. Anyway it's worth praising him for not giving up land to build some 40 stories high ghetto buildings, like some other leaders

I am Russian and I love our small nations such as Chuvash, Mari, Mordva. They are so open and kind.
I love this series because it shows me how amazingly kind welcoming friendly and curious Russian people are. As an american I am heavily propagandized against russia since early childhood schooling, and probably worse now due to our media. I actually have a strong desire to visit this country now, whereas before I was just generally curious. Russian history is one of the most fascinating of any nation and sadly in the US you need to be a few years into university to begin to learn it.
Just go visit and travel around. People are super friendly. There are crooks too, just be normally careful. But most are super friendly and love to interact with foreigners.

You have alot of guts going to all these remote places. I am living vicariously through you!
I have never been to Russia so I can’t debate with you on whether it is dangerous there or not, but it’s all relative and compared to Switzerland statistically crime is higher in Russia.
Tbf, mostly it's much safer traveling there than in city ghetto areas because those places are so remote and uninhabited and locals know each other's faces, so he's probably less likely getting mugged or murdered for his $300 camera in daylight
Love the fact that you found a Russian factory with Lenin in front . And a fantastic mosaic at a bus stop. I have to say the old Russian regime took pride in the things they built during the communist era when they were in power. Absolutely beautiful well done Mr Bald.

Hey Bald. Every Uralic language is strange for foreigners. The hungarian too.
Igen eleg furcsa nyelv .. means: Yes quite a strange language ~ this sentance is Hungarian
@Ranjit Tyagi .. I'm from Hungary. Personally I find no similarities to Finnish at all
@Ranjit Tyagi I am native hungarian speaker.
