  • Sensei Cezar Borkowski has over 50 years’ experience studying, researching, teaching and competing in martial arts.
    In 1972, he established Northern Karate, which is now one of the most successful, well-respected martial arts and personal development organizations in the world - boasting thousands of active students.
    A former internationally-ranked competitor, Sensei Borkowski was six-time Canadian Champion. He was rated #1 by the North American Sport Karate Association (NASKA), and has received countless awards, trophies and medals.
    In addition to authoring dozens of articles for a variety of martial arts publications, Sensei Borkowski’s work has appeared in numerous books. These include "Modern Shotokan Karate", which he wrote as well as co-authoring the best-selling "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Martial Arts". He also researched and edited The History and Traditions of Okinawan Martial Arts and contributed one of the introductory sections of Sensei Patrick McCarthy’s top-selling book: "Bubishi: The Classic Manual of Combat".
    Sensei Borkowski has also been featured in international magazines, newspapers, and on radio and television. He lectures on a wide range of martial arts and related topics at events around the world.
    And, in his spare time, he is a Co-Technical Director of the Canadian Black Belt Hall of Fame, into which he became an inductee in 2011.

    Hanshi Cezar Borkowski is quite an inspiration. Even though I'm just starting my journey in karate, I feel really lucky and honoured to be one of his students.
