It isn't a Bosch painting but I did notice that the "Anxiety" status effect's icon is just straight up the Screaming Man painting by Edvard Munch lol. Love the enthuiasm in this video btw, you've earned yourself a subscriber! :)
the B on the knife seems to be a marking on the knives made by a manufacturer in Bosch's city , as archeological foundings amongst the city seems to have found corolating symbols on old knives
@@elfilin-to6dh im telling you that shot of him turning around to face everyone while they are in the bedroom murder scene is same as griffith's creepy "hawk" stare to the egg guy or even to the queen when she is being burned alive.
I’ve been able to find almost every human design so far in Bosch’s paintings. Some get more changes/interpretations than others, but they all show up in some way. It’s been fun to play I-Spy with his works
The thing with the dangling foot in the knight helmet next to the hanky panky pig @ 1:50 is also an enemy in the game. This was an awesome video I didn't know I needed haha
“It’s one of those games where you blink and it’s been 5 hours” I literally sat down at like 4:30 last night. I blinked. It was suddenly 2am… …and I felt felt like I’d barely “done” anything.
There were quite a few images in this video that made me go, "oh shit, I fought that one." While remembering some of the Metaphor fights. And not just the ones that were called out. Like the Armored Head with legs. I think that one came up twice.
Love how you said "If the game will throw more references" and you literally put pictures of enemies you face 30-50 hours into the game. Atlus artists just made the bestiary from his paintings LMAO.
Ty for making this, that artwork is amazing, I wonder what went through his mind, and if he ever thought for a moment in his life that his artwork would inspire something in the future.
This is really cool. Love seeing actual research about games like this. It's cool to see where the developers get their inspirations from. And it must be nice for Atlus to be freed from the religious influences of Persona and SMT (not that those games didn't also take inspirations from other places as well). But SMT/Persona fans have known about the series background and inspirations for years now. Very cool to see people digging into Metaphor and the history behind the works inspiring it. Great video!
I knew i had seen that monster somewhere!!! And yes, there are more that show up, now that you point it out i remembered at least one more, in the 2nd castle, there is armored dude that is also from the same paiting
would recommend watching a video thats like 50 minutes on the garden of delights. watched it cuz of metaphor and its big worth it. such deep meanings in his art
Uh oh, the last Jess Capricorn video made me get into the game it was about. Guess I'll have to download Metaphor after I finish ff9. I'm somewhere on disc 3, we're getting there!
I really appreciated this video! I studied history (but not art history) on the side in school and love when that interest gets rekindled, and video games have been great at making things like this really interesting. I also love how Atlus re-interprets western history and mythology so often. Thanks for sharing this, and especially making it spoiler free - I'm also only 15 hours into the game and am glad to learn this now to keep in mind for the rest of the game
Bosch and Dante were two artists that really put extra oomph into “the place with fire and gnashing of teeth”, like all of the fantastical depictions of Hell we are familiar with spawn in some way shape or form from those two Weird Guys™️
@@TheLostSheep578 yeah insomnia helped with finishing the game lol I didn't do ALL the quest. I skilled like 4 kind of hard quest. All together my Xbox says that i played 120ish hours but that does include me leaving my xbox on while the game is still open.
The monster design is ultra disturbing, like stuff in Renaissance art and stuff. Very interesting design for sure, the average game developer from the West would never even know this.
Now that i finished the game, theres a bagilion more enemies from that painting alone, the 2 ears whit a knife inbetwen or the black knight helmet guy just to name a few, and yeah i also was like wtff are these designs? who comes up whit such things xD.
Love the theories! Hope you enjoy the rest of your time with the game as you find out some pretty amazing stuff. Though I do think that the Triumvirate is more likely just their name cause it’s a fancy way of saying trio. Louis is just a big ol’ military nerd 🤓
"I can't stop playing metaphor" Lemme tell you... My jrpg backlog is about a year and a half long and I dropped all of it to focus on this one. 75 hours in and I'm still enjoying it 😊
Louis himself is a reference to Lucifer, maybe not surprisingly. Louis was apparently the name Lucifer took when disguising himself as a human. He is beautiful, and angelic-looking, arrogant, and seeks to overthrow the ruler. He also look very similar to previous SMT depictions of Lucifer (long golden hair, horns, beautiful, etc). Meanwhile, the prince is probably a reference to Jesus, being "killed", but our goal is to bring him back in order to stop Louis(Lucifer). Very similar to how Jesus was believed to have died, but then came back, and became the savior of humanity.
I can't wait to hear how you react to (and what you want to gush about) for every area, but the 4th was my favorite. I'm honestly proud of ATLUS. This is minor enough that I don't consider it a spoiler, but *_none_* of the party members are Lethal Chefs. They might enjoy food that is distinctly abnormal, but there hasn't been a single joke about food bad enough to kill.
The B symbol stands for Bmetaphor hope this helps 👍👍👍
holy shit
I can't find anything about it, can you link something please?
It's actually a sponsor tie-in with Auntie Ann's Pretzels.
It did not help and I didn’t need to know this to beat the game
weird place to find berry bebop
Yeah so without spoilers. These designs become more prevalent and blatant. Many Bosch verse cameos.
Imagine a guy in the reinassance looking at a Bosch painting and going
"Yo metaphor spoilers chill chill wtf man"
LMAO
The ear thing straight up shows up later on in the game, too
Its even more exact than Treeman, source: i just finished that dungeon
@@Hurricayne92 good you survive the worse dungeon in the game in my opinion.
Same with the weird armor head shell thing

REALLY???? omg

Damn i knew it looked familiar but couldnt place it thanks
I didn't notice that. Imma look next time.
the B on the knife seems to be a marking on the knives made by a manufacturer in Bosch's city , as archeological foundings amongst the city seems to have found corolating symbols on old knives
Imagine getting free product placement in a video game 500 years after your death.
if you are an art nerd you will love the enemy designs in this game! Bosch is also referenced in Berserk manga from what i recall.
Yup. One of the personal realms of the God Hand is basically a Bosch painting.
@@chillax319Also the main villain guy in metaphor gives me Griffith vibes

Yeah. There's an obvious Bosch reference and also Escher.
RUclips algorithm did me a solid today by suggesting your entertaining video. Probably most entertaining metaphor video I’ve watched so far.

I was so shocked when i looked up his name and just saw straight up enemy designs from metaphor lmao
There were quite a few images in this video that made me go, "oh shit, I fought that one." While remembering some of the Metaphor fights. And not just the ones that were called out. Like the Armored Head with legs. I think that one came up twice.
I thought they were on drugs when they made that thing. Turns out someone else was on drugs and they copied their homework.

Atlus artists just made the bestiary from his paintings LMAO.
Seeing this video after playing for over 121 hours hits so much harder
Well Ol' Ear Knife shows up too, and don't forgot weird baby
I loved this video, didnt know I wanted an analysis on this but glad I clicked lol

Great presentation, style, editing, intro, EVERYTHING ACTUALLY
Since Louis look like Griffith from Berserk I don't surprise if they got that idea from. Because Berserk too literally put a Bosch's triptych in there
Amazing vid love the thoughts and ideas you put out there can't wait to see if there's a part two the further into metaphor you get
Love this format. Love this humor. Love the ENTIRE video. Please more of all of this.

I personally like the idea that the eldritch abominations in a setting that goes out of its way to tell you it's fictional are just called humans.
peak human creation (i mean this game)
they were cooking so hard with these biblically accurate angel ahh monsters. legit cannot get enough of it

Obscure references with slightly religious undertones in SMT? Who could have imagined.
This video was really fun, your editing style is great.
The simbol on Heismay's poncho is the token car logo in Persona games. His simbol is very similar to the Alfa Romeo logo.
Many many MAANNYY of the stranger bodypartsgluedtogether creatures from that triptych and other Bosch works make cameos as well
