Even as a Redhat Admin, I have used it. Cough, cough...still use it.... In fact alot of the very same modulus that you avoid , so do I. LOL I do like the email notification you get when an update for security patches are ready to be loaded. Server monitoring (multiple servers) and of the drive monitoring, LVM and iSCSI setup. To many features to list. Thank you for a great video.
Love the sharing of this great piece of software. I've been using Cockpit for some time now and would like to give Webmin a go. My concern is Docker container control didn't see it in the tutorial.
I've been using webmin since the late 90's. It's a good tool, especially if you're using Debian/Ubuntu... it also works well with CentOS/RedHat. There are some modules missing for some very popular software that is in use on linux servers... Nginx being just one example. However if you decide to using CentOS/RedHat I highly recommend CWP (CentOS Web Panel) instead of Webmin. It's just as good and has a very fast interface. I use both depending on what OS my clients use or need.
"Custom Commands" - actually it's not a replacement for SSH, it's a cool way to setup your own commands. I, for example, set a command to update my python server from github, which is a string of multiple commands. Much easier compared to SSH, type it all or even copy-paste it all in, etc. Just open, click, done. Also, cockpit can be used for Docker and VM managment, I did not find it in Webmin.
I agree that Cockpit is still pretty barebones. I have to say though that creating a network bridge interface was absolutely flawless on my CentOS 7 VM where I was testing. It simply configured the bridge based on the current settings of the then configured ethernet interface. I tried the same with Webmin and it was a complete fail. That said: I wish Cockpit had more modules for e.g. OpenVPN, IPSec, Samba and so forth. There is a distribution that has added its own module for OpenVPN to Cockpit. The distro is called Nethserver. However, I had problems with it from the beginning and didn't spend much time with it. I should retest with more patience though.
@LawrenceSystems I'd love to see comparisons between a Linux and *BSD based email servers. From your mention of PostGrey, it sounds similar to ProxMox Mail Gateway. Cheers!
Brother, i'm using Aapanel for web Hosting ? aapanel is Very Slow, so i want to switch into WEBMIN, ? for web Hosting ? webmin can provide Free SSL or not ???
Hey Lawrence, great video thank you. I have a very specific question , eventhough this vid is almost 2 years old at this point. Could you perhaps show me how to add multiple server monitors with Nagios server monitoring in webmin? Thank you
Webmin was very useful for learning the different options for me. Do you have an opinion of installing webmin via the wget and deb package vs using apt-get with there repository? What is the difference between webmin, virtualmin, and usermin?
One of the KEY features for me is that you can login to webmin using any sudo enabled account. You do NOT need to log in as root, and I would not recommend that.
Hey, Lawrence, I have a question, what if I'm a sys admin in a company with lets say 20 users is it possible to let them login to Webmin without root user obviously and then each user could change their own password from there? lets say to svn or other stuff? basically we don't use nis or ActiveDirectory so they have like 3 users with the same name for 3 different services and we want to be able to let them change their own password on their free will without asking the IT to do it is it possible? if so it'd be great if you share it with me br, Tal
Well thanks for this tutorial is it possible to use this webmin for a webhosting small bussiness? Actually i'm thinking of starting a small web hosting business and the prices of software like plesk or whmcs just blew my mind help!
@@LAWRENCESYSTEMS okay but for billing purposes it's not a good idea. What i want is use a tool. What do you think of ispconfig ? this is my mail adress arnaudogando@yahoo.fr if you can help please don't hesitate i'll appreciate
If anyone wants to run Webmin on Ubuntu in Azure, they've just released a template in the marketplace that fully sets this up for you: azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/cloud-infrastructure-services.ubuntu-webmin
Webmin is great tool and has been for years. Been using is for almost 20 years!! Night and day difference from way back to now.

Thank you for a great video.
Webmin has been the tool for 15 years for me
Recently installed webmin and it makes life so much easier but it's still good to know those line commands.
Thanks for this in depth demo of webmin!
Really enjoyed video, it would really like to see a tutorial all on the Samba module and setting shares and the Active Directory.
Webmin and netdata are great together, webmin creates a link to netdata when they are both installed
This was a long time ago, have you look at webmin lately ??
What about virtualmin ?
Has cockpit improve to your liking ?
I have an updated video here ruclips.net/video/pwrKyZD0L68/видео.html

Love virtualmin! Have used it in production running a hosting company for years. So much better than cpanel
webmin and it's sister product virtualmin are what I use for my hosting business..:)
wow, so you don't use cpanel or plesk ?
Love the sharing of this great piece of software. I've been using Cockpit for some time now and would like to give Webmin a go. My concern is Docker container control didn't see it in the tutorial.
I don't think Webmin has any docker plug ins.
Thanks you helped me leave Windows Server!
Can you do a tutorial on Samba sharing, I can't figure the samba module out
Just started using it. Really like it.
super video ...plz explain virtualmin installation on webmin .. thanks in advance .
I don't use Virtualmin
I like debian too because Red Hat PHP was still stuck natively on 5.xx
Love webmin, makes Linux much easier to maintain.
I use the command line mainly but use webmin to manage samba shares and permissions.

How popular is webmin in the enterprise world?
Really: Another very usefull information. I´ll definitely check it out now.
Like webmin as well for my BIND servers, and just general Ubuntu server admin stuff
Hello do seomeone know how can i upload to server VNC?
@LawrenceSystems I'd love to see comparisons between a Linux and *BSD based email servers.

I don't manage or use local mail servers anymore so not likely I will do a video on that topic.
webmin is nice . it can be clunky and a bit messy here and there to do things. but it works.
What would you suggest? For a control panel that is?
Any module to manage ZFS?
Not that I am aware of
guys , i already install ssl using let encrypt , but it only for the webmin link , but for original domain , it not installed . so it normal ??
Brother, i'm using Aapanel for web Hosting ? aapanel is Very Slow,

it does not and Webmin was not really made for web hosting the way cPanel is.
@@LAWRENCESYSTEMS cpanel is not free. 🤮 I'm trying to speed up aapanel, by reverse engineering.

can someone help for a vpn connection to the dhcp server?

This is cool, but is there similar review for Ajenti? I've been using Webmin for a lot of time now, but I wonder how Ajenti compares to it.
there are reasons why its not longer part of the debian sources

Do you know how to setup email id in outlook?

you could run a hosting company from the command line, it's all about how much code you want to learn and write yourself.
