I did a 7 day fast in college and there were 3 of us volunteered for a psychology student. I didn't feel great but another guy was playing floor hockey and had great energy. He was quite overweight and I wasn't. The 3 rd guy was skinnier than I. No problems at all.

Go carnivorous to fix your disease then add back safe plants if you like but keep the carbs out. Stay Ketogenic.

For Alzheimer's you can go Ketogenic without having to restrict calories unless you do a periodic fast.

I found this interview so informative. I was quite skeptical myself. I think two questions that remain for me:
    1. What are the stress affects to the heart with this? Specifically for people who have cardiomyopathy. I know the best answer is “talk to a cardiologist”…but I’m more curious if they included that analysis during the studies. And 2. I’ve worked really hard to make sure im reaching my recommended protein amounts, and the macros for this approach almost flip what I have been following. So after the 5 days, is it recommended to go back to the higher protein per day amounts? I will admit, being nervous of losing weight during the five days, and then switching over to a different macros approach and gaining it all back and possibly more. I’m really wanting sustained weight loss and health.

Saturated,/ monounsaturated fats should be your main food and then protein. As long as you don't go back to eating carbs you won't have trouble keeping the weight off. I've been doing it for years and many or my family and friends. Carbs are toxic addictive junk for anyone's body.

Phenomenal, informative interview. You did a great job drawing out details. I appreciate that you exposed the nuts and bolts behind why carbs are okay, but only if synced with circadian hormones. The explanation of the diet's specific titration to the mTOR and RAS threshold was a little confusing for me. Wouldn't this be different from individual to individual? Wouldn't drug therapies in place cause anomalous threshold variations? What about physical activity levels like intense aerobic or resistance training? Would they impact the efficacy of the diet by altering where those thresholds are? One who takes beta blockers for heart rate control, for example, has a drug-induced lower metabolic rate. Wouldn't that affect where those thresholds of mTOR and RAS are? I wish we could have taken a deeper dive into these specific aspects of program, but overall, very good interview. I am really thankful to you for truly magnifying my understanding of the fasting mimicking diet.

Thank you for the kind feedback I'm glad you found this episode helpful. Dr. Peter Attia's Book Outlive is a great resource if you want to learn more about mTOR and RAS by the way.
