Still watching 4 years later. I'm a diabetic and my glucose was highest at 245. That's the upper limit of high, bordering dangerous. I didn't want meds so I did a very low carb diet, fasting OMAD and cycling for exercise. 6 weeks later my glucose went down to 120. You're right. Our diet is killing us slowly.
I have been a nurse for 35 years and have seen the explosion of metabolic syndrome. It’s catastrophic effect on the inpatient population can not be overstated. You both are doing amazing work . Information is power.

I am a nurse for 37 years who have metabolic disorders. Thyroid and possibly hypopituitarism. All those fastfood meals sent the Hospital when we worked doubles were not healthy meals.
I started at 318 lbs in 2016. I was taking insulin 2 to 3 times per day up to 110 units. I literally searched the web like a madman and found the ketogenic diet. They were not saying it would cure diabetes at that time but it would at least help it and reduce the meds. I started the Keto Diet approx. 3 years ago. Have lost 75 pounds (without exercise, I just had a hip revision and couldn't exercise before now), reduced my blood pressure, reduced my reflux a lot (stopped myself from getting esophagus surgery), stopped Insulin (A1C of between 5 and 5.5), stopped Prilosec, stopped having sleep apnea, reduced my inflammation so my hip replacements are comfortable. I love good satiating Saturated Fats. Why aren't doctors SCREAMING this information to the heavens. I know it's a money issue (from many directions) so I guess they choose to sell their souls to the Devil to keep quiet????? Yes I agree don't listen to the Government anymore.
The Medical Profession never admits when it's wrong... thereby violating their Hippocratic Oaths WHOLESALE. Biggest problem I saw (retired) was new drugs.... barely better (often worse) than the old generics but $Hundreds per month more. If the generic produced the THERAPEUTIC RESULT (e.g. Lab Results) that should be OK... But whenever bad results occur... Lawyers go after the Doctor for NOT using the best available Drug. So most Doctors just Rx the expensive new stuff. Letting patients decide... always results in their Insurance paying many $Thousands a year (and $Hundreds in Copays to them).... Compared to $30 a month...or often FREE (at Wal-Mart).
Also...DON'T BELIEVE anything the Press Reports... the MSM has become the Mouthpiece of the Unelected part of the Government... and the Mouthpiece of Big Pharma (that does >1/2 of all advertising the Press sells).
You are absolutely RIGHT! It's ALL ABOUT $$$$ Money! Even today, Drs will NOT give truthful information about Diet to patients - and instead either push the "diet" currently advocated for by the ADA (American Diabetic Assoc) the AHA (American Heart Association - OR they just refer you to a nutritionist or dietician who will do the same thing - WHY? because Big Pharma controls what Doctors and Dieticians learn in school. It's disgusting. I had Type 2 Diabetes and was almost 100 lbs overweight, high blood pressure and many other problems - this, despite having tried SO MANY diets that I was told would work. THEY DIDN'T, and I got worse. Finally, 3 yrs ago, I found Ketogenics and low carb. Three years later and I now eat a whole foods, low carb diet (a combination of keto and carnivore) I have been completely grain free, sugar free, and processed food free for over two years and never felt better. I've also lost that 90 lbs - easily - while never being hungry. Not only that, but my blood work has completely changed for the better - including my triglycerides and all of my other cholesterol measures.
Wow. I JUST noticed, after watching this all the way to the end that when Nina said the "floaters in my eyes are gone" that I haven't had a floater in my eyes since I changed my diet this year. 6 months in and just never even noticed it before. Another crazy immediate benefit.
I am going to change my food intake! I hope it helps my eyes! Changing the food we take in can bring positive change. My dog suddenly had good energy levels, and very clean teeth, when he came off expensive kibble onto meats, cooked and raw. Like a miracle!
Yes our dogs horrible skin problems vanished when we stopped buying dog food and fed her mostly meat scraps from the same meat we eat. She used to smell so bad no one would let her stay with them when we went out of town. Now she is welcome at other peoples houses @@annadonahue4119
Recently I found out I have Gallstones, the largest ones 17mm and 21mm - and also fatty liver. Everything I have looked up says stop consuming dairy fat, and vegetable oils and carbs. Nothing tells me what to eat or use instead. This conversation has been enlightening. Thank you

For what it’s worth. I’ve been (mostly) sugar free, and grain free for about a year. For over 20 years, I’ve had lower back issues (several microdiscectomy procedures, injections, etc.) and was hardly ever NOT in pain. Now, after a year of a Keto-ish lifestyle change, I have forgotten about back pain! About 3 months ago, I broke down and drank some beers with some old Marine buddies, back pain and joint pain the very next day. I’m sold!
I got good news from the doctor the other day, 3 months ago my a1c blood 🩸 test said I was pre diabetic.i was so afraid 😱 didn’t want to be diabetic so I went on keto program ,then the carnivore and had my blood test . It was 5.9 pre diabetic, - my new test 5.5 normal I’m so happy about being healthy eating this way . Thank you 🙏 every body on You Tube for helping me with my success,!
Fantastic! Pre diabetic is a useless term. It just means they don’t want to give you medication yet. You are already in trouble at that point if you don’t make some changes. Well done on the improved HbA1c
My 90 year old grandfather ate steak for 40 years because he worked in a slaughterhouse and it was free. He's in great shape today with no major health issues. My father ate the SAD diet and lots of sugar, had a heart attack at age 60 and passed away at 65 from diabetes.
It's not the sugar though it's the fat in the sugar foods. It elevatates blood sugar causes diabetes and hypertensive heart disease. There are good carbs and bad carbs just as there are good fats and junk fats. You seem to come from a line of good genetics. N=1 means nothing.
I have always ate a low fat diet and have struggled with my weight. Long story short my husband and I went to a functional medical Dr. that suggested a diet with meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner with veggies at lunch and dinner and to my surprise the weight came off effortlessly 😱 I was amazed!!! I was vegan for 2 1/2 years and one day I couldn't stopped craving meat.Had a steak with lemon thyme butter and almost immediately felt my energy level hit the roof.4 mths on and I've never looked back.
@jonjo O'Brian haven't you heard? Clinical studies have shown that the healthiest people consume 3 to 5 grams of salt per day. Much more than the dietary guidelines of no more than 2.3 grams.
I was similar Elizabeth. I shifted between vegan and vegetarian on and off for 25 years, and it literally made me so ill. To the point where when I was in my late 30's I could feel my body shutting down. I'm on a meat and dairy diet now and am slowly getting rid of all my auto-immune issues and feel healthier than ever. When I was vegan I literally craved the meat so bad, because my body was screaming for the nutrients and when I ate meat again, I cried, Not because I felt I'd failed, but because I felt so good and satisfied afterwards... I'll never look back. I'm 100% convinced that no-one can sustain a vegan diet. I've heard so many people say they're fine on it, then after 10-15 years they are very ill, have liver and kidney problems and are literally malnourished, but are like "No, it's not because of the vegan diet..." Total denial.
I went to Zambia last year to visit my fiancé who was working there at the time and basically the only form of fat was soybean oil. I remember not liking anything because I found it stinky (now I know the oil went rancid because it was unstable) and it was nearly impossible to wash the dishes. I was so relieved to go back home and eat my beloved lard 😁
Back in the old days Lard was a key ingredient in Soul Food and in fact all southern food cooking and they used to save the Bacon fat n the bacon drippings to flavor their soups and stews and other things.😊 it was great

Nina was an influence in my wife and I going carnivore last year and dropping over 150lbs between us. The evidence is there for people who will allow their nutrition paradigm to be challenged. The problem for most is that if one wall comes down then they start to doubt other foundational beliefs and are so scared of what that might bring, they never realize that it is the key to real growth as a human.
I completely agree. Once I convinced myself to allow my body to give me feedback and be my guide, my health was transformed. I was lead to mostly meat with low carbs and almost zero sugar. Once I got the seed oils out, I was all set. Covid policy helped the scales fall off my eyes and it affects every decision and research I make now. I laugh now thinking just how simple human nutrition is for most. Imagine you’re going to lunch at a famous persons house in 1750. The food options were simple and the proper human diet overall.

My family thought the same thing 6 months ago. I gave them a week's worth of keto dinners, including dessert, and changed their minds. So delicious and they all felt much better as well. Now they don't argue or fuss.
I’ve been keto 2.5 yrs and lately *experimenting* increasing beef, mineral salt, pasture eggs, decreasing all other keto foods. I’m 49, great energy, and my mental & emotional health is improving by leaps & bounds! Had labs at 1yr post keto and 2yr - both good. Total cholesterol is 225 not that I’m concerned but other people want to know. I’m gearing up to start strength training again. I power walk 3-6 miles almost everyday. Thank God for ketosis and the things I’m learning from Internet Docs, testimonials, and other great teachers. So thankful. I believe ketosis and elimination of most frankenfoods is going to improve many people’s health. I’m hoping it makes a difference in years to come with metabolic & cognitive lifestyle based disease. 🙏🏼 Thank you Doc!!

I bought the book "The Obesity Code" by Dr. Jason Fung, MD, and gave the book as a gift to my primary care doctor. The book does an excellent job explaining how hormones make people gain or lose weight in layperson's language. For the doctor, there's a big "Endnotes" section listing all the research that Dr. Fung read to write the book. I highly encourage other people to give that book to their doctors.

Nina Rocks! I watch everything I can see on/with/about her. She should get The Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Nation's highest civilian honor for the U.S. Nobel should be looking at her too for unearthing all of the dirty little secrets the big-???? companies don't want you to know and which have been making us sick. Kudos to Dr. Hyman too for giving her the respect and honors she deserves. And for continuing to legitimize her research. I am also amazed at Nina's communication skills to not point fingers at big Pharma or big Food. She always navigates around saying that even if given leading questions. She gives you the facts and then just lets you digest it. Again, Kudos to Dr. Hyman for saying it for her. Not all suppressed research is conspiracy, as she points out just the human aspect of why the "real" data does not make it to the whole world. Her depth of research, recall and logic are amazing.
Dr. Hyman, it would be really convenient if the names of your episodes also mentioned the names of your guests. You interview many well known and influential people and their names would create more attention as well as make it easier to search later on. And thank you for the great content.
Great interview. I just want to acknowledge Sally Fallon and the late lipid researcher, Mary Enig who were trying to get the word out about healthy fats many years ago. My second edition copy of Nourishing Traditions is dated 1999. Fallon and others founded the Weston A Price Foundation which has been testifying before congress about the harmful lowfat dietary guidelines for years. The foundation has been on the cutting edge of science based nutrition and healthy safe agricultural practices.

She made me laugh on another part where she talked about the doctor warning you against the dangerous diet that's making you so healthy. I had gone to my doctor for a blood test when I was 32 days into a 40-day fast. The doctor actually said how nice it was that I had lost 45 lbs in that time and that my blood results were the best he's ever seen, but that I should quit my dangerous fast.
Son of Liberty It would be funny if it wasn't so depressing. I've read Nina's book as well as books written by other low carb advocates after being diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and having other health problems. Doctor just wanted to give me drugs. Refused medication and did research instead. Went low carb high fat and in 3 months all signs of metabolic syndrome disappeared. Doctor confused by results of tests that confirmed this and gave me 'permission' to continue with diet but only if she could monitor it. Best part is that I'm never hungry and my depression has almost completely disappeared. Planning on going to the next stage to eventually eliminating carbs to the minimum and see what happens.
@Irene Ewens While there are those that propose moving to lowest possible or even zero carbs, it is worth mentioning that there is a plethora phytochemicals available in vegetables that do not exist in any meats. Some can, of course be obtained just by using spices but there are others that necessitate cruciferous vegetables (for example). A consideration in all of this is that regardless of what you eat, you are still exposed to thousands of toxins that our ancestors were not exposed to and some of these 'available only in plants' compounds have been shown to minimize the damage from such toxins and to promote detoxification.
@@billleach3396 , certain vegetables are permitted in a zero-carb, ketogenic diet. Cruciferous, for example, are an allowed group. Nothing wrong with going zero-carb and in fact, human have no dietary need to eat any carbohydrates. None.
@@kayallen7603 While I do agree with what you posted. There are people that seem to only be fully healthy on a 100% pure carnivore diet (seems to be genetic). Those people seem to have allergies to practically all vegetables and there is even a subgroup that reacts poorly to ingesting any amount of insoluble fiber.
No one listens anyway. Look at foods in supermarket. High fat, High sugar, High caloric density, high salt. Guidelines don't mean anything no one follows them.
@Cleaning Up No they do not. People don't eat low fat pasta and they certainly do not eat enough rice and potatoes. Cheese is full fat by definition there is no such thing as low fat cheese. Almost all yoghurt has too many calories in fat, while containing too much sugar. The ideal yoghurt would would be no fat, no sugar. It is hard to find though.

Mandated "enrichment" can be a problem for those unable to properly metabolize folic acid (MTHR) and iron (hemochromatosis, and many men, postmenopausal women)
I know this episode posted almost 5 years ago when most of us still had some faith in our government agencies, looking back at all the disastrous policies and treatments since this episode, I really have to question if this isn't intentional, especially looking at the new 'Food Compass' that is much worse than the plate or pyramid. Nina is a true hero of our time ! Thanks Mark. First time I heard her talk - I had my share of doubts, did not trust her from the start and for years heard many other experts- Gary Taubes, Mercola, Jason Fung and many others. My health improved dramatically folllowing her strategy !! My physical strength tests returned to the level of my early 20s, while being now in my mid-50s !!

I will be 65 on Halloween and when I was 32 I was able to run marathons at a 6 :00 per mile pace... ate like a Spartan, worked full-time, raised a family and trained half as well as an Olympic athlete. I THOUGHT I knew how to eat properly and was lean at 5'10" 145 lbs... about 6% body fat. As I got older, stopped training and slowed down I put on nearly 100 pounds... guess how much of that was FAT storage? My normal weight, not the super skinny runner weight was probably around 165 to 170, but I had gotten fatter slowly over the next decades even while eating the AMA recommended food pyramid selections. I do not have a sweet tooth and was not a potato chip and soda kind of guy. Four months ago I heard of the Ketogenic Lifestyle and began studying, listening to Dr. Eric Berg, BUTTER BOB, Tom DeLauer and Dr. Ken Berry with their short RUclips clips. During this time I also moved when the home I was renting an apartment in was sold so I did not start this "lifestyle" until ten weeks ago. I have easily moved to 2 meals a day and do this with a 16 to18 hour "intermittent fasting" window. I DO NOT feel like I am dieting and chose NOT to buy a scale and instead only use a tape measure. I have already lost 3 inches off of my waist and feel like I am 1/3 of the way to my goal of 185. I figure at that point I will get a pizza before deciding if that is low enough or should I reach for 175. The first few weeks felt like a bit of a biological experiment where my gut bio evolved from a carbohydrate seeking medium to a keto adapted one. During those times I experienced bloating, sleep disturbances, changes in my bowel movements, stinky urine and calf muscle cramps (which were more likely a result of the many boxes I had to move) UNTIL I learned the simple foods and spices, like cream of tartar, to get the potassium and magnesium levels up. Oh, and Himalayan sea salt with its 84 additional nutrients. After my body adapted I LOST all hunger until I extended my 2 meal a day regiment from 16 hours to 18, which simply meant, IF YOU ARE NOT HUNGRY DON'T EAT silly! I am not at OMAD (one meal a day) yet but can easily envision progressing to a four hour eating window where I can dine to my heart’s content within the CONSCIENTIOUS nutritional guidelines that ketogenics provides but only plan on doing that if the tape doesn't move. Meanwhile, I am continually learning and fine tuning the keto lifestyle and giving away all of the garbage that I no longer wish to eat. There is a downside to giving away unwanted food; it is the GUILT of knowing that it is UNHEALTHY! So, in order to combat that infliction I give them my MS Word document, which includes a 2-page overview and 6 additional pages of notes to help them save time and jump start this program should they wish to try this path instead of the crappy one they’re on. The GREATEST THING about this LIFESTYLE is that I AM NOT DIETING!!! I am walking 2 to 4 miles three to four times a week, NOT EVEN lifting weights or anything that physically exerting and still the pounds are melting off. I sleep well, feel fantastic and am still super psyched about this ten weeks into it. I have not hit a wall of any sort and feel confident that even if I do that I can make the minor adjustments needed to climb over it. Nina's book arrived a few days ago but I always finish the one I’m on before moving to the next. Call me old-fashioned, call me simple minded, just don't call me late for my KETO dinner! I like that someone with an MD is on this because people don't listen to other people who don't have any degree in the health care field. I remember when many people told me that eating more than one egg a day is bad for me, and that butter is bad; good thing I followed my gut feeling and still ate everything they told me that was bad for me.

The most frightening part of all of this is that inflammatory/toxic oils soybean, canola, etc. is in EVERYTHING. I almost bought avocado oil mayo but then decided to check the label. IT HAD SOYBEAN OIL listed as one of the first ingredients and avocado oil as one of the last. ugh. you have to be very diligent to be healthy in America bc we are our only advocates and that's with me being knowledgable of marketing ploys.

Hadn't the like button been virtual it would most certainly dent or crash as I kept hitting it every minute! Simple transcript of this interview would make a worth-reading book. I've been fascinated by latest developments around food for quite some time and listened to/red numerous Ted-talks, interviews, medical studies and new ideas, though none offered such density of facts and "awe" moments per minute. This is awesome. I was already becoming Nina's fan before youTube even got me here, but now - I'm getting your book and you're going into my hall of heroes! The history we're being taught at school is chiefly about kings and politicians, conquerors and people that won the fights for power - in other words a bunch completely useless to our species. We should be solely taught about scientists, tinkers, explorers, and people like you guys - people that debunk false beliefs, truth seekers that help take us the next step. Thank you.
I did Atkins for many years and never ate more than 20 grams of carbs per day. Tomorrow I'm starting the carnivore diet as done like Jordan Peterson and his daughter. Just beef, salt and water. Nothing else.

@@lt2339 I did that diet for two months or so. I ended up with gout in my right big toe but was able to cure that with several over the counter things like sour cherry extract and turmeric curcumin. I went back to a carb restricted diet like Adkins (just a keto diet). All's good, but meat only was way too boring.

I was vegan for three years for reproductive health reasons and only lost 15lbs. Ive been healthy keto with IMF and ADF for 8.5 months and Ive lost over 56lbs. I decided on Keto and Fasting after finding out that I have master gland issues which would explain over 35yrs of weight struggles and "yo yo" dieting. I went Keto and decide to Fast for hormonal reasons and after discovering that I am definitely carb sensitive. The 56lbs was obviously necessary, but just a glimpse at the weight loss differences.

Yep. Saturated fat is actually good. But there is also a factor of fat soluble vitamins, that probably wasn't taken into account in these original studies. You take butter and it naturally comes with vitamins A, D, E, B12 and so on. With corn oil you get only corn oil as long as it's not artificially enriched with vitamins.
And natural manure feed also the soil not only with the minerals that the artificial fertilizers mimics but artificial fertilizers does not enrich the actual structure of the soil but rather drain out the soil to often like a soft concrete like structure that tend to be less able to retain moisture as well absorbing water to deeper level after rains so whatever are grown there will be more sensitive to periods of droughts as well as rain.

Regarding the "fat idiots" remark of yours, I neglected to mention I am down 8kgs and continuously under 20% body fat so perhaps you are a little misguided on that. Eating dietary fat whilst keeping dietary carbohydrate low LOWERS BLOOD TRIGLYCERIDES which LOWERS CVD. Elevated glucose triggers higher insulin, a fat storage hormone which triggers the formation of TRIGLYCERIDES before jamming it in to fat cells...the only way to keep those triglycerides from accumulating is to exercise like hell (creating a whole host of other unnecessary problems) or, to lower blood glucose. Muscle mass is impacted by protein intake, my MUSCLE MASS is UNCHANGED on a higher fat diet as my protein intake is consistent with previous consumption. Muscles retain more fluid when you consume higher carbohydrate intake as it simply stores more water in the muscle tissue. This retained water IS NOT more muscle mass, can you follow that or do you need to read a study written by one of your academic buddies to figure that out for yourself? The long lived civilisations close to the equater eat higher carb diets (no dispute from me on that) and those 30° or more above or below the equator, do better on high fat (a well known principle in genealogy longevity research)

When we look at Ayurvedic medicine dating back centuries and look at their viewpoint, we will note that it isn't 'one diet fits all'. We are still trying to say this/that type of diet is right /wrong without clearly seeing that we can "individualize" nutrition in the same way that we are individualizing medicine. We have nutrigenomics to help support this process and many old wise traditional practices to pave the way. (Body type might factor in.) Studies are broad and helpful but they don't account for the individual. This being said, overall processed foods are not good for us!

Low fat sad diet, makes you sad and depressed and feel deprived all the time. I’ve done WW, eaten vegetarian, I know what makes me feel good. FAT! Having a mother with Alzheimer’s I know that all the cholesterol lowering meds can’t be good for us. Our brains need good fats! I feel better and happier eating good fats. Thankful people are waking up and realizing Ancel Keys had an agenda years ago.

Cholesterol is made by the liver for a reason, typical of western medicos who think that they are smarter than the human body and prescribe synthetically derived chemicals to "control" it (and make billions for their buddies in the drug profession, what a joke) Alzheimer's patients are now being administered exogenous KETONES and MCT oil on a ketogenic diet (only by the enlightened specialists that is) and having major improvements in patient brain function. The SAD is not low fat. Cholesterol lowering medication may be necessary to reduce stroke. Be careful with fats as they almost always increase cholesterol. Almost all people who suffer strokes run high cholesterol > 200mg/dl combined with depressed HDL and higher blood pressure.

I'm trying a low carb/high healthy fats diet now. Seems to be working better for me than the high starch/low carb diet espoused by the likes of Dr. Mcdougal etc. Mainly plant based fats though, avocado/olives/nuts/seeds etc plus wild caught oily fish. Both diets include lots of vegetables, and I'm basically just reducing the starches from the high starch/low fat diet and replacing them with healthy fats. I note some people like Rich Roll thrive on a plant based diet, but not everyone can tolerate a lot of starches. Try both and see what works for you. By the way Dr Hyman, any chance of getting Rich Roll on your podcast ? That would be an interesting conversation.

Years ago, when I worked as an RN in a hospital, I was fired for telling a heart patient that he would be better off using butter, instead of margarine. The science has been understood since the 1980s, however, commercial interests work hand in glove with hospital administrations. I have a very good friend who is an unstable diabetic. Of course his dietitians have told him to eat.a high carb, low fat diet, even though we have known for many years that carbohydrates all break down to sugars. Now, he is on a slew of medications prescribed to fix the side effects of the other medications he is taking, yet, none of his so-called dietitians have even mentioned a ketogenic diet, except to tell him that it would not be safe.
My father gave me a book written by an MD in 1928, The Human Body, he bought when he was a Biology major in college post WW2/GI Bill. He gave to me when I was 9 years old in 1960. In it, he said that medicine's greatest accomplishment up to that time was the diet for diabetics that was meat and vegetables. We had a severe diabetic in my family and so this stood out in the book for me. When insulin was discovered and made available 20 years later, the diabetic diets were chucked out the window. Medical Science had 3-4 decades and millions of patients and experience with a primarily meat diet with some vegetables that they knew worked. Medical doctors today are not doctors. Diabetes became a bigger problem in the 1890s with candy becoming more available. Doctors don't want to be told they have been 180 degrees wrong on every macronutrient, fat, protein and carbs. A good scientist is happy to find out where he is wrong. It explains their failures and frees them to alter their practice. Today's physicians are government/corporate whores and bureaucrats and only want the money and social status of being a doctor, both of which are about to experience a serious decline. They viciously defend the lies they have been taught with Soviet-style viciousness, which you experienced first hand. We have a big problem with heathens masquerading as educated/civil people. I am 69 years old, and I have been trying to heal/reverse my metabolic issues for at least 3 years, gradually eliminating things from my diet. I got some blood work done yesterday, and got the results today. A lot has improved. My blood pressure seems to be better, my thyroid is no longer slow. I am no longer pre-diabetic. I got my insulin level checked for the first time, and it is at 33.31. Since no doctor has ever bothered to check it before, and I didn't know to ask them to, I have no idea if it was higher before or not. I have been eating low carb for a good while, and my carbs are even lower now, than when I first started keto. I have been eating more fat lately, trying to get my insulin down. My labs are mostly in the normal range except for one or two things. However, my cholesterol is kind of high. My doctor seemed to understand about my high fat/low carb diet yesterday, but after she saw my cholesterol, she sent me a message that she wants me to cut down on the saturated fats. She wants me to cut down on all fats, but mostly the fat that is actually the healthiest. I'm not going to do it. I'm not a bit worried about the cholesterol. I detest the official dietary guidelines. I can't wait until they finally get changed. I am about to order a copy of Nina's book.

great! My mom is in a nursing home and I wish she was getting a nourishing diet. This is a wonderful goal. I am aware of this info and find good food sources, but that doesn't help her. I hope this will change all over the world. Ending CAFO operations as discussed here, would be wonderful. Serving meals based on this science would be great but put some industry food and big pharma out of business and that is a huge hurdle. The more people become aware, the better. We need a food revolution, not paris climate accords! It would mean new businesses in a thriving and wholesome way.
My friend told me she lives not far from a plant that makes vegetable oils. Two men who were cleaning one of the big vats died from chemical poisoning in those vats!!
When I asked my plumber what was the worst job he did, he said you would think it was blocked drains from excrement. He told me that wasn't the worst, but it was the block drains in commercial kitchens from fat.
You say to buy lard instead of veg oil, but every lard products in my area has additives in it. So I make it instead as well as tallow. I have been using that for a better part of a year.

When i was obease I would hide what I ate and would not talk about it as much. I was a closet cookie addict. My father in law was a public cookie eater and big soda drinker and died of pancreatic cancer 3 years ago. I now know why it was bad. There still is a lot of grazing opperations. Approximately 85% of U.S. grazing lands are unsuitable for growing crops. Grazing cattle on this land more than doubles the area that can be used to raise food. Most all cattle are born and raised on these kind of cattle ranches, open, grazing, grass.

When you look at the length of this video, it's likely you will have a tendency to just pass it by and look for something shorter. Huge mistake! There are so many very interesting facts in here that everyone should know that you owe it to yourself to watch it. And more important, take notes, then confront your physician when he or she says "fat is bad, you should follow the nutritional guidelines that are currently in place." Absolute bunk from your doctor. Get them up to speed or fire them is the best advice you could ever get.

There are many 'scientific' studies which say that 'low carb diet' means that the percent of carbs in the diet is "50% or less." 40-50 percent is NOT 'low carb.' The max should be under 20%.
what is missing from this interview is the mention of physical activity when talking about ancestors diets, and how other cultures eat . it is understandable that a hunter/gatherer can thrive on a high fat/meat diet without much illness. but in our sedentary society, im not sure such a diet would provide the same benefits. i like micheal pollans quote best : eat food, not too much, mostly plants

Biggest problems in science 1) Corellation is not causality 2) biased/externally funded studies 3) drawing conclusions out of unreliable data... 0.18% from unreliable data... that is like NOT EVEN an indication towards any point since the uncertanity of the statistics is in the xx percent range. Scientists should have way more schooling in statistics.
Still watching 4 years later. I'm a diabetic and my glucose was highest at 245. That's the upper limit of high, bordering dangerous. I didn't want meds so I did a very low carb diet, fasting OMAD and cycling for exercise. 6 weeks later my glucose went down to 120. You're right. Our diet is killing us slowly.

I am a nurse for 37 years who have metabolic disorders. Thyroid and possibly hypopituitarism. All those fastfood meals sent the Hospital when we worked doubles were not healthy meals.

I started at 318 lbs in 2016. I was taking insulin 2 to 3 times per day up to 110 units. I literally searched the web like a madman and found the ketogenic diet. They were not saying it would cure diabetes at that time but it would at least help it and reduce the meds. I started the Keto Diet approx. 3 years ago. Have lost 75 pounds (without exercise, I just had a hip revision and couldn't exercise before now), reduced my blood pressure, reduced my reflux a lot (stopped myself from getting esophagus surgery), stopped Insulin (A1C of between 5 and 5.5), stopped Prilosec, stopped having sleep apnea, reduced my inflammation so my hip replacements are comfortable. I love good satiating Saturated Fats. Why aren't doctors SCREAMING this information to the heavens. I know it's a money issue (from many directions) so I guess they choose to sell their souls to the Devil to keep quiet????? Yes I agree don't listen to the Government anymore.

Biggest problem I saw (retired) was new drugs.... barely better (often worse) than the old generics but $Hundreds per month more. If the generic produced the THERAPEUTIC RESULT (e.g. Lab Results) that should be OK... But whenever bad results occur... Lawyers go after the Doctor for NOT using the best available Drug. So most Doctors just Rx the expensive new stuff. Letting patients decide... always results in their Insurance paying many $Thousands a year (and $Hundreds in Copays to them).... Compared to $30 a month...or often FREE (at Wal-Mart).

Even today, Drs will NOT give truthful information about Diet to patients - and instead either push the "diet" currently advocated for by the ADA (American Diabetic Assoc) the AHA (American Heart Association - OR they just refer you to a nutritionist or dietician who will do the same thing - WHY? because Big Pharma controls what Doctors and Dieticians learn in school. It's disgusting. I had Type 2 Diabetes and was almost 100 lbs overweight, high blood pressure and many other problems - this, despite having tried SO MANY diets that I was told would work. THEY DIDN'T, and I got worse. Finally, 3 yrs ago, I found Ketogenics and low carb. Three years later and I now eat a whole foods, low carb diet (a combination of keto and carnivore) I have been completely grain free, sugar free, and processed food free for over two years and never felt better. I've also lost that 90 lbs - easily - while never being hungry. Not only that, but my blood work has completely changed for the better - including my triglycerides and all of my other cholesterol measures.

Recently I found out I have Gallstones, the largest ones 17mm and 21mm - and also fatty liver. Everything I have looked up says stop consuming dairy fat, and vegetable oils and carbs. Nothing tells me what to eat or use instead. This conversation has been enlightening. Thank you

For what it’s worth. I’ve been (mostly) sugar free, and grain free for about a year. For over 20 years, I’ve had lower back issues (several microdiscectomy procedures, injections, etc.) and was hardly ever NOT in pain. Now, after a year of a Keto-ish lifestyle change, I have forgotten about back pain! About 3 months ago, I broke down and drank some beers with some old Marine buddies, back pain and joint pain the very next day. I’m sold!
I got good news from the doctor the other day, 3 months ago my a1c blood 🩸 test said I was pre diabetic.i was so afraid 😱 didn’t want to be diabetic so I went on keto program ,then the carnivore and had my blood test . It was 5.9 pre diabetic, - my new test 5.5 normal I’m so happy about being healthy eating this way . Thank you 🙏 every body on You Tube for helping me with my success,!

My 90 year old grandfather ate steak for 40 years because he worked in a slaughterhouse and it was free. He's in great shape today with no major health issues. My father ate the SAD diet and lots of sugar, had a heart attack at age 60 and passed away at 65 from diabetes.
It's not the sugar though it's the fat in the sugar foods. It elevatates blood sugar causes diabetes and hypertensive heart disease. There are good carbs and bad carbs just as there are good fats and junk fats. You seem to come from a line of good genetics. N=1 means nothing.

I have always ate a low fat diet and have struggled with my weight. Long story short my husband and I went to a functional medical Dr. that suggested a diet with meat for breakfast, lunch and dinner with veggies at lunch and dinner and to my surprise the weight came off effortlessly 😱 I was amazed!!! I like what you said Mark - if man made it don’t eat it but if GOD. Made it eat eat 🤩 great podcast thanks for all the info 😊😊

I was vegan for 2 1/2 years and one day I couldn't stopped craving meat.Had a steak with lemon thyme butter and almost immediately felt my energy level hit the roof.4 mths on and I've never looked back.

I was similar Elizabeth. I shifted between vegan and vegetarian on and off for 25 years, and it literally made me so ill. To the point where when I was in my late 30's I could feel my body shutting down. I'm on a meat and dairy diet now and am slowly getting rid of all my auto-immune issues and feel healthier than ever. When I was vegan I literally craved the meat so bad, because my body was screaming for the nutrients and when I ate meat again, I cried, Not because I felt I'd failed, but because I felt so good and satisfied afterwards... I'll never look back. I'm 100% convinced that no-one can sustain a vegan diet. I've heard so many people say they're fine on it, then after 10-15 years they are very ill, have liver and kidney problems and are literally malnourished, but are like "No, it's not because of the vegan diet..." Total denial.
I went to Zambia last year to visit my fiancé who was working there at the time and basically the only form of fat was soybean oil. I remember not liking anything because I found it stinky (now I know the oil went rancid because it was unstable) and it was nearly impossible to wash the dishes. I was so relieved to go back home and eat my beloved lard 😁

Nina was an influence in my wife and I going carnivore last year and dropping over 150lbs between us. The evidence is there for people who will allow their nutrition paradigm to be challenged. The problem for most is that if one wall comes down then they start to doubt other foundational beliefs and are so scared of what that might bring, they never realize that it is the key to real growth as a human.
I completely agree. Once I convinced myself to allow my body to give me feedback and be my guide, my health was transformed. I was lead to mostly meat with low carbs and almost zero sugar. Once I got the seed oils out, I was all set. Covid policy helped the scales fall off my eyes and it affects every decision and research I make now.
I laugh now thinking just how simple human nutrition is for most. Imagine you’re going to lunch at a famous persons house in 1750. The food options were simple and the proper human diet overall.

My family thought the same thing 6 months ago. I gave them a week's worth of keto dinners, including dessert, and changed their minds. So delicious and they all felt much better as well. Now they don't argue or fuss.
I’ve been keto 2.5 yrs and lately *experimenting* increasing beef, mineral salt, pasture eggs, decreasing all other keto foods. I’m 49, great energy, and my mental & emotional health is improving by leaps & bounds! Had labs at 1yr post keto and 2yr - both good. Total cholesterol is 225 not that I’m concerned but other people want to know.
I’m gearing up to start strength training again. I power walk 3-6 miles almost everyday. Thank God for ketosis and the things I’m learning from Internet Docs, testimonials, and other great teachers. So thankful. I believe ketosis and elimination of most frankenfoods is going to improve many people’s health. I’m hoping it makes a difference in years to come with metabolic & cognitive lifestyle based disease. 🙏🏼

I bought the book "The Obesity Code" by Dr. Jason Fung, MD, and gave the book as a gift to my primary care doctor. The book does an excellent job explaining how hormones make people gain or lose weight in layperson's language. For the doctor, there's a big "Endnotes" section listing all the research that Dr. Fung read to write the book. I highly encourage other people to give that book to their doctors.

Nina Rocks! I watch everything I can see on/with/about her. She should get The Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Nation's highest civilian honor for the U.S. Nobel should be looking at her too for unearthing all of the dirty little secrets the big-???? companies don't want you to know and which have been making us sick. Kudos to Dr. Hyman too for giving her the respect and honors she deserves. And for continuing to legitimize her research. I am also amazed at Nina's communication skills to not point fingers at big Pharma or big Food. She always navigates around saying that even if given leading questions. She gives you the facts and then just lets you digest it. Again, Kudos to Dr. Hyman for saying it for her. Not all suppressed research is conspiracy, as she points out just the human aspect of why the "real" data does not make it to the whole world. Her depth of research, recall and logic are amazing.
Dr. Hyman, it would be really convenient if the names of your episodes also mentioned the names of your guests. You interview many well known and influential people and their names would create more attention as well as make it easier to search later on. And thank you for the great content.

Great interview. I just want to acknowledge Sally Fallon and the late lipid researcher, Mary Enig who were trying to get the word out about healthy fats many years ago. My second edition copy of Nourishing Traditions is dated 1999. Fallon and others founded the Weston A Price Foundation which has been testifying before congress about the harmful lowfat dietary guidelines for years. The foundation has been on the cutting edge of science based nutrition and healthy safe agricultural practices.

She made me laugh on another part where she talked about the doctor warning you against the dangerous diet that's making you so healthy. I had gone to my doctor for a blood test when I was 32 days into a 40-day fast. The doctor actually said how nice it was that I had lost 45 lbs in that time and that my blood results were the best he's ever seen, but that I should quit my dangerous fast.

Son of Liberty It would be funny if it wasn't so depressing. I've read Nina's book as well as books written by other low carb advocates after being diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and having other health problems. Doctor just wanted to give me drugs. Refused medication and did research instead. Went low carb high fat and in 3 months all signs of metabolic syndrome disappeared. Doctor confused by results of tests that confirmed this and gave me 'permission' to continue with diet but only if she could monitor it. Best part is that I'm never hungry and my depression has almost completely disappeared. Planning on going to the next stage to eventually eliminating carbs to the minimum and see what happens.

While there are those that propose moving to lowest possible or even zero carbs, it is worth mentioning that there is a plethora phytochemicals available in vegetables that do not exist in any meats. Some can, of course be obtained just by using spices but there are others that necessitate cruciferous vegetables (for example).
A consideration in all of this is that regardless of what you eat, you are still exposed to thousands of toxins that our ancestors were not exposed to and some of these 'available only in plants' compounds have been shown to minimize the damage from such toxins and to promote detoxification.
@@billleach3396 , certain vegetables are permitted in a zero-carb, ketogenic diet. Cruciferous, for example, are an allowed group. Nothing wrong with going zero-carb and in fact, human have no dietary need to eat any carbohydrates. None.

While I do agree with what you posted. There are people that seem to only be fully healthy on a 100% pure carnivore diet (seems to be genetic). Those people seem to have allergies to practically all vegetables and there is even a subgroup that reacts poorly to ingesting any amount of insoluble fiber.

@Cleaning Up No they do not. People don't eat low fat pasta and they certainly do not eat enough rice and potatoes. Cheese is full fat by definition there is no such thing as low fat cheese. Almost all yoghurt has too many calories in fat, while containing too much sugar. The ideal yoghurt would would be no fat, no sugar. It is hard to find though.

I will be 65 on Halloween and when I was 32 I was able to run marathons at a 6 :00 per mile pace... ate like a Spartan, worked full-time, raised a family and trained half as well as an Olympic athlete. I THOUGHT I knew how to eat properly and was lean at 5'10" 145 lbs... about 6% body fat. As I got older, stopped training and slowed down I put on nearly 100 pounds... guess how much of that was FAT storage?
My normal weight, not the super skinny runner weight was probably around 165 to 170, but I had gotten fatter slowly over the next decades even while eating the AMA recommended food pyramid selections. I do not have a sweet tooth and was not a potato chip and soda kind of guy. Four months ago I heard of the Ketogenic Lifestyle and began studying, listening to Dr. Eric Berg, BUTTER BOB, Tom DeLauer and Dr. Ken Berry with their short RUclips clips. During this time I also moved when the home I was renting an apartment in was sold so I did not start this "lifestyle" until ten weeks ago. I have easily moved to 2 meals a day and do this with a 16 to18 hour "intermittent fasting" window. I DO NOT feel like I am dieting and chose NOT to buy a scale and instead only use a tape measure. I have already lost 3 inches off of my waist and feel like I am 1/3 of the way to my goal of 185. I figure at that point I will get a pizza before deciding if that is low enough or should I reach for 175.
The first few weeks felt like a bit of a biological experiment where my gut bio evolved from a carbohydrate seeking medium to a keto adapted one. During those times I experienced bloating, sleep disturbances, changes in my bowel movements, stinky urine and calf muscle cramps (which were more likely a result of the many boxes I had to move) UNTIL I learned the simple foods and spices, like cream of tartar, to get the potassium and magnesium levels up. Oh, and Himalayan sea salt with its 84 additional nutrients. After my body adapted I LOST all hunger until I extended my 2 meal a day regiment from 16 hours to 18, which simply meant, IF YOU ARE NOT HUNGRY DON'T EAT silly! I am not at OMAD (one meal a day) yet but can easily envision progressing to a four hour eating window where I can dine to my heart’s content within the CONSCIENTIOUS nutritional guidelines that ketogenics provides but only plan on doing that if the tape doesn't move. Meanwhile, I am continually learning and fine tuning the keto lifestyle and giving away all of the garbage that I no longer wish to eat.
There is a downside to giving away unwanted food; it is the GUILT of knowing that it is UNHEALTHY! So, in order to combat that infliction I give them my MS Word document, which includes a 2-page overview and 6 additional pages of notes to help them save time and jump start this program should they wish to try this path instead of the crappy one they’re on. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND this lifestyle to EVERYONE... especially the sick and obese and am spreading the word to all of my friends, loved ones and people I see making poor choices at the grocery store. I have only two complaints and they have to do with Brussels sprouts and cauliflower crust pizza. Sorry, NO SALE on those two. I did come up with a kick ass Chili Meat Pie that cures that pizza itch of mine. I'm sure there's a keto cookbook out there but I enjoy my “Frankenstein” recipes and exploring the new journey. The GREATEST THING about this LIFESTYLE is that I AM NOT DIETING!!! I am walking 2 to 4 miles three to four times a week, NOT EVEN lifting weights or anything that physically exerting and still the pounds are melting off. I sleep well, feel fantastic and am still super psyched about this ten weeks into it. I have not hit a wall of any sort and feel confident that even if I do that I can make the minor adjustments needed to climb over it.

I remember when many people told me that eating more than one egg a day is bad for me, and that butter is bad; good thing I followed my gut feeling and still ate everything they told me that was bad for me.

The most frightening part of all of this is that inflammatory/toxic oils soybean, canola, etc. is in EVERYTHING. I almost bought avocado oil mayo but then decided to check the label. IT HAD SOYBEAN OIL listed as one of the first ingredients and avocado oil as one of the last. ugh. you have to be very diligent to be healthy in America bc we are our only advocates and that's with me being knowledgable of marketing ploys.

I've been fascinated by latest developments around food for quite some time and listened to/red numerous Ted-talks, interviews, medical studies and new ideas, though none offered such density of facts and "awe" moments per minute. I did Atkins for many years and never ate more than 20 grams of carbs per day. Tomorrow I'm starting the carnivore diet as done like Jordan Peterson and his daughter. Just beef, salt and water. Nothing else.

@@lt2339 I did that diet for two months or so. I ended up with gout in my right big toe but was able to cure that with several over the counter things like sour cherry extract and turmeric curcumin. I went back to a carb restricted diet like Adkins (just a keto diet). All's good, but meat only was way too boring.

I was vegan for three years for reproductive health reasons and only lost 15lbs. Ive been healthy keto with IMF and ADF for 8.5 months and Ive lost over 56lbs. I decided on Keto and Fasting after finding out that I have master gland issues which would explain over 35yrs of weight struggles and "yo yo" dieting. I went Keto and decide to Fast for hormonal reasons and after discovering that I am definitely carb sensitive. The 56lbs was obviously necessary, but just a glimpse at the weight loss differences.

Yep. Saturated fat is actually good. But there is also a factor of fat soluble vitamins, that probably wasn't taken into account in these original studies. You take butter and it naturally comes with vitamins A, D, E, B12 and so on. With corn oil you get only corn oil as long as it's not artificially enriched with vitamins.
There is no such thing as corn oil.
Try squeezing an ear of corn and see if you get even a trace of oil on your hand.

Excellent points on regenerative agriculture. I will need to look deeper into this.
And natural manure feed also the soil not only with the minerals that the artificial fertilizers mimics but artificial fertilizers does not enrich the actual structure of the soil but rather drain out the soil to often like a soft concrete like structure that tend to be less able to retain moisture as well absorbing water to deeper level after rains so whatever are grown there will be more sensitive to periods of droughts as well as rain.

Eating dietary fat whilst keeping dietary carbohydrate low LOWERS BLOOD TRIGLYCERIDES which LOWERS CVD. Elevated glucose triggers higher insulin, a fat storage hormone which triggers the formation of TRIGLYCERIDES before jamming it in to fat cells...the only way to keep those triglycerides from accumulating is to exercise like hell (creating a whole host of other unnecessary problems) or, to lower blood glucose.
Muscle mass is impacted by protein intake, my MUSCLE MASS is UNCHANGED on a higher fat diet as my protein intake is consistent with previous consumption. Muscles retain more fluid when you consume higher carbohydrate intake as it simply stores more water in the muscle tissue. This retained water IS NOT more muscle mass, can you follow that or do you need to read a study written by one of your academic buddies to figure that out for yourself?
The long lived civilisations close to the equater eat higher carb diets (no dispute from me on that) and those 30° or more above or below the equator, do better on high fat (a well known principle in genealogy longevity research)
N=1 is not science. Here's an N=1 for you. My grandmother has smoked for over 70 years and does not have lung cancer. Does that prove smoking is not a risk factor for lung cancer or does it prove N=1 is reserved for village idiots such as yourself
Virta did not reserve diabetes. It's an industry funded study promoting a 4000 dollar program for a diet. Any diet that does not cost 4000 dollars can also achieve those results. They're not impressive.

When we look at Ayurvedic medicine dating back centuries and look at their viewpoint, we will note that it isn't 'one diet fits all'. We are still trying to say this/that type of diet is right /wrong without clearly seeing that we can "individualize" nutrition in the same way that we are individualizing medicine. We have nutrigenomics to help support this process and many old wise traditional practices to pave the way. (Body type might factor in.) Studies are broad and helpful but they don't account for the individual. This being said, overall processed foods are not good for us!

Low fat sad diet, makes you sad and depressed and feel deprived all the time. I’ve done WW, eaten vegetarian, I know what makes me feel good. FAT! Alzheimer's patients are now being administered exogenous KETONES and MCT oil on a ketogenic diet (only by the enlightened specialists that is) and having major improvements in patient brain function. It staggers me that doctors and specialists are not given any training, and show very little interest in the role of diet in human disease (perhaps they might have to find another career if everyone ate better)
The SAD is not low fat. Cholesterol lowering medication may be necessary to reduce stroke. Be careful with fats as they almost always increase cholesterol. Almost all people who suffer strokes run high cholesterol > 200mg/dl combined with depressed HDL and higher blood pressure.

I'm trying a low carb/high healthy fats diet now. Seems to be working better for me than the high starch/low carb diet espoused by the likes of Dr. Mcdougal etc. Mainly plant based fats though, avocado/olives/nuts/seeds etc plus wild caught oily fish. Both diets include lots of vegetables, and I'm basically just reducing the starches from the high starch/low fat diet and replacing them with healthy fats. I note some people like Rich Roll thrive on a plant based diet, but not everyone can tolerate a lot of starches. Try both and see what works for you.
By the way Dr Hyman, any chance of getting Rich Roll on your podcast ? That would be an interesting conversation.

Years ago, when I worked as an RN in a hospital, I was fired for telling a heart patient that he would be better off using butter, instead of margarine. The science has been understood since the 1980s, however, commercial interests work hand in glove with hospital administrations.
I have a very good friend who is an unstable diabetic. Of course his dietitians have told him to eat.a high carb, low fat diet, even though we have known for many years that carbohydrates all break down to sugars. Now, he is on a slew of medications prescribed to fix the side effects of the other medications he is taking, yet, none of his so-called dietitians have even mentioned a ketogenic diet, except to tell him that it would not be safe.
Actually, the ketogenic diet was the standard medical treatment for many chronic conditions prior to the 1900's.

My father gave me a book written by an MD in 1928, The Human Body, he bought when he was a Biology major in college post WW2/GI Bill. He gave to me when I was 9 years old in 1960. In it, he said that medicine's greatest accomplishment up to that time was the diet for diabetics that was meat and vegetables. We had a severe diabetic in my family and so this stood out in the book for me. When insulin was discovered and made available 20 years later, the diabetic diets were chucked out the window. Medical Science had 3-4 decades and millions of patients and experience with a primarily meat diet with some vegetables that they knew worked. Medical doctors today are not doctors. Diabetes became a bigger problem in the 1890s with candy becoming more available. Doctors don't want to be told they have been 180 degrees wrong on every macronutrient, fat, protein and carbs. A good scientist is happy to find out where he is wrong. It explains their failures and frees them to alter their practice. Today's physicians are government/corporate whores and bureaucrats and only want the money and social status of being a doctor, both of which are about to experience a serious decline. They viciously defend the lies they have been taught with Soviet-style viciousness, which you experienced first hand. We have a big problem with heathens masquerading as educated/civil people. McCarthy was right in 1955, he just went about how he was doing his work, all wrong. God Bless for speaking the truth to your patient.

I am 69 years old, and I have been trying to heal/reverse my metabolic issues for at least 3 years, gradually eliminating things from my diet. I got some blood work done yesterday, and got the results today. A lot has improved. My blood pressure seems to be better, my thyroid is no longer slow. I am no longer pre-diabetic. I got my insulin level checked for the first time, and it is at 33.31. Since no doctor has ever bothered to check it before, and I didn't know to ask them to, I have no idea if it was higher before or not. I have been eating low carb for a good while, and my carbs are even lower now, than when I first started keto. I have been eating more fat lately, trying to get my insulin down. My labs are mostly in the normal range except for one or two things. However, my cholesterol is kind of high. My doctor seemed to understand about my high fat/low carb diet yesterday, but after she saw my cholesterol, she sent me a message that she wants me to cut down on the saturated fats. She wants me to cut down on all fats, but mostly the fat that is actually the healthiest. I'm not going to do it. I'm not a bit worried about the cholesterol. I detest the official dietary guidelines. I can't wait until they finally get changed. I am about to order a copy of Nina's book.

great! My mom is in a nursing home and I wish she was getting a nourishing diet. This is a wonderful goal. I am aware of this info and find good food sources, but that doesn't help her. I hope this will change all over the world. Ending CAFO operations as discussed here, would be wonderful. Serving meals based on this science would be great but put some industry food and big pharma out of business and that is a huge hurdle. The more people become aware, the better. We need a food revolution, not paris climate accords! It would mean new businesses in a thriving and wholesome way.

My friend told me she lives not far from a plant that makes vegetable oils. Two men who were cleaning one of the big vats died from chemical poisoning in those vats!!
When I asked my plumber what was the worst job he did, he said you would think it was blocked drains from excrement. He told me that wasn't the worst, but it was the block drains in commercial kitchens from fat.
You say to buy lard instead of veg oil, but every lard products in my area has additives in it. So I make it instead as well as tallow. I have been using that for a better part of a year.

When i was obease I would hide what I ate and would not talk about it as much. I was a closet cookie addict. My father in law was a public cookie eater and big soda drinker and died of pancreatic cancer 3 years ago. I now know why it was bad. I didn't understand the science back then of what happened to him. It was going to happen to me.

There still is a lot of grazing opperations. Approximately 85% of U.S. grazing lands are unsuitable for growing crops. Grazing cattle on this land more than doubles the area that can be used to raise food. Most all cattle are born and raised on these kind of cattle ranches, open, grazing, grass.
Definitely sending this information to both of my granddaughter's who are going into the medical profession . This was a great informational video.

When you look at the length of this video, it's likely you will have a tendency to just pass it by and look for something shorter. Huge mistake! There are so many very interesting facts in here that everyone should know that you owe it to yourself to watch it. And more important, take notes, then confront your physician when he or she says "fat is bad, you should follow the nutritional guidelines that are currently in place." Absolute bunk from your doctor. Get them up to speed or fire them is the best advice you could ever get.

There are many 'scientific' studies which say that 'low carb diet' means that the percent of carbs in the diet is "50% or less." 40-50 percent is NOT 'low carb.' The max should be under 20%.
what is missing from this interview is the mention of physical activity when talking about ancestors diets, and how other cultures eat . it is understandable that a hunter/gatherer can thrive on a high fat/meat diet without much illness. but in our sedentary society, im not sure such a diet would provide the same benefits. i like micheal pollans quote best : eat food, not too much, mostly plants

Biggest problems in science
1) Corellation is not causality
2) biased/externally funded studies
3) drawing conclusions out of unreliable data... 0.18% from unreliable data... that is like NOT EVEN an indication towards any point since the uncertanity of the statistics is in the xx percent range. Scientists should have way more schooling in statistics.
