With yesterday’s announcement that MyGo from Bangdream will have a joint live with girls band cry, it made me realize that both groups have this similar but yet different feelings with each other. Both shares the same vibe of not as happy go lucky with other anime girl band, all the members have their flaws, they argue and fight every 5 mins, in MyGo some members just straight up don’t like each other. Yet despite all of their differences, despite that the band can literally falls and break apart in a drop of a hat, they share this sense of comradely and a mutual respect for each other, at least for me made me more invested into the band more than for say Bocchi or K-on where the band is mostly build on friendships and the conflict within the band is less likely to happen. Overall I am so happy that girls band cry is getting so much love, this anime is that one anime that I look forward to watch every single week and tbh haven’t experienced that feeling in a long time, let’s hope season 2 can keep up with this quality and improve on it. Also an incredible performance by the main cast of seiyuu, I need to constantly remind myself that this is their first anime role yet all of them just bring their characters to life so well with their performances.
It is pretty impressive that there is not only they first role as VA but also the musicians themselves behind the irl Togenashi Togeari... so much talent

There is no right answer in life，be yourself and be proud of your choices. Nina really did it and accept all consequences of her choice, that;s why I love Nina 😀
Nina stays true to herself not just in the narrative but in a metatextual sense, she doesn't owe the audience a personality that's holistically endearing or someone you'd personally befriend in real life and because of that, her agency makes for such an interesting story.
I also like how sobsplease translated the lyrics in episode 3's insert song "Voiceless Fish", making "Yume ni afuretetatte shinjitsu" sort of meaning "truthfully, i was only dreaming" to "What's the point of dreaming if morning still wakes me" its so nicely written.
Nina is best girl because of tge swinging light scene.
Watching this video its like you put into words how I felt about GBC, and also made me recall my no. 1 fav show of all time Gurren Lagann, the rebellious spirit, the will to believe that you're right, being able to stand tall despite all the things the world throws at you, for me at least what drew me to these 2 shows compared to others that have the message of never giving up and being yourself, is how sincere they both showcase these themes. They dont just tell me not to give and be myself they themselves embody said themes. The production of GBC in itself is VERY similar to the situation of the band itself, the show's producers have no previous material to work with, the show is animated in CGI might I add and they're legit working with first time VAs and for Gurren Lagann's sincerity it lies in its sincerity its a show where the creators just put everything they find really cool into no matter how stupid and while doing this still able to blatantly show its love for itself and its beliefs. Sorry for the long comment but its just that this video made me realize why i was drawn to gbc and how it reminded me of another show, anyways now watch mygo jk

Everything from episodes 1-7 slowly building up Momoka's projection towards Nina, and how much she sees her younger self on her, just to collapse entirely with episode's 8 confession was one of the BEST developments on internal conflict I've ever seen, Momoka is easily in my top 5 characters of all time, I love this show so much... .. ..
I hope we see an episode on Rupa's backstory someday. Toei, give me season two and my life is yours.

And then binge watched the show cuz it surpassed all my expectations 😭 it's the first 3D anime in 2D style that doesn't make me throw up with characters that have a strong personality and gosh is the music slapping. 👏🏼

Togetoge is so inspiring. I liked how they didn't end with a miraculous victory over Diamond Dust because the point was being themselves. Not going for the silver bullet to get viral
I only watched a few episodes, but I loved every second of it. The subs at the time were just .... so .... atrociously bad that I couldn't stand it. It's really a shame that a show like this didn't get licensed for the west. After watching your video i guess there's no choice left. I've got to watch this ASAP.

@@redjoker and also, i just came back to watching this video the second time (after i rewatch the anime again) and this part here 9:00 where nina is slamming momoka towards the wall, i can't fully restate what she said, but the gist of it was, "i'm not something you can't pile into your past memories, i am a person" just hits fucking different mate my god-

This show is easily my top 3 or even top1of the year.....a year that have already 3 masterpieces of shows already (Frieren, Dungeon Meshi and Jellyfish can't swim in the night) and yet....this one might be my favorite........a CG anime? from.........TOEI ANIMATION?.........the Fuuuuu.........yep this one is a MIRACLE.....the CG is actually BEAUTIFULY animated, I love all characters movement and expressions, the story of all characters, all so damn relatable and real but yet FUN, Nina is angry as F, Momoko is mature and depress but true to herself, Subaru is a Liar, lie to herself and her Grandma, Rupa is......no she is actually perfect best girl.....well like to drinks a LOT (and is depress for the loss of her family....damn it show stop making me cry) and Tomo is a perfectionist to the point of been a BITCH to everyone, but she is just too passionate to get things right.....I'm a comicbook artist, this life is hard and see so many facets I relate in a single show is insane, non of these girls have a trait of MOE, TSUNDARE or all that cliche anime crap we have to seat many times, they are flaw as F in a good relatable way, but passionate about what they really want to do, yet life is NO FAIR and most times they ended losing yet, keep going.....the writing is so good..............and yet is the MUSIC....holly cow, this soundtrack is PURE ADRENALINE FIRE, is like every song is a banger after banger after BANGER, AFTER BANGER.....how is this again from TOEI ANIMATION? I assume they sold their creative light long ago to just do big franchises continuations with non of the passion they once have, but here we are with them making ANIME OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE on a stylish beautiful animation, smart as F writting, real and relatable flaw women struggling with life and BANGER OF A SOUNDTRACK..........................this is the TOEI I used to love back in my childhood days, the one that give us classics after classics, we miss you TOEI, WELCOME BACK. Seriously this show is my gem of this year.
Can you do a "Explaining the Meaning Behind" Karakara? this one bocchi the rock ed song. i think its a pretty good song with a certain depth in the lyrics
My only disappointment is that at the end of the show they didn't actually do anything with the love confession at all but acted like it never happened cuz it's never brought up again

Season 3 also finished dropping last week and... I cannot properly put it into words. It was, by far and way, the most any piece of media affected me emotionally. Ever. To the point I felt troubled breathing.
The very small summary is, it follows Kumiko through her 3 year journey with her high school wind ensemble, which is chasing gold at the national competition.
But it's just... Dozens of super endearing characters. The depiction of the stress of being in a super competitive environment, juxtaposed to friendship and the love for music.
A love letter to interpersonal relationships, punctuated by heart wrenching conflicts and the most heart warming (non romantic) confessions of love.
At the same time, especially with Kumiko and Mizore, a super impactful soul searching exercise, a journey to understanding yourself, of your inner feelings being forcefully exposed and being forced to drop the walls around yourself, so you CAN be yourself.
Beautifully written dialogue, with beautiful music, all wrapped up in some of the best animation to come out of Kyoto Animation (as I'm sure you're aware that's saying something). It is absolutely gorgeous.
Oh, and of course, as any good anime, some INSANELY good yuri moments :P
What I can't properly explain, is how everything comes out to be more than the sum of its parts. More than any other show, I felt... Almost as if I was part of the team. I felt so happy when they succeeded, and so utterly destroyed when they failed, as if it was happening to me.
Girls band cry is positively amazing, there's no denying that. But...
As of right now, season 3 stands as the best rated anime of the year (imo, the first two seasons are just as good, and severally underrated).
I wholeheartedly agree, and considering the tastes you have exposed to us through your videos... I'm quite confident it will take the AOTY spot from your heart to itself.

Though I was still wondering something : the group don't want to be conventional, Nina says in the concert on the last episode : "you are rebels that are against the flow, and I like nonconformist like you are" (Probably not 100% accurate, I translated it from my native language subtitles). But outside of the scenario and I guess the lyrics of the songs, are their songs really going against the trend ?
I'm not an expert at what I'm talking about so I'm probably wrong, but to me their music doesn't sound different from other JPop rock, from what Nina said I was expecting the songs to be more unconventional, maybe adding metal and screaming in their music ? or being more experimental ?
And don't get me wrong I love this anime and the musics !! The musics are really really good, it's just that I don't hear what makes their music different
(This could also be a "me" problem, I listen to a lot of genre of musics and I love experimental musics, maybe my ears are used to unconventional things, if their song are truly different from the norm in rock, then I guess it's just that I can't hear it ?)
I don't think their sound is out of the norm, because they say many times they're just going for rock, it's honestly more on the lyrics, their lyrics stand out so much because they're pretty raw and real, which makes their songs different

I feel like anime of the year is a bit of an exaggeration, there's far too much competition. Good show though, it's really unique
