    My best friend in high school had a 1957 Beetle. He didn't have a starter for over a year. We parked on hills when we could. But I still ended up push-starting that car more often than not. I suspect that my arms are at least two inches shorter today because of those push starts. Fond memories.

    Well-played clawhammer is such unalloyed joy. It makes you want to dance, but at a slow mellow pace. You can see so easily how it kept the mountain folks entertained of a Friday evening.

    1st car that I helped completely rebuild from the crankshaft out was a 1957 black hardtop Beelte, did it in 1971-72, in my neighbor's back yard. Taught me everything I needed to know about cars until electronic ignition became the standard. It was fun to work on a car born the same year as I.

    ah wonderful, the simplisity of a Beetle...look at that dash !
    and brings feelings of a more relaxed time- banjo at the beach,
    and yes there is the proof - there is room in the back seat of a Beetle
    for both a person and a banjo !

    Deja vu all over again... I loved my red VW bug though driving it during the winter in Minnesota was an adventure. It had a gas heater that seemed to have a bit of a leak, so there was always a touch of gas smell in the air... but the heater worked! I loved how small it was which made parking near the University of Minnesota campus easier. The problem was the bumpers were so low that I kept having the front hood crunched. That was a pain in the butt. Thanks for the memories Josh... and for the wonderful music... as always.

    joke :
    Josh left his banjo in the back set and took off the view the sun set . After an hour or so it happened, he got to see a beautiful sunset! It was at that moment he realized he left the windows down and the banjo in plain sight ! Josh loved that banjo , and an hour or longer left in plain sight for everyone to see . (' I Hope Noone Has Stolen it ! ') he thought as he ran back to his VW bug. He makes it back and is breathing heavily as he looks in the back set and sees...
    Another four Banjos . LOL
    Your awesome Josh . Thanks for the entertainment all the years.

    Wonderful sounds from that banjo! Your video brings back memories of my first car, a '61 VW Bug. It had no gas gauge so while you were driving it would run out of fuel and sputter. Quickly you would reach for the floor and flip a lever, which tilted the gas tank giving you 1 more gallon of gas!

      @@lucasratti How difficult was it for you as a guitarist to switch to the banjo? Is it a steep learninv curve?

    • @lucasratti
      @lucasratti 9 месяцев назад

      @@ILoveMagic15 I wouldn't be able to tell you as I've not really tried to play it properly as a banjo player would, I just strum it and pick it like a guitar. The chord shapes you do have to learn, that takes some time for sure but it's pretty straightforward and logic can help you alongside. For example the chord shapes, you can move a chord up a few frets to get the same chord af few notes up, and identifying the third will make you know the minor or major version of a chord you learnt by raising or lowering the third, so on and so forth. One thing that can confuse you is that the highest string on a 5 string banjo is where the lower string would be on a guitar. Like a uke if you've ever played one. I think you will be fine if you put your mind to it, plus it seems you want it so go for it !

    • @lucasratti
      @lucasratti 9 месяцев назад +1

      Maybe it wasn't clear what I said about the strings. If you were to look at it while you hold it to play, it goes like:
      G(highest note)
      D(lowest note)
      G(2nd lowest note)
      B(3rd lowest/3rd highest note)
      D(2nd highest note)

    This made me think of the Ben Vaughn CD Rambler 65. He recorded the entire CD in the car

    Might I suggest doing a James Taylor cover? Maybe Blossom? Or whatever. Loved your sweet baby James with Carson.

    Love the frailing style but something about the acoustics seems a bit buggy? And no worries; nothing easier to push start than an old beetle!
