    I was an MSG in Prague and Montevideo back in the mid '80's. Great duty. I have to admit the training looks more intense than in my day. I guess because planet earth is a much more dangerous place now. Also, you didn't have to be an infantryman to be an MSG. Marines of any MOS could volunteer for the duty if they were at least a LCPL with 2 years in service and a clean record. And yes, make it through the school at Quantico, which was still tough back then. Only about half of the Marines that started graduated and went to embassies abroad.

      Two questions: As MSG's are seconded to the State Department, does the State Department reimburse the Corps for the cost of training & staffing said embassies?
      Also, I see that they only carry small arms. In light of the bombings in Kenya & Tanzania plus the attack in Libya, has the State Department ever considered adding M240's, M27's, M2's or Mark 19's to the TO&E of the detachments. (Former Soldier here, I don't know if TO&E is just an Army term or if it applies to the USMC as well. It stands for Table of Organization & Equipment.)

    • @Joshjames1234
      @Joshjames1234  11 месяцев назад +1

      Congrats! You are going to have a great time in boot camp and on MSG duty. The memories last a lifetime. I don't feel qualified to say what would happen in your case, because they did not assign new Marines on MSG duty until I left the service in 2017, so this process is entirely new (for me). Before, you had to have 18 months time on station (doing your normal job) before doing MSG duty as a special duty assignment.
      I would clarify with your recruiter what your PRIMARY/SECONDARY MOSs are. If you either fail MSG school or successfully complete the program, you'll have to go somewhere to meet your service requirement. It sounds like you are signing a 5 year active duty contract (interesting!), so you certainly have to have an assigned MOS that is different from MSG.
