I started recovering old 1930s and 40s bicycle saddles, I've been using old worn couch leather free on the side of the road, I have some friends and we all keep an eye out for leather furniture dumped around town and whenever we find one we go back and skin it. I have lots of cushion size pieces for saddles and lots of smaller pieces I use for rat hammocks
This is a great tip for me. I just started leather-crafting two months ago and wanted to start using chrome tan leathers. Been using veg-tan and practicing tooling on those. Thanks so much hopefully the stores out here in LA are kind like in SD.
I'm all about using as much of the animal as possible. Respect them in the entirety. Great advice. I got some leather samples while waiting for my saffiano leather to arrive great idea.
Thanks for the tip man! I appreciate it! I just got a hole plastic bag full of alligator, crocodile and ostrich scarp leather from New Orleans. It was not free but you can get so creative with the different scrap pieces ☺️☺️☺️
Hey RideAllegretto, thank you for watching my video. Here is San Diego i went to a couple high end furniture stores like Scan Furniture House of San Diego, Plummer's as well, Furniture Divano. As well as custom furniture makers. Sense they are making furniture unlike any other then they use $$$ leather. Ask for scraps they have left over.
Great advice. Things that get thrown away that are perfectly useable and can make very nice smaller goods.
I agree 100%

What the heck is a rat hammock?
@@nicholasphillips5406 a hammock for rats to sleep in, hangs from the top of the cage. I have pet rats, and an opossum

Hey around what time of the year should I ask a furniture store this?
About a couple of weeks before the seasons change would be my suggestion.
Use a steam iron to steam the sticker then pull the paper off. Then use saddle soap to remove the adhesive.
What furniture store did you get the leather from in the video?
