@@BattousaiHBr caffeine is arguably the most important ingredient in pre-workout. There are other ingredients that may help with pump and concentration, but its caffeine that keeps you going. The only reason to take a premade preworkout without caffeine is if you're working out a few hours before sleeping. Otherwise, if you're buying preworkout without caffeine, you're pretty much just wasting your money and being a sucker to either advertising or simply a bad product.
The biggest advantage of having a bag of caffeine is allowing you to control the measurement of caffeine, instead of an estimated amount removed from a source such as a coffee bean or even a premade preworkout mix. I take preworkout sometimes and I don't know if that 1 serving is scooping exactly the perfect ideal ratio of whatever the serving is suppose to be. For example, if 1 serving scoop was suppose to be 200mg of caffeine and 100mg of everything else, I don't know if I scooped up 150mg of caffeine and 150mg of everything else.

Yeah no. This video is nice and informative with great visuals, but it barely even scratches the surface of sympathomimetic toxidrome or caffeine mechanism of action, whether you take college-level physiology or are in medical or other health professions school. People complain about their professors, but chances are they probably don't do that bad a job when you take into account the sheer volume of material that they have to condense and organize for you to learn in a short amount of time. Exceptions exist sure, but at least here in the US higher/professional education is largely of very high quality.
This one is scary, because it wasn't just someone being stupid, but merely negligent. It seems like an honest mistake that anyone can do while not paying attention.
Funny that you consider negligence (while dealing with dangerous objects or substances) to not be stupidity. Hannah Gutierrez-Reed would agree.
EDIT: Since people are morons, I have added the part in parentheses. I suspect this will make no difference to the idiotic responses because so many people are the very kinds of idiots who would do something like this (to someone else), then claim "everyone makes mistakes." If they even admit fault at all.

What's scary about this is that this isn't the typical case of the patient being stupid and landing in the ER. It sounds like this guy had a really good head on his shoulders. When I was in a worse place mentally, I purposefully overdosed on caffeine pills after just one made me feverish. It was an odd impulse and I still don’t get why I did it. I took two more in the morning, four more at lunch, and eight more a few hours after that, re-dosing whenever my symptoms eased off. 2-4 left me dizzy, nauseous, and shaking all over. After I took 8, the nausea + my inability to stop my muscles from contracting resulted in me vomiting all the water out of my body. Sometimes my abdomen would stay clenched for so long that I would get lightheaded from a lack of oxygen, because I couldn’t inflate my lungs. If my parents hadn’t found the bottle of caffeine pills hidden in my tissue box and taken me to the ER, I would have died of either dehydration or seizures.
I get weird when I’m reminded of it. Like now. Consider this a cautionary tale, I guess. Don’t be a dumbass and poison yourself just because you think the poison’s nonlethal. Anything can be lethal given the right circumstances.

Two lessons for everybody here: always label everything carefully, and don’t feel bad if you overdose on caffeine compared to a guy whom overdosed on 35,000 mg of caffeine-I once went to the emergency room for a high heart rate due to dehydration and a lack of potassium probably partly due from caffeine, although I can now show others this video and say that I’m not as addicted to caffeine as others might like to say.
i'll drink to that!
I once went to the hospital just from the noradrenaline alone caused by a panic attack caused by stress of tests at the university. I never had a panic attack before, my heart rate increased without reason and I got worried and went driving to the hospital (not a wise idea, but still, I was driving when it happened).
They ended up injecting rivotril (aka benzodiazepine) on my veins to calm me down. I ended up losing the test obliviously, I couldn't drive after being sleepy from it. So I got up from the hospital, not in a sane mind, walked out, and ended up sleeping on the car. I don't know why they dispensed me, I guess they didn't knew I came by driving.
The car was parked without the hand brake and I almost crushed a person that leaned on the car. That was stupid, don't lean on others cars, you never know if they are parked correctly, and it only needs a gentle push to crush someone, I woke up from their cursing, even on rivotril I couldn't have a deep sleep.
All of that without abusing caffeine, but I got the same secondary effects described on the video.

@@rayres1074 Typically it's done with scannable labels on containers and tubes. My lab currently doesn't have a system like that so we need another chemist to verify any label before we apply it. Hi Chubby Emu! Me and my brother are huge fans of your vids. A week ago he unfortunately fell ill due to sweet potato poisoning (we grow our own in our backyard) and the memes we do when he was hospitalized kept him in high spirits and laughing it off. We joked about how he will end up in a chubby emu video, a man ate homegrown sweet potatoes, this is what happened to his organs.
Luckily he has made a full recovery now. Cheers!
How did he get sweet potato poisoning? I'm glad he made a full recovery!
I also got potato poisoning definitely not as bad as you’re brother, but it felt like I had just chugged a fifth of whiskey and spent the rest of the night throwing up over the toilet.
You got to "cure" root vegetables. Basically dry out the skins. .
glad it's a full recovery and not *a* recovery
as hobby gardeners we should probably steer clear off root vegetables.. I never had the guts to plant carrots, potatoes etc and your comment definitely reaffirms it. safer with tomatoes, eggplants, fruits etc
It is really a good ending of this type of story when you hear the narrator saying "he/she was able to make a full recovery." It just puts smile on my face, and lightens up my heart, every time I hear him saying it.
Yeah -Mr White- Medical Staff,
Yeah Science!
Still, you cant help but wonder if the "full" recovery was just NOW, but the damage that was done can have long term later negative effects and they might not be obvious then they were caused by what happened. His heart, kidneys, organs, brain were all negatively affected and damaged.
It’s so depressing when he says “‘A’ recovery”.
Yeah, I wasn't sure if this guy was gonna make it when he was talking about the dead muscle remnants messing up his kidneys and how his heart kept stopping.
He took a dose thousands of times than the one needed to die,I think he meant 5700mg and even so it would already be waaaaaaaay to much,as in the sites I consulted varied from 50mg to 180 mg as the fatal dose of caffeine, now compare that with 57000mg!!
Thanks man, I was just about to do this

Caffeine has always been easier for me to process due my ADHD. In many ways, caffeine is a good substitute for my medication since while the medication targets parts of the brain that lack dopamine, caffeine is more of a shotgun which could still hit those parts of the brain that need the stimulation. While I don’t take caffeine as much anymore, this is a very fascinating watch
Wonderful work!!
I love the representation of hyperglycemia as millions of tiny sugar cubes floating through your bloodstream!

If you're going to do this, consider color-coding your ingredients. Whenever you mix your stuff, make sure you have a chart that clearly spells out your own color code, and make sure all labels are clear, visible, and legible. Even then, you're not just paying for pre-mixed supplements at the store, you're also paying for the guarantee that they're going to be mixed CORRECTLY.
Yeah I thought this. If he stored all the white powder in white containers it’s no wonder he got mixed up.
Carpenters have a good rule: measure twice, cut once. Critical steps should be done with extra scrutiny.
If this is based off the case i think it is, the problem wasn't labeling. There was an issue with the weight scale. Your idea of clear colour coded labels is a very good idea. Calibration of tools matters just as much as clear labels.
The FDA in the states doesn't garantee things on supplements. We often find measurements are off and in some cases the ingredients aren't always transparent.
@@Ellie-gp9dg you can misread a label but you can't mistake a color
If you're going to supplement with caffeine, buy it in pill form, not powder form, and leave it in its original packaging. You'll never confuse it for your BCAAs because it's in a completely different form.

Fr I had to stop drinking coffee because it was giving me bad panic attacks so this is like my worst nightmare lol
If your heart freaks out after a cup of coffee, you probably might have anger issues or anxiety. For me, punching a bag for a good while lets out the aggression and now I can tolerate more caffeine.
Seriously, the other day I made some coffee from a concentrate after only having had tea for a while and it hit me all at once and for about 10-20 seconds I felt like I was dying and got crazy tunnel vision and couldn't move. Absolutely bizarre, I thought I was having a stroke. It's never happened to me before.

Yeah some of these don't endbthey way he presents them
I think he should include a dsiclaimer with the word "full recovery" (or he already has done that in some of the videos) as this doesn't mean long term effects that do not yet show are impossible.
So he could still have damaged something longterm, but at the moment have no problem and seem healthy again.
A bit like the video about the girl that acidentally ate her dads eddibles and made a "full recovery".
Universities in europe have shown that non adults that are exposed to a single use of THC (and that have a predisposition for psychosis or depression) can devellop a psychosis or depression. Single use! But it doesn't mean that that shows upt immediately 5 minutes after the exposure to the substance. And so it can look like a full recovery for the moment, and a few days or weeks later you got a problem long term.
@@nirfz Sometimes he says "recovery" rather than a "full recovery". Maybe he doesn't intend to distinguish them, but saying "full recovery" implies that long-term damage is minimal, while just "recovery" implies that the patient may still suffer from lingering effects of their medical problem.

For heavy stimulant overdoses(cocaine/amphetamines),the first line of treatment is IV diazepam(a benzodiazepine). I would imagine the same could be done for a severe caffeine OD since benzos rapidly reduce electrical activity in the brain. They basically reverse the effects of stimulants. Although at a dosage like the one he took I could imagine additional treatments might still be necessary.
At such a high dosage though, benzos can only occupy the receptors for a few hours at most before tapering off. In heavy overdoses like caffeine at that amount, you're only adding more byproducts that will put more strain on the liver as the enzymes ( Cytochrome P450) are constantly working to try and metabolise it which could cause further damage to the liver, renal system (worst case scenario) or even have less effectiveness. I'd hedge a bet and say that certain stimulants have a very short half and are excreted quite quickly from the body, and thus drugs like benzos are applicable when given through an IV
You make a good point saying that it could be applicable to a smaller scale caffeine overdose
@@shad0wVA There a benzodiazepines with a very long half life (12-36 hours), which could prove useful in a situation like this.
@@wagwanpiftingwhatsurbbmpin1673 Yes.Diazepam’s is over 40 hours so there will be plenty of time for the stimulant to leave the system,Caffeine especially. (4-6 hour half life I believe.)
@@justinscaffidi3570 at that high a dose i imagine processing that would take longer tho, no? bc it wouldnt be used up since u have a limited amount of neurotransmitters it can bind to
@@uuh4yj43 benzodiazepines bind to different receptors and release different neurotransmitters than caffeine. And the more you take the more binding affinity it will have so it will just be more powerful. And since it’s going into the bloodstream directly there won’t be any delay. It’s after long periods of time of continued use that the receptors can desensitize. I highly advise against that however because benzos can be extremely addictive if not only taken on occasion. If you have anxiety from all stims in general look into low dose ssris.
I can't imagine how awful that would be. I've had s few times when I was a kid where I had just a little too much caffeine and I felt absolutely awful. Taking as much as he did must had been a truly miserable experience.
I don’t think miserable is the right word i believe you meant horrific.

The feeling of doom, the tachycardia, the sweating, the excessive anxiety, the confusion, everything described here in the video is correct. Ooh, grab me some nachos while you're there!

I had a similar experience with too much caffeine.
This was around February of 2023. I worked for a company that supplied vending machine snacks and repair services for vending machines. I woke up at 5 in the morning and clocked in at 7. During this time, I had to cover a job for someone in a giant refrigerator for two weeks. I hated this job, but still had to get through it. It was exhausting and sometimes maddening.
For context, this particular company also made in house sandwiches, hot dogs and other foods like that in large bulk, sometimes up to 800 at a time. Throughout the eight hour shift, I had to sort out all of them to assigned drivers who would deliver these food items the following morning. Math was never my strong suit, and working in an industrial sized fridge, along with having to count these sandwiches one by one, and as an autistic person, it was very maddening to me, and left me mentally and sometimes physically exhausted. This was a big fridge, enough for a small crowd of people to squeeze into.
For the first three days, it was hell. Then, there was something I saw in our break room vending machine: Java Monster.
After seeing that, I guzzled a can a day. Then on week two, it was two a day, along with any mountain dew I had to drink with lunch. I think you can tell where this is going.
One day, I was on my laptop, and was watching a video. I forget what it was. Suddenly, I felt my head spinning a little, and my body was shaking like a generator, and my heart rate was pumping out like a machine gun. Tumbling down the stairs, I thought I was going to have a heart attack and pleaded to mom. She knew what was happening, having 22 years in the medical industry. She told me to sit down and shake it off, and let it wear off.
It thankfully eventually did, but I had health problems over the course of two weeks, along with the effects of not eating enough.
I obviously did not have it as bad as this guy, but I am telling you now, caffeine poisoning is real, and it is agony. I have never touched another energy drink since.
My experience was a long time ago when i was a pizza delivery driver. I had to work a double which is basically all day. I didn't sleep well the night before, so worried that a bit of sleep dep would put me at risk, I started pounding energy drinks. Caffeine apparently doesn't have an effect on me as far as being "awake" and alert. I started off with 2 red bulls, nothing. Then got a Rockstar. Then got a Monster. Then got a 5 hour energy. Basically desperate to just have me alert and focused at the days' job in hand.
My last delivery of the night, I'm at a gated apartment complex but they never gave us the code. That's when my heart started dangerously racing as if I needed to at least get out and move around. Sorta panicking. Finally some other car comes and opens the gate, I drop off the food, rush back to the store and rush home because it's starting to get worse. Talk about jitters x10.
I had to slam down a few beers (I know that's not safe) but it being a depressant, I finally was able to just relax and not feel like I was gonna go into cardiac arrest
