This video sums it up perfectly...so much of the music sucked early in the decade. A few broke through the crap but after the previous two decades, it was tough to listen.

I totally agree. The entire approach to recording and music changed. It was previously about musicians in the studio trying to capture a magic performance. In the 80s producers began assembling electronic sounds to create the illusion of a performance. Fast forward to today and there’s literally no human musicians on most popular music. It’s so sad. Thanks for watching!

Hey Jon. this is off topic but I would be interested in hearing your take on some of these AI generated Elton videos that are out there, perhaps that could be a future video. Thanks again stay well.

That's a great idea for an episode! I've listened to several and find them to be terrible. If you send a link and I'll give you my impression. These are my general thoughts: I can't imagine anyone who is a true lover of music listening; other than curiosity. Personally I find them grotesque. I can't think of a better word. To my ears they sound completely artificial. Even if I didn't know they were fake; I'd know there was something fishy going on. More than anything they just sound bad. I've spent so much of my life listening to the original artists that I know every fine detail and nuance of their voices. I actually listen to "vocal only" tracks a lot. I just listened to an AI generated "Elton John sings Circle of Life with 70s voice" and it sounds nothing like Elton's young voice. It sounds like the 90s vocal with slightly less edge; but nothing like he sounded in the 70s. I listened to a couple of parody things such as "Elton John song about hair" and that just sounds like a mess. I listened to "The Beatles sing Bohemian Rhapsody" and it vaguely sounds like Paul's voice; but the music track sounds like the original Queen version. I find all of it to be offensive. If someone admires and honors the work of their favorite artist the last thing we want to do is give these videos our attention. Popular music has already become a trash heap as it is, so I guess it doesn't make any difference to most people. But if we truly respect the work of these great artists we should not support the nefarious efforts of those who are bastardizing the name and legacy of those artists. That's my general feeling. I'd be curious to know which specific tracks you've heard and what your thoughts are?

I have heard the videos you mentioned and I agree, there is one where he sings an Adele song {something about wine} that wasn't to bad. Full disclosure though I am 61 and stuck on all classic rock I don't know any new music, lol. Having said that it would be interesting to hear 70s Elton sing some other artists songs from the 70s. I am currently working on a list of my 20 favorite Elton deep cuts. Thanks for replying I looked forward to the next episode,@@JonBlackstone

Agreed. There is some great stuff recorded in the 80s. But compared to the two decades before the ‘80s felt like the end of popular music as an artform. The decline was so fast and profound. Thanks for watching!

I happen to love Stand Back. But your other choices are spot on. Especially The Heat Is On. The title itself is a one of the most horrid cliches, and the tune is so simplistic it's insulting. As much as I love a lot of 80s music, you're right that it was an era of embarrassment for a large handful of artists.

Have to respectfully disagree with some of these choices..."I'm Still Standing"...really??? Not just my favorite Elton song but my favorite song, period. "Radio Gaga" is a great song and I love "Stay the Night" by Chicago. . These artists were just keep up with the trends of the era and I'd take them any day over '90s grunge.
