Thank You for your comments to the haters at the start. At 73 it’s harder to do the things we have to do, also as a 22 year Naval Vet. I do appreciate that you give up your time to help others learn. As my grandfather told me,” Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” May you and yours be well, be safe & happy. Regards from a Seasoned Squid
I really appreciate that and your service as well! Thanks for the positive feedback and supporting the channel. As long as people like you are here, we’re gonna keep on going.. Have a good day sir 🔥
I like the way you guys think I'm 60 years old and still learning. the way things are going in our Beloved Country it's good to have as much common sense survival skills as possible. paying attention from South Carolina. keep up the good work Brothers !!!
JJ “Suffering with Jason. I got to stop hanging out with that guy.” Lmao. I get the point of the exercise. You’re right people are living to comfortably and don’t challenge themselves or test their limits to put their skills to the test or how they will perform when things SUCK. “Embrace the Suck” Learn what works and doesn’t. Above ALL LEARN from those Failures. Yes, I too believe it’s important teach the kids/children/preteens basic survival skills, so it builds confidence and the knowledge keeps getting passed on. Keep up the Great Work JJ & Jason. Those that want to expand their tool box will consume what you guys are putting out there and the others will just move along eventually and bother others. Salute to you Brother 🫡 Thank you for your service to your community and on here. USMC / EMS
We appreciate what you’re throwing down here and the support of the mission.. Thanks for sending out some positive vibes.. We need that kind of feedback to know we’re still on track.. Thanks for your continued support 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Yep! Another GREAT video JJ!! I felt a smile spread across my face just about as big as yours, at the mention of seeing the deer, you jumping up to hurry and grab the camera for us, your viewers, to revel in the moment with you. THAT was beautiful to witness. Thank you, for all you do and continue to bring to your listeners. Still so much to learn, for me there is. But I am loving and appreciating the journey. Especially with you and Jason as my Guides!! And YES PLEASE, do a long, extended, full video with your sons!!!! It would be so awesome, fulling and EPIC to watch.
Awesome! Glad you liked it!! Thanks for your continued support and I appreciate the kind words and positive vibes… Just told the boys they were gonna have to get out there with me.. The fans demand 😂
@FueltheFires damn right, the only fans want more video's! Lmao! Keep fueling the fire! Knowledge is power....and yall are fuct vs me! T-shirt material! Your welcome! Fuel the Fire! 👊🔥👊
Hey, I appreciate you and your video first time listener. I like the message you sent out about helping somebody that needs help and not doing the opposite. We need more people like you and more people to look after each other. Thanks again.
40:35 "Coffee, sunrise, deer!" Love the enthusiasm and excitement for just the little things in nature. I was out in the woods a while back at night and saw 3 deer walk right by me, and caught a meteor shower just 5 minutes later, all while relaxing in a hammock. I must admit, I had just as much of a grin on my face as you did, despite the freezing cold seeping through my hammock. Embrace the suck, and stay positive!
@@FueltheFires It's very kind of you to take the time to reply personally. I was just sitting out in my 3ac wooded backyard thinking about some of the things you spoke about in your video. I live in Florida on the edge of 80,000 acres of protected state land, much of it swamp. I started out of habit doing something that I frequently do when I'm in the woods. I call it gazing it is sort of like meditating. I sit unmoving with unfocused eyes and an empty mind looking at nothing and before long the animals around become used to my presence and start to come out. My peripheral vision catches all their movements much better than if I was looking around trying to see things moving. You may already do something like this as you are obviously a skilled woodsman but I just thought I should mention it in case you had not tried something like this before.
@@MyakkahatcheeBonsaiNo problem! I think the comment section is where all the good stuff happens anyway.. It’s the bridge between us and you! As far as your method, I believe in that whole heartedly!! When I was a professional tracker I did this exact thing- it really shakes everything off (stress included) and puts you “in the moment”.. Couldn’t agree more- Good stuff 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
The MSS Bivy is money my summer/spring sleep system is that with a woobie or swagman roll, also not sure if you remembered but I had mentioned on the last video I was planning to do the same with my son and you said go for it, and we are since last weekend we’ve been working on skills to show him everyday in preparation he’s 8 almost 9, but thanks for the content yours is definitely underrated.
That’s awesome! You just put a smile on my face- love to read that.. Good for y’all 👊🏻.. I really appreciate the kind words and giving me the update on that.. That’s AWESOME 🔥🔥🔥
Talking about pack weight I try to go as light as possible after 20+ years in the Army I got lots of aches and injuries, plus in the military we were taught ounces equals pounds and pounds equals pain so care just what you need and not a bunch of useless stuff, so I’m with you.
Right on.. Couldn’t agree more.. I appreciate you posting this.. I feel it too after 14 years of carrying a 72 lb pack as a SAR-1.. My ruckin’ days are over 😂 Thanks for watching 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
I'm at 9kg minimal pack and have everything I need to be comfortable. I'm 45 and feeling it in my joints so light is the sensible way to be, those who talk shit will wish they listened when they get a bit older.
Right you are.. Started to really feel it around 45.. I had carried a large pack for so long and it caught up with me like a boss.. Of course these younger bucks will do the same thing and end up the same way 😂
Great video , its the simple things , just did an overnighter couple weeks ago , went down low 30's , couple wool blankets slept in my clothes see how i could do , its a blast , wish i had more ppl like us to go out with here in ky
Thank you! Yeah, it definitely helps having others around.. I enjoy both going solo and with others as well.. Thanks for watching and glad to hear you’re out there doing the stuff of self-reliance 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Great video, brother. My Pappa taught me a lot about camping when I was a kid but never went camping with us. I asked him why, and he said in his early 20s he camped for 6 months in the mountains of Okinawa. When he worked for the United States Marne Corp. 😂😂. He also told me he had to eat spam for 19 days straight when they didn't get their supplies dropped to them. As a kid, I had no idea what he was talking about. I just thought it was cool.
I fold the bottom corners of the bivy and the envelope over and tape them in place. so that a "mummy' configuration is created. This reduces hear loss from your legs and reduces (a lot) how much debris you need to stuff between the bivy and the envelope. You need about 3x as much debris under you as over you. especially when the debris is deciduous leaves. Said leaves crumble into dust very easily, every time you turn over, you're grinding them into bits. Dry grass or mosses work much better for this job.
@@FueltheFires coffin? I said nothing about a coffin. I can get out of the bivy and its envelope with a single sweep of my Cold steel shovel, which I carry with no handle. The 1.5 lb bivy and 2 drum liners, 2.3 ozs each, suffices down to 30F, with just cammies the two 1/2 lb each camo nets, and the two 1/4 lb bugnet "suits', all from amazon. I wear those things as longjohns. If I add debris or the 2 sets of (different types) of milsurpe polypro longjohns, I gain 10F mor degrees of warmth. Those things (and the bivy and envelope) can be worn as clothing, I use both a 1 lb buttpack and a 1.5 lb daypack. That way, I can empty out the packs, stuff them with debris and use them as sleeping pads, normally up in a 1 lb net-hammock. The hammock is made of a 50x10 ft monofilament gillnet, 2" mesh. So it can feed me if need be. The net can swiftly become a 100x 5 ft seine, or 200x 2.5 ft baited net weir. It can form a couple of traps for migrating waterfowl, too. I lash some of the gear to the outside of the packs, but I cover everything with a 3rd drum liner. this protects the stuff from prying eyes as well as from rain and if any piece of gear does fall off, the liner will catch it.. The sleep/shelter/extra clothing is lashed to the top of the buttpack and the daypack rides on the gear. this causes the gear to serve as a pack frame. I had to add a much wider/stiffer belt to the butt pack. My hip pads are my spare T shirt and boxer shorts. My shoulder pads are my spare socks. I truly hate every square inch and every oz of stuff that I have to lug around while not using that stuff, so I try very hard to find a use for everything, while hiking or camping/sleeping
Would be cool to see you out there with your kids, passing along the skills. My wife and I enjoy your vids. We’ve also passed on some of the “other” folks you mentioned too.
Well I certainly appreciate the support! I will have to make a video with them after all the responses in the comments.. Thanks for watching and for the kind words 🔥🔥🔥
I especially enjoyed this one. Would love to see you do a challenge or outing with your twins JJ. When you told off the arrogant know-it-alls who don't even consider that some of us may have physical challenges and that's why we need to carry lighter packs I said, "thank you JJ!" out loud.
Awesome! Glad that resonated with you- I do what I do for people just like you!! Thanks for watching and I will get a video with me and the boys soon 💪🏻
You just had to vent a little brother and it’s okay people just don’t understand any of it the things you do, keep fueling the fires bro we support you.
I'm more of a ''layers'' (or tiers] kinda guy... I have a customized ''survival bracelet'' [your ''Bat-watch'' is better] and a ''belt'' [ mine has a zipper, not velcro like yours, 70 cm long stash... and I use the buckle that turns into a knife, from another belt] that I carry with my keys and around my neck are my EDC... that's my Zero (basic) layer. Then we talk ''bags'' a ''leg thigh bag'' is my first layer, which will give some better options and more gear, a 40 lt backpack will be my second layer, adding some more, and a 90 lt ''towering'' backpack will be my third layer (in that case, the 40 it can be attached on my chest...] usually the third layer comes with a vehicle, with the rest I can hike, bike, etc... PS: I never said ''body warmers'' mate, I would never suggest single-use items, I said ''heating pads''... you know these ''heating jackets'' they sell, you can buy the pads only, and use them inside your clothes, or sleeping bag... you'll need a power bank to power them up, everything electrical I use doubles as a power bank, my mobile, flashlight, etc... I also have a couple ways to recharge everything, a small manual thing in my keys, a small [30w] foldable solar... as a result, I replace heavier and bulkier gear [like clothes and sleeping sets] with the option to generate heat, instead of preserving it... I use mylar too... and something about woolen blankets... wool is developed by Nature to generate heat when it is wet [dumped] it's a chemical thing... A mylar over the blanket would be the best shelter... Since the cloak has become your way to go, consider carrying a small foldable umbrella with you too... sometimes the cloak is too much to use, and an umbrella is enough... plus you can use it to ''close the door'' in your set-up... the ''Yes'' after the ''I've got the sunrise'' speaks volumes about the night you had... lol , what a relief watching the sun coming up... Stay safe out there ! WE'D LOVE TO SEE PAPA BEAR BRINGING HIS CUBS ON THE HUNT....
I’d love to spend some time out in the bush with you just to see your gear in action- I remember now you talking about the “electric” pads.. I misquote there.. My bad. This concept interests me for sure.. Now I can’t remember who suggested the body warmers 😂.. You did use safety pins though right? Getting senile in my old age lol.. I really like the idea of the umbrella to go with the Cloak, but it’s not a part of my regular kit just yet- gotta do a few more tests first.. The sun was definitely a welcome sight and maybe Papa Bear can get those cubs to enjoy another one with me soon- thanks for everything you do brother 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
@@FueltheFires lol... ''safety pins'' yeah!... or velcro... or just throw them in the sleeping bug... I gave away all my gear 5 years ago to friends back in Greece... I could carry just 24 kilos (!) with me moving to Australia (I was born here] so I had to rebuild everything... thankfully I had all my experience with me... (survival is a state of mind ) so everything is new, adapted to different needs and climate, I enjoyed the procedure, I don't believe in excess storing of food we don't live in castles anymore, I don't believe in hunting/fishing either... I think trapping is the way to go... silent, discreet, minimum exposure... there are ''bipods'' everywhere, and even when they're not straight-up hostile, they're messy, and trouble!... I'll say it again, ''Crisis'' is a Greek word (ΚΡΙΣΙΣ-CRISIS) meaning ''judgment/re-evaluation'' everything and everyone is under constant judgment in a crisis... re-evaluated... our status, our principles, and values... survival rule us all... We should wish we never have to experience what other people have to experience right now, just to survive... we should always count our blessings! what our forefathers had to go through to secure a better future... a fighting chance for us!...
the reflective tyvek bivy, XL size, from 2GoSystems, the "trifecta" doesn't do a lot by itself, but with the plastic "envelope" 4+ inches of compressed dry debris around the bivy, it's worth about 40F degrees more than the clothing that you're wearing. If you're wearing clothing that lets you handle 40F while moving around, or 50F while sitting, it'll let you sleep at 20F. . you have to be about 10F warmer in order to sleep well than to toss and turn and "survive". I got news, if you dont sleep for 72 hours or so , you wont survive, in the woods, cause you'll be going crazy and making horrible decisions.
I love this video. You really captured the essence of camping well with minimal gear. I really felt like I was along for the journey. Look forward to more.
I also run the streamlight 7A but on an Sig X Carry pro. for edc pocket light I carry the Cloud defensive Chico which is real similar to the streamlight micro stream.
Super overnighter right there! Some good points you've mentioned, and I'm also glad that your tarp poncho (forgot the name for a bit 😅) shelter setup received those improvements to make it an even better all-rounder for mobile and stationary shelter options on the go. I've been inspired recently to go out again and test what I have currently since the last time, and see what's improved, what I can improve, and what else to add or remove. As you mentioned in this video and my last comment you replied to on the 24h with Jason and the kids, unnecessary gear ain't worth their weight, so I'm gonna have to see what I've learned from that experience and see what I've improved in and what not. Anyways, thanks for these vids, the content is valuable as can be, and it's useful to get out and live for a change 🙌
Awesome! Great feedback and super glad to hear you’re gonna get out there and train again- good stuff! Had a good time on this trip and we’re still in process of improving the “Tacti-Cloak”.. The improvements were greatly appreciated and I think we might just have 1 more in store coming- shhhhhh lol Thanks for watching 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
@@FueltheFires thanks man, appreciate it, and glad to hear you had fun and enjoyed it, that's what it's all about! Keep it up 🙌 Ahh, there's the name lol. Sounds good, can't wait to see what you guys will add as an update before the final version comes out, but great piece of gear nonetheless. Have fun, stay safe, and yeah, get your kids out, would love to see how they fare and what their gear choices are and how it plays out, good practice for them too
I really enjoy these outings as well as all of the other Survival Dispatch videos. I'm starting out with a 20-30lb backpack. Maybe I can eventually work up to my much larger backpack. 67 years old but I really love being outside especially in the woods. Man, I wish I could have joined you on this short adventure. I need to go camping in a bad way as I miss be outdoors. Nothing like some nice hot cup of joe in the morning.
Yea morning sunrises are the best when in the outdoors As for the boys Let's see if the Ole bull can keep up with the young ones....??? Great channel Thanks
I appreciate that and I think this bull still has a good run in him 😂 Thanks for watching and I will get the boys back in the woods with me for another sunrise 👍🏻
Great vid sir. I appreciate your sacrifice for your audience. Thanks for what you said to the posers. I’m one of those guys with a back injury curtesy of Uncle Sam. No regrets though. Just a challenge to work around. Thanks again for all you do.
I can appreciate what you just said- we do what we do because of people like you.. Thank you for supporting the channel and for your service- love your attitude 👊🏻
Yeah JJ, I love sunrise camping with a cup of coffee and nature coming alive. The trip with your kids would be great! You mentioned the trolls who say a 20# pack is ridiculous just haven't suffered enough lol. I love my gear but learned my lesson climbing Cold Mtn. with 60# pack. Had to lay down for awhile at the top before I could enjoy that 6er. I was about your age at the time and it cured me of that.
It’s good to appreciate the little things every now and again! Vote counted on the boys adventure 👍🏻 I spent 14 years carrying 72 pounds as a SAR-1 and I was done with that in my 40’s.. I will never carry that much weight again- my ruckin’ days are over 😂
The Viet Cong lived in tunnels for 30 years. For 10 of those years, the tunnels in the Cu Chi area had to be 30 ft down, cause the US was dropping 500 lb bombs on them. For shtf, your tunnel only needs a foot of dirt over you and you can dig a 10m long tunnel in a week, if you start in a spiderhole. You can create that spiderhole in a single night. Anyone who finds that hole, pre shtf, will not bother to return to it post shtf, but they WOULD if it was a dugout shelter or tunnel. Also, without you there to maintain it, such a tunnel would get full of water, mud, snakes, spiders, skunks, collapse and the split logs needed to shore up the dirt will rot in a couple of years, etc. The VC's tunnel were in clay, so they did not need to be shored-up. They made their tunnels just large enough for a 110 lb man to be able to curl up and reverse directions. A 180 lb US Soldier could not do so unless he first removed a lot of dirt with an entrenching tool VERY few US soldiers were willing to go into those tunnels, knowing that an AK-47 or a hand grenade could be waiting at any intersection or corner. Even US wimps should be able to handle a mere 1 year in a tunnel. Come out only at night and only for one hour, to access a food bucket and cook a meal. The first 3 months, you can't be cooking food nor having any food inside of the tunnel, cause it will draw dogs, which will draw people. After 90 days, tho, the dogs will all have been eaten. So you'll live on your body fat and that one meal per day during that time-period., eating foods that dont require cooking. if you scan 360 degrees with passive IR or thermal imaging before emerging and repeat every 5 minutes, it will be very unlikely that you'll be surprised during your one hour of exposure. If you'll wear nail sandals whenever you're within 50m of your caches or tunnels, and changed directions of your approach-exit, using both ends of your tunnel, you'll be many times less likely to create a beaten path or be tracked. Rig 22lr noise makers to each of your spiderhole "lids". If you detect dogs or men at one end of your tunnel, you can crawl to the other exit, and decide if you'll peek out and shoot 1-2 of them with silenced auto rifle, or throw a pipe bomb, shoot several of them, throw the smoke grenades and vacate that area. Move 10 miles, create another tunnel, and return once every 2 weeks, at night of course, to access one of your food caches.
I’ve always been interested in this subject.. I spoke at an event once about “true survival experiences” and there was another speaker that was a tunnel rat in WWII.. One thing that stuck with me was him talking about feeling the heartbeat of the enemy in those tunnels.. Mad respect for those men back in those days.. I think making a tunnel would be a cool video someday
JJ... damn it man... 🎶 🎵 I believe the children are our future.... I just got it out of my head! Now here we go again! Lmao! Absolutely love these videos! You are my favorite! I had to search to find your videos... not notified ruffled my inner anger! But I found you so you have now made my day! Thank you! Appreciate the song stuck in my head. And love the screw you part!
Great video!! I know the older I get I am wondering if I can still do things like that!! I grew up in the WNC/Northeast Ga mtns, and remember doing stuff like that. I really miss it.
Good sleep to "refuel the fires". I'd be happy to see you interact with the kids. See what they can make/bushcraft. What brand of britches are those you're wearing?
Hu JJ! Great video again my friend. Learned some intersting things for my mindset. Thank you for sharing and taking me along! All the best from Austria, Bernd 🇦🇹🤠👍🏕🔥
I love those UCO lanterns, i burn bees wax candles in them I like the smell better than the white candles. man they heat up a small shelter well, I was winter camping in a two man tent and it was really cold, I used it to heat my tent and for sure it brought the temp up a bit, also i became sold on the thremarest sleep pads on that trip when I was sitting on one side of it while cooking with my stove, the snow that was falling was melting on the other end of the matt from the heat of my ass, after that there are two things I always have with me, a thremarest sleep matt, and a uco candle.
Been meaning to test one of those thermarest pads for some time now.. Definitely gonna replace that candle with a beeswax one for sure- I hear they last longer as well.. Good suggestions 👊🏻
A Cold steel shovel, minus the handle, is one of my "minimal" items. It helps a lot with leveling out a spot, cutting firewood, etc. I can make a handle for it if I need one. It's got 8" of saw teeth on one side. I take a reflective tyvek bivy, with an "envelope" around, made of a couple of heavy duty 55 gallon drum liners.which are taped together, end to end. I stuff the area between the bivy and the envelope with dry debris and I can sleep just fine at 30F when I wear long johns under my cammies. given gloves, unlaced shoes, three pairs of sock-liners, a balaclava and a shemagh. I have never found the army field jacket to be all that warm, and it of course doesn't help your legs . I toss and turn a lot and I always wind up waking up cause I got off of a filled drum-liner or sleeping pad. I often have no leaves, or the leaves are wet/rotten. A Grayl filter is an excellent choice for a container. If it gets colder, I can start a fire with rust from the shovel's ferrule and a strip of the shemagh. Where you are, I'd use a discrete Dakota fire pit to heat up some rocks and put them in the foot box of the bivy. The 5th thing I'd want is a medical kit and in that kit would be sedatives. It is NOT true that most of your heat-loss is thru your head health.clevelandclinic.org/body-heat-loss
Well, if you’re wearing clothes but have nothing on your head, it makes sense that the majority of your heat loss would escape there as per the article.. Sounds like you’ve got a lot of experience using your gear and sounds great to me.. Keep on keeping on!
@@FueltheFires sure, but the same thing applies if you wear a balaclava but have bare feet. The feet would be even worse, due to added losses of heat thru conduction to cold ground.
Those “negative Nellies” spewing SA remarks will be the 1st to go as they weep. I'm enjoying your team taking your time to offer constructive & productive content….THANK YOU👌☝️😊✅
if it's shtf, you can't have a fire, folks. You can't make noise, show a light at night, or be out and about in daylight. Doing those things will get you shot, very early on in such conditions. Take food that doesn't require cooking, like Koolaid, jerky, flour tortillas, powdered milk, granola, and (in packets) salad dressing, nut butters, jelly. I've lived on those 8 items and a daily multitvitamin, for 2 months at a time, several times in my life. You can scatter- bury the year's supply grains, molasses, corn syrup, powdered milk, salt, sugar, Koolaid around your BOL and they will still offer calories for decades. The nut- butters, meds, supplements, seeds, and spices have to be replaced every year or so, or they have to be kept frozen. You can put a year's supply of those items in a small, $200 wally's chest freezer at home and haul them on a mountain bicycle, with you walking beside the laden bike. I include honey in my preps, but it doesnt need to be kept frozen. A year of shtf, will see 99% of the population die-off. That will make it much safer to have hidden plots of root veggies, sprouts and peanuts, tended at night.
Hi there, that bivvybag would of been nice too of had, I know you said in a couple of videos back you use that mss bivvibag jungle bag and cutdown rollmat plus a poncho on most of your camps, can you get away with it all year round with your clothing layers thx?
you need to hold your BOL to 45 lbs, and 10 lbs of that has to be "extra' clothing, pack(s) and shelter/sleep gear, 10 lbs of it needs to be food and water, and 20 lbs of it needs to be armor, guns, ammo, scope, silencer, night vision, batteries, helmet, counter-weight, solar charger. That leaves very, very little weight for everything else, folks and you have to be olympically fit to run and gun with 45 lbs. When it's shtf, if you drop any of that gear, you're going to be able to replace it.. There wont be any supply sergaent to re-issue it, no chopper evac or insertion, no safe base to run back to. Most will have to cut the guns and ammo by 5 lbs, and have nothing more than a pocket 9mm and a silenced 22lr autorife, and have 5 lbs less food and water, which means you'd route to your BOB better stay close to streams, lakes, etc., and get there in one night, with lots of food being scatter-buried there, If you dont, there's no point in bugging-out. A year's supply of food for an adult male costs $1000 if you go at it intelligently. So you're going to die cause you didn't sell your plasma for a month, or didn't take out a half time ($3000) half time college loan. A full time loan would pay for the real deal night vision and it'll be so much fun that you'll never regret buying it.
And that's exactly one major problem in the world right now.....if we just did more stuff that was uncomfortable by choice it would make the times that we have to go through unexpectedly that more comfortable and it gives us practice on the things we should be doing and the things we should be avoiding!!!! If you just look at doing stuff like that as practice or a test per say well we're just going to figure out how to get through it smoother with less problems and being able to adapt to those situations with more patience and knowledge!!!!!so while I understand it's fun to bring everything and the kitchen sink out with us... its also important to test ourselves with minimal gear and or purposely not bringing certain things
I so am onboard for ya to do a video with your sons for sure. I’m just curious are the bringing their A game on man beards though? lol hate to say it I’m envious of your beard brother lol. Great video yet again. God bless ❤️
Now there is an idea for a new channel ..... "Jinxed with Jason" or "Suffering with Salyer". Sorry if I misspelt your last name Jason. Really enjoy watching all your videos gentlemen, keep them coming please 🙂
At this point I haven’t found one.. Before Nic sent it to me, I used the tried and true military style poncho.. Mine is a Helikon Tex and it’s larger than the classic USGI poncho.. The one thing that really impressed me with the Tacti-Cloak is that it mitigates your thermal image- it’s quite expensive though and I realize that.. Nic said he may have a less expensive version in the future
Stupid question JJ , as a SAR member ,if it was shtf .whats your experience/ advice for dealing with dogs, either camping or evading, appreciate the wisdom. Great vid 👍👍👍👍👍
Would love to see you with your boys. Also, the cloak where can we get it. I may have asked you before I can't remember, or maybe you told us in another video. I just turned 48 so I can't remember anything anymore. 😂😂
Haha.. I can’t remember if I have underwear on lol.. I will tell the boys another vote has come in! The Tacti-Cloak can be found at www.rnrforge.com .. It is expensive brother
@@elevatorman7750You got it brother.. May have 1 more upgrade in store and there’s talk of a less expensive solution coming down the road- we’re talking on the regular about how to really make this thing a game changer
You would just have to contact him to see.. Go to www.rnrforge.com and get his info and you might have something he needs 👍🏻 It’s called the “Tacti-Cloak”
Ok ok here’s your challenge from this keyboard warrior … I dare you to take your boys out in the woods have them pack their own bag and then (wait for it ) cook some awesome food over a real fire (not fake) ! Then record it and show them this about 10 yrs from now with their wife’s present ! This is my mission for you sir ! 👍🏻 Thanks for these videos Brother !
I have many times.. This kit was a product of a BOB class I taught and the viewers wanted to see me run it.. A (good) wool blanket is a great piece of kit and has passed the test of time.. Unfortunately they are quite heavy when wet and can be somewhat bulky as well.. I still enjoy using them though
I enjoy prepping to doing good post SHTF and restart . ( The Youngsters future ) The other stuff short of the relationship with YHWH Elohim is of this world . Just my walk Thank you for your videos .
I don’t know why you guys waste your time with those Grayl filters. I’m an avid backpacker and I can tell you 100% that those things are way too inefficient and too heavy. There are better options for filtering water. Anybody who uses a grayl should be a red flag that they have no clue what the hell they are doing in the outdoors.
Super light weight kit is not for me for sure. It is a waist of money and I want to be comfortable. The last time I went backpacking in New Mexico I was carrying 60 lbs. I came back with 49 lbs. I slept good every night, I stayed dry and I had what I needed. I slept on top of an 11,700 foot mountain in bear country. There is no way I would go into the woods without good solid gear.

Hey, I appreciate you and your video first time listener. I like the message you sent out about helping somebody that needs help and not doing the opposite. We need more people like you and more people to look after each other. Thanks again.
Welcome to the Tribe! Thanks for watching!! I really appreciate the kind words and positive feedback.. Means a lot to me 👊🏻
40:35 "Coffee, sunrise, deer!" Love the enthusiasm and excitement for just the little things in nature.

I really appreciate these test videos. Real gear, real time. I wish everyone with a B.O.B./EDC video would make one.

Haha.. Love that story! I’ve eaten quite a lot of Spam in my day but never THAT much lol.. Lot of wisdom that man had to share I’m sure!!
@@FueltheFires yes he did
Snide remark. I enjoyed the video. Your right, coffee Sun rise and deer. Great morning!
Perfect! It’s definitely the small things that make it all the worth while 👍🏻
I fold the bottom corners of the bivy and the envelope over and tape them in place. so that a "mummy' configuration is created.
For sure, unfortunately there wasn’t any of that material available this time.. I like the coffin idea though- pretty slick idea!
Those things (and the bivy and envelope) can be worn as clothing,
I use both a 1 lb buttpack and a 1.5 lb daypack.

@@FueltheFires Better out than in!
@@user-bh3ew6ii4gTrue that!
(survival is a state of mind ) so everything is new, adapted to different needs and climate, I enjoyed the procedure, I don't believe in excess storing of food
we don't live in castles anymore, I don't believe in hunting/fishing either...
My mantra even as a youngster " KEEP ON TRUCKEN AND KEEP THE FAITH"
It’s a good mantra! 🔥
the reflective tyvek bivy, XL size, from 2GoSystems, the "trifecta" doesn't do a lot by itself, but with the plastic "envelope" 4+ inches of compressed dry debris around the bivy, it's worth about 40F degrees more than the clothing that you're wearing.
Been sleep deprived before and couldn’t remember my name at one point.. It’s a real thing for sure
I love this video. You really captured the essence of camping well with minimal gear. I really felt like I was along for the journey. Look forward to more.

Keep doing the things JJ. Great video

I really enjoy using candles. I use them to heat up the back of my truck when sleeping in it. Works great. Plus, it’s super romantic. 🥰 😂
😂 Yes, they are!
I have never found the army field jacket to be all that warm, and it of course doesn't help your legs
It is NOT true that most of your heat-loss is thru your head
health.clevelandclinic.org/body-heat-loss
Well, if you’re wearing clothes but have nothing on your head, it makes sense that the majority of your heat loss would escape there as per the article.. Sounds like you’ve got a lot of experience using your gear and sounds great to me.. Keep on keeping on!
@@FueltheFires sure, but the same thing applies if you wear a balaclava but have bare feet. The feet would be even worse, due to added losses of heat thru conduction to cold ground.

if it's shtf, you can't have a fire, folks.
True on all accounts my friend 👊🏻

Thank you!
you need to hold your BOL to 45 lbs, and 10 lbs of that has to be "extra' clothing, pack(s) and shelter/sleep gear, 10 lbs of it needs to be food and water, and 20 lbs of it needs to be armor, guns, ammo, scope, silencer, night vision, batteries, helmet, counter-weight, solar charger.
Once again good stuff.. Need to get that night vision- you’re right.. SO EXPENSIVE! One of these days.. One of these days
Good Video! Keep up the good work
Thank you!!! 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Thank you for showing your knots...it was a big deal for me..

Kool vid. Challenge the boys
Glad you were diggin’ it! Roger Wilco 💪🏻
Is there a less expensive option for the tacticloak?
This is something I should definitely do a video on with my background.. I may just have to do that soon.. NOT a stupid question btw 👍🏻
@FueltheFires thanks again buddy. I checked out the cloak. Yeah it is expensive. But man it's cool.
@@elevatorman7750You got it brother.. May have 1 more upgrade in store and there’s talk of a less expensive solution coming down the road- we’re talking on the regular about how to really make this thing a game changer
@@FueltheFires Roger that. I would love to have one. I think it would fit the bigger guys better than a standard poncho
18:00, I need four of those ponchos…wonder if he would trade for some?
You would just have to contact him to see.. Go to www.rnrforge.com and get his info and you might have something he needs 👍🏻 It’s called the “Tacti-Cloak”
gteat video my friend, its always nice to take your sons out wiyh you i do. Thanks .
Thank you and I will definitely get my boys out there with me!
I like this challenge 😂 You’re on- thanks for watching 👊🏻🔥👊🏻
Okay (Q)- Why not carry a Military Wool Blanket also Keep Warmer at night.(Nampa,Idaho) Follower.
New to this so, can you tell me what jacket you are wearing? Thanks
Roger that- it’s a Pilgrim’s Anorak by Helikon Tex 👍🏻
Looks like you ditched the browse bed! Take up too much room?
Where you got thag small lantern?
What make is your tactical jacket it looks primo?
At 5 + minutes mark , perfect example of chem trail .
Yuuuup
Snide remark

Thank you for your videos .
Your walk is a good one indeed- thanks for watching!
@@FueltheFires My pleasure Thank you
Never respond to trolls in the comments. It makes everything worse.
You’re absolutely right.. Sometimes I just can’t help myself and ask if they need a hug 😂
Hills do suck.
Brother make some memories with your kids
Vote counted!
What are your recommendations? Since most of us here at SD really like the grayl clearly we need help.
Good for you! I carried 72 lbs for 14 years as a SAR-1 but those days are over for me.. Trying to do more with less these days.. Keep on keepin’ on!
