Restarting in this hobby a year ago after many years off/on -so much has changed over the years. When I start up a new tank I feel like a mad scientist (liquid test kits, tds meter,etc)with the water testing, note taking, yada yada….then it becomes more routine like you say and knowing our tanks, water, plants, our inhabitant’s behaviors gives a sense of all is well or not. Next topic I’d like to see is Replacements and when to replace any Aquarium parts from filters like pads, seal rings, packaged fish food, eco bio stones, or heaters any ideas I haven’t thought of. And recommendations of such. Would be appreciated.
I started using rodi water and haven’t tested in months. I only do about a 20% water change each week, very minimal stocking in my three tanks so that helps, as well as tons of plants including pothos and peace lily growing out of the tanks! The only thing I check weekly is my tds, if that doesn’t change then I don’t worry about anything else.
For your experiment Bentley, tetra has the photo scanner tool in the app now. JBL has the same thing, but it also has a color balance sheet that the tetra doesn't.
When I was younger I wanted to just get the electronic testers but they were so expensive back then and you still had to remaster them after a minute so I decided test strips were fine enough for the time lol. And now I don't even test my water. For the most part I just go by the ecosystem as a whole and I try to 'work thru' things rather than just change water to try to get over something. But sometimes, especially when feeding lots of frozen foods the water gets nasty a lot faster and I feel it needs changed out around every year sometimes sooner but that usually works out with harvesting haha. But with non breeding tanks I never have a problem
@@nabokovfan87at least since it wasn’t a livestream I could stuff the phone in my pocket and go on painting my fishroom. 😂 takes longer if I’m also participating in the chat - plus I’d probably get paint on my phone!

JBL is solid. Their products are made in Germany and they perform very well. Honestly I really find most the products made in Europe of a very high quality. Not always better than made in China but most things certainly. Chihiros is obviously high end and made in China but there is also so much garbage produced there. I would rather pay more for the products that are better quality.
8:30 to be fair the higher up you go the less qualified they are. My plant manager has absolutely no knowledge of this industry yet ended up as a plant manager. He has absolutely no idea how things work or how to make them work and I could easily do his job well and still do my jobs lol. Unnecessary overpaid dopes. The actual workers have to be way more qualified for their jobs just to be given a chance.
