Eventually you'll be able to make a commander deck of "Why the hell is this Secret Lair the way that it is?. Looking at you, Battle of Wits reprint in the Princess Bride SLD. Add all the Basic Lands that look like almost every other basic land in existence.
Yep, 100% with you. Thought this was a slam-dunk buy when I saw these announced but the cards they picked these to represent make no sense. I would be confused by my own cards half the time so I didn't pick these up. Which is a bummer because the art style is really cool on most of them
Well the Indominous Rex is a green blue colored card to call back to the Revised version of Serendib Efreet, which was a blue green colored card. You can enjoy this fact and other things I just make up in the comments.
Agree for the most part, however the Indominus Rex as Polyraptor completely makes sense if you ask me. Sure the original cards don't look alike, but in terms of flavour its almost spot on. The Indominus is a genetic hybrid and a clone of the Tyrannosaurus Rex, so making it Polyraptor which clones itself seems perfectly fitting to me.
The Indominus Rex was actually based on Raptor DNA so a raptor is not a bad choice for that. However, I completely agree with the others. They really messed this one up.
The Professor also said it well "The people that are most interested in a Jurassic Park Secret Lair are also the people the would care the most about it being the correct type of dinosaur." Great Art but why...
Really loved the original card comparisons on deck and any of your card suggestions would have made this set 1000x better but what can ya do. Got this set as well cause they look damn cool at least lol
I decided to just ignore the name of the actual cards they are supposed to represent and just focus on their own texts where their respective names are used with the effects, it helps with obvious mismatch they did
I fully understand the gripes but I don’t understand them enough to not buy them , the name of the dinosaur is technically replace the card name in a sense any ways and for me i prefer the t rex with etalis effect cuz out of the set its the main go to aside from the indominus being polyraptor but that works anyways being part raptor .
So after having the same complaints made to everyone I know that plays magic I also bought this. After long thought I believe they made the TREX Etali, solely because that's the only legendary creature in the set and you'd of course want to play with the Trex as your commander. That's no excuse tho, it could've been a ghalta or a gishath. For the Polyraptor I do think it checks out, since the indominus is like a clone and scientifically made. And the triceratops is the one that really pisses me off because because this could've been a great way for new players to get a goring ceratops that has only been reprinted once. And for the extra card, I guess it's "free" and the meme is funny but I'd really had preferred to get a card that's actually playable lol
I REALLY want to buy the Jurassic Secret Lair because I really do love that art but man the extreme oversight or lack of care just really upsets me. As a huge Dinosaur fan I know when I play these cards in my deck it’s going to tilt me everytime I draw into them 😅😭
I assume Rexy got Etali strictly so there could be a commander T-Rex.I do wonder what the logic of not making Ravenous Tyrannosaurus a legendary was. I think an opportunity was missed not having these be etched foil since the frames for these clearly were meant to stand out in comparison to the art but they all wind up blending in except for Spinosaurus. I love the Explorer Livery on the T-Rex card but I don't understand using those same colors over Rexy, it doesn't make the frame stick out and dulls the color of the art overall.
Also I'm popping in to magic strictly because of this Jurassic World stuff (I intend to stick around but not really diverge from Dinos/JW stuff) so I appreciate the useful cards I got from this. I do wish the Brachio didn't get a meme card though (literally any altisaur would have been preferred from a newbie perspective and also it would have actually made sense). Velociraptor canonically would have been the best choice though since it's the only dino that was confirmed to have been breeding in the movies (multiple dinos were breeding in the book but the Velociraptors were doing it the most). And in Jurassic World they straight up say they hatched 2 I-Rexes but one of them ate the other. I'm just glad I got a Polyraptor in a SLD I was already planning on buying lol. Blue theming for it I assume is related to the JW branding (focus on grey and blue), a blue hue for the art makes a lot of sense, not so much with the frame being blue.
This definitely feels like a project that got pushed to production without oversight. The obvious mismatching of what the Magic Card was/did vs these forced names and art is people who understand neither.
I HATE THIS SECRET LAIR WHYYYYYY Etali is a T-rex in the lair THE T-Rex is a Spino Colossal Dredmaw is A brachiosaurus Wayward sword tooth is a Triceratops Polyraptor is a blue card
This secretlair is all kind of wrong. - the card choice, as many have pointed out it makes no sens both in flavor and compared to the cards its based on. - I'm personally sick and tired of cards with "non standard frame" that are barely readable. And most importantly for me, the color. Why did they slap random colors on them without any regard to the card colors? Why is the spinosaurus blue and red when the card is green and red? Why is the indominus rex blue when the card is green? Why is the velociraptor and tyranosaurus rex yellow and red when they are just monored?
nothing in the secret lair makes visual sense. the dinosaurs are the wrong types. and the the color on the cards are misleading. art style is cool though, a shame everything else i just broken
Finally, a reprint of Etali. Hopefully they do Zetalpa next
took me a second ngl dude

Battle of wits was a cop out, if it wasn’t in there people would feel that it is incomplete
Battle of wits from the SLD should have been mental misstep.

damn they sent out collossal dreadmaw. personally i'd be worried about too high power level in these secret lair drops.

If the secret card was at least an Apex Altisaur I would have zero problems picking this Lair up.
they sure must been huffing something to mess up this bad, it gives me a headache why they would missmatch these so bad.

rainbow foils have a more rainbow look it was more visible on goblins squabling secret lair
I almost wish I bought this set but opted out for the Through the Wurmhole instead. Same thoughts you mentioned, especially the Etali.
i thought this was a TCG Love Openings video. since he's opening all, the just arived secret lairs

Personally i think what happened is just that an intern was task to send the card to shippement and send the wrong card in the mail by accident.
I suppose they thought nobody would notice or they don’t care about the dinosaurs looking anything like the originals.

Indominus Rex is polyraptor only because indominus Rex is a DNA mixed breed from a raptor. He gets a pass. The others, completely mislabeled… sigh
Indominus Rex is the name of a Dinosaur printed in the Jurassic Park set...
Edit:wrong card
I got the street fighter SL that’s the only one I bought
