I bought 12 DMU Collector packs for 3€ each (!) last year (they had been mislabeled as "DMU JMP", so mistaken for Jumpstart packs, and put on clearance by the disinterested staff in an electronics warehouse) and I did in fact pull a Phyrexian "Sheoldred, the Apocalypse" and a Foil "Liliana of the Veil" and some other great cards of less financial value.
Dominaria United was my best box pull ever. I got three (yes, three!) Sheoldreds. One in the regular print foil and two in the glass version, one foil one non-foil.
I've been very fortunate to pull 5 Sheoldreds from 3 DMU collectors boxes! 1 foil etched showcase, 1 regular showcase, 3 phyrexian showcase with 2 being foil! i've heard of folks opening entire cases without pulling 1 so feel incredibly lucky. Also love the stained glass foil lands from this set they're stunning.
That's really awesome. I pulled 4 from a collectors box, fat pack, and set box. I can't remember which from whichever but got an alternate art, 2 phyrexian, and a foil regular

I love the Dominaria arts and I enjoy the act of breaking open packs so ya… something childlike and exciting to me!! I bought TWO of these booster boxes just to collect the beautiful foil lands and ended up with 2 Sheoldreds, a Reaver Cleaver, 2 Lillianas of the Veil, and like you a bunch of other cards in varying value. I ended up with enough foiled lands to make my deck. So ya I do buy singles but sometimes it’s just fun to open a box of cards!!
I did a similar thing. I ordered a collector box on bargain and pulled a Sheoldred(I got two from my first box when the set released). I also recently bought two draft boxes at $90 each with the intent of drafting with friends and stashing one. I haven't cracked either yet but I'm tempted to crack one since I can still get a stash box for around $90. I can't imagine Sheoldred stays that high.... whether through bans or reprints(or cycling out) though.
This is a great question! Haven't started watching yet and I would learn to towards no but if you only need the one... Collector boosters do have more rares/mythics.... So tough to know! Quick edit: Dual typed tapped lands are super good...I mean they literally slapped cycling/surveil on those lands and upshifted them to rare... it's pretty crazy. I know the rare lands are much better but it's wild in price difference.
I thought the same too so I got a bundle. I opened the bundle and got an old gnawone but nothing else of note. However I got sheoldred from a promo pack I won from a LGS event. So events turned out to be better ahaha Edit: NO SHOT YOU ACTUALLY GOT THE SHEOLDRED FROM THE BOX JUST LIKE THAT!!
If I need a specific card I buy it. If I want a couple from a set I buy a box. Typically sets will have other cards that make the box worth it for me personally because I don't know everything that's in the set. I don't follow spoilers that close and when brewing can find homes for a lot of "junk" cards
Should you? No. I don't know about modern magic, but the old model of box opening was essentially lottery tickets. You keep what you like/want and flip the rest to get another box in an "endless" loop. When you crack something really nice, it is either for you or helps you buy what you actually want.

That's basically how it was back in 2007. Tarmogoyf was a 200 dollar card and you open one from a booster box, you get your money back plus more. You can just trade in the tarmogoyf and another booster box for free and since Future Sight was a small set, the pull rate for a tarmogoyf was higher than usual.

I'm making an Atraxa commander deck so I require a good mana base so instead of buying a few space shocks... why not buy the booster box which is not that much more expensive than the shocks themselves. And I only get 1 shock which is the box topper that had stomping grounds........ and Atraxa doesn't use red... LOL
I pulled Sheoldred from a Dominaria bundle box and sold it to buy more cards, this was before I knew anything about Magic. I’ve regretted it every day since.
one of those conundrums; Buy box? or buy single? you could go through many box's and not get any. Or just buy the thing as a single but then your spending alot on seemingly little. Of course, you get a handful of cards i would had loved to had gotten, and the highest value'd variant i'm sure you can get through Dominaria United collector booster. Apparently there's is a more valuable version through "ALL WILL BE ONE." Fun Fact!: Tetsuo, Imperial Champion is a good representative of Samus Aran!
Finally broke down and bought sheoldred for 70 and got 2 bundles in the same order. Ended up pulling 2 more sheoldreds in one pack out of one of the bundles.. was going in a edh deck but ended up making a standard deck instead lol.

The closest thing I did like this was this : I went to my LGS, ask for Kamigawa boosters, and I couldn't get more than the very 3 last DRAFT boosters pack. I wanted a Boseiju, got it in second pack. But here Sheoldred Alt Art Foil, damn what a banger.
I bought packs until I finally Pulled Sheoldred! I would say I I bought $150 worth of packs and I got the one with Phyrexian writing. So I decided to try this with Elesh norn, I spent less and got Elesh norn and Mondrak…. However I tried to pull meathook massacre… I have spent enough money to have bought it so many times….
I bought a pack off Best Buy for $147 because they had it on clearance. Literally pulled Sheoldred on my second pack. Was so excited. Foil Phyrexian Sheoldred. About to sell that baby.
I'm pretty sure collector boosters have the highest chance, because they have the most different slots that Sheoldred could potentially be in. I got the Sheoldred in the textured foil slot, which wouldn't have been possible in a set booster!

@@8thPlaceDave BUT set boxes have 30 packs, which means each box has 30-120 rares in it, while collector boxes only have 12 packs, so exactly 60. So really they're pretty similar, but you get more cards out of the set box, and it costs less-- but has fewer foils and alt arts.
No joke, last week I picked up a single set booster of Dominaria United since I was redeeming store credit at an LGS and needed an extra few dollar purchase to get myself over the card minimum. Boom, Sheoldred. So yea I'll be building a commander deck around her. I guess I never need to buy a Dominaria United pack ever again?

I would go for the box and get 140 cards of random worth than a singular expensive card in most cases and just give up on the deck that needs 4of to be whatever the hell the meta says it should be powerwise. Also if you can't trade pure uncut maple syrup for cards I'm really disappointed in canada.
For newer or unfamiliar players like myself, would appreciate if you show the card without covering the body of the text with your finger. Was pausing to read the cards but your thumb was blocking ~50% of the card text on some of the rares
It's all kind of depends like what's the easy of the Domino's box. If you don't open it, will you be able to sell the singles that retail prices or have to take you know half price like a trade in?
I know they printed a lot, but it still confuses me how this set is so cheap. Sheoldred really ain't that hard to pull and there is plenty of commander value in this set. The land cycle is also amazing. Black has really good support in this set Gix, Braids, Liliana. The power of this set is really good. And this set has variants with the stained glass vibe just works. Then the most underrated part, I think the even the bad mythics and rares along with commons are still pretty fun cards. Maybe I am wrong but I feel like this set is still underrated today. Everyone speaks about neon dynasty but not DU. Most people do speak about sheoldred of course but in terms of actual set set not so much.
went grocery shopping at walmart the other day and decided to buy an omega pack of dmu. Went home and ripped that baby opened. 3 cards later, i saw a legends card. Long and behold, Eureka shows up. Almost shit my pants. The rest of the cards were shit but NM Eureka.
I love cracking packs over buying singles. Obviously that’s not the way to do things, but I don’t want somebody else’s experience that they no longer wanted. If that makes sense.
I remember buying a Collector box of All Will Be One, looking for an Atraxa. I got 3, one Phyrexian Text foil, one Setp-And-Complete, amd one base art foil. I also got 2 Elesh Norn, Mother of Machines 1 standard foil, and one Phyrexian text Foil. It was maybe the best box I ever opened.
I once opened a box of Innistrad Midnight Hunt - It was the first and last box I brought since I really dag the set. Turned out it happened to be one of the worst set of the last few years, both gameplay and from economic stand point. Needless to say, I didn't open Meathook Massacre.

I had to buy Sheoldred after not getting one from about 15 boxes between Dominaria and Phyrexia together. Congrats on the pull.
