When upload the video I realized I made a mistake when discussing the cities sign. Its the website not the sign that talks about Depoe bay being the smallest natural navigable harbor.
The last time I was there, I spent about twenty minutes under the bridge watching this exhausted mama seal trying to get her bratty baby seal to go to bed. All of the other seal mamas and babies were asleep on the rocks. This one baby said "No! I want to play!" Mama was grunting and barking and trying to nudge the baby up onto the rocks. It reminded me of me, when I was a bratty toddler who didn't want to go to bed. They're really not so different from us.
So Seacliff isn't a natural harbor because it was blasted out of the rock but Depoe Bay is natural because it was dug out of a low spot in the ground? Good to know.
@@bob_._. The low spot was always there and was flooded at high tide, though; it was just artificially deepened and expanded. This is unlike Seacliff, which was never regularly flooded in the first place and never existed prior to its creation.
@@bob_._. My bad, I misinterpreted the "good to know" as being sarcastic. Everything happening this next week is really starting to get to me, I guess.
There are small harbors like this all over Italy, Greece, Malta, Cyprus and the Mediterranean where volcanic rock causes small harbors for fleets of fishing boats etc. I've personally seen smaller harbors than that all over Sicily. They're a dime a dozen and they didn't have to be altered at all.
The fact that this video was recommended to me proves that YT is either obtaining my location and using it in their algorithm or obtaining my audio from my phone. Either way this is creepy YT.
That looks pretty big to be honest. I'm not sure what kind of wordplay they're using to make that the world's smallest, but at the very least they seem to be disqualifying every freshwater harbor.
Huh. I've been in the area around Depoe bay quite a bit over the years, but never been to Depoe Bay properand had no clue about it's self proclaimed uniqueness.

Thank you for talking about a small part of Oregon history, means a lot to me as a lifetime Oregonian ❤

The algorithm decided to bless us today.

Ah yes the perfect video to watch instead of working on my research paper
This might be the greatest compliment I can get on a video. Thank you for choosing me to procrastinate too.

@@linkly9272Yeah, that's what the difference is and that's good to know, like I said.

@@linkly9272 I have to be honest, there was almost a twinge of it because I mean, if it completely drains at low tide, can it really be called a bay?
Used to fish out of Depoe Bay... Last time in the 90's. Wonderful little town.
Love visiting Depoe Bay and try to get there 2-3 times a year. We especially like visiting the Sea Hag, which is a great seafood restaurant.
Love the sea hag
I went over the bar there, the rough bar sign was lit and flashing, good times.
excellent oregon video thanks for your effort
Shout out to everyone who rode the wave in here with me.
I think that Perkin's Cove in Maine would be a good contender.

The comments have mentioned a few other contenders for smaller harbor. I’ll have to look into them.
I've been there. Its smaller than it looks. Its definitely the smallest on the west coast.
Very nice sharing here have a great weekend 👉👉👍👍🤗🎉🎉
