  • Watch the process of removing aluminum transfer with abrasive Scotch-Brite pads after a piston failure in my two-stroke engine. I'll discuss cleanup with muriatic acid as well and why I chose to use abrasive scouring pads instead. The cylinder is measured with a dial bore gauge and that data is analyzed.

    I read this about the ignition (MVT) that you use on your Malossi engine. and thought you might want to see it...
    if you want a link to the place, just say (-:
    MVT DD ignition timing for 50cc stroke engines should be 0.40 before TDC, while for any other stroke and long stroke the timing should be between 0.30 and 0.35 max. Failure to comply with this condition may result in an abnormally high temperature in the stator, which may cause irreversible damage.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  2 месяца назад

      Thanks for sharing that. I wonder why it would overheat if out of that range a little.

      @@bp-tuningaeroxlc-dd6474 If the stator is overheating though, it shouldn't know what size the engine is. It basically just spins and processes signals, so I'm assuming it's an electronics based issue that maybe too much advance or delay causes. The only way I'd think engine size would have any bearing there would be possibly related to dwell related to stroke and conrod length, but it seems like it should be so marginal.

      @@49ccscoot yes exactly. the stroke length.
      MVT ignition should according to what I read, then the MVT ignition that you use should not be suitable for Engine with Rod85 cranks or longer stroke.. or is it not recommended? you use MVT Ignition on engine
      over 70cc.
      I have read that about the MVT ignition

    I recently saw a video regarding expansion chambers effect on dynamic compression ratio.
    On turbocharged cars as boost rises so does compression pressure or dynamic compression ratio.
    Expansion chambers can increas dynamic compression ratio and this is one of the reasons for retarding the timing at optimum/ high rpm.
    Did you know this already?
    I didn't!

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  3 месяца назад

      Good info. Basically anything that is changing how much mixture you can cram into the cylinder will affect dynamic CR, unless you're looking at DCR as strictly related to valve or port events... which I call corrected CR.

    I don't have a scooter but do have a 2 stroke motorized bicycle.....Gonna put a 4.5hp 2 stroke snowblower engine on a bike soon. I think with some porting, expansion pipe & carburetor. I'll be able to get 6+ hp with plenty of torque.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  4 месяца назад

      Nice. Do they make expansion chambers for the snowblower engine or are you going to build one or modify one for a similar engine?

    • @michaelbrinks8089
      @michaelbrinks8089 4 месяца назад

      @@49ccscoot Gonna weld one up to fit onto the exhaust port. The engine has a fan shroud & pull start so it'll have air blowing on it at idle, along with extra air cooling when bike is moving. The bad part is they stopped making the 2 stroke snowblowers. But there always seems to be engines & SB for sale. I'm pretty sure I'd be able to find case bearings & seals to fit & chainsaw top end to fit later on.

      @@49ccscootHey do you know what the safe max cylinder head temp limit should be for a small aur còoled 2 stroke?
      I set my warning ⚠ guarge at 310F ....Once it hits 310 I slow down & get under 300....My temp guage is accurate. Would it be safe to cruise along at 310F for several miles/minutes. Or is it too hot 🔥 causing ex port area to be dangerously hot.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  3 месяца назад

      @@michaelbrinks8089 I always suggest getting used to what the gauge reads when the engine is happy while tuning. Only then should it be used to monitor. I have had CHTs that would seize at 300 and others that were fine at say 350F. Others say over 400F can be OK for max. None of mine would ever make it there without problems. Depends on the exact sensor location and type of sensor and how much air can get around it and so on. If the main jet is rich enough, CHT should level out and it should be OK to cruise WOT. I can't tell you what that temp will be. If low throttle gets close to wide open temps, stay away from that throttle range till you richen part throttle settings.

      Thanks for the reply........Next ride I'm gonna get up to 310F then see what temp the digital temp gun says the ex port area is. If it's not much higher than CHT. Then I could probably get away with 320 or 325 cht max temp.

    • @49ccscoot

      If it runs OK on pump gas without detonation, you're probably just wasting your money. There may be benefit with increased compression and/or ignition timing, but you'd probably get even more from oxygenated race fuels... with a higher price tag.

      That's an oil change distance, so I would definitely do an oil and filter change and gear oil just prior to departure. Do a thorough inspection of basics, like tire pressure and condition, lights and so on. I would suggest looking at the maintenance schedule in the manual and seeing what it may be time for. When I was going away for a week on my TMAX, I pulled the CVT cover off to make sure the belt was in good shape prior. It's never a bad idea to lube cables, grease pivot points and so on.
      It's not a bad idea to carry at least some basic tools along and make sure you're capable of carrying what you need safely and securely on the scoot well beforehand.
      Good luck and have a great adventure!
