Hi Mr. ScrapMan, this is Simon, one half of the two-men team that created Screw Drivers :D
I just wanted to say how awesome it is to see you play and enjoy our game. We're having an absolute blast watching each of your videos, and you and your video editor have already inspired us a lot in what we could still add to the game. If you or anybody has any feedback whatsoever for us, throw it at us we are so eager to hear your ideas and your suggestions!
P.S: The ghosts aren't getting stronger with your car class, but we have a plan on how to make the monarch challenges stronger in the future ;) Aaaand apart from a small mini map we added last week, we also added a second career to the game which includes the tech tree from the demo again ;D
    Cheers Simon

Leave the electric engines alone and do the gear shifting on the combustion engines. This will keep the good acceleration of the electric ones while giving you a better curve in acceleration once the electric engines tap out.

I don’t really comment often but if you put a bigger gear on the same axle that is attached to a smaller gear turned by a big gear then connect a small gear from another axle it will increase top speed but reduces acceleration so long as the final small gear is connected to the drive axle works the same in reverse for more torque/acceleration

4wd does not increase acceleration directly but instead decreases wheel spin this is also affected by mass if you have more mass the wheel fight the ground more making wheel spin less common and also lets you take sharper turns before spinning out but it should not be the biggest factor on grip also you should use fwd if you have a lot of weight in the front and and bwd if you have a lot of the weight back also top speed should not be followed all that closely top speed and acceleration are hand and hand if you can easily get to top speed make top speed higher and if you can't reach to top of your top speed get more acceleration and decrease your top speed

Even with the current engines that you have, you can attain higher top speed or acceleration by stacking gears. Have one axle where engines could be attached on, then if you'd like acceleration, attach small gear to it which transfer to bigger gear on another axle. And on that other axle, add another small gear anywhere you want and let it transfer to another bigger gear on another axle. Do it couple of times and you'd end up with higher acceleration. To attain higher top speeds, do it the other way around. You can attach them to the side of the chasis on the outside to fully utilize space. Or of course, you can beat the challeges to attain better combustion engines or big gear which is useful for increasing top speeds. Gear shifts works best with combustion engines. You can shift gears more than twice (the curent gear shift that you have allows only two shifts) by stacking those gear shifts as well. Meaning, you can have up to the 6th gear by having 3 gear shifters.

Hey Scrapman, I have a unique video idea. So there’s this area in the airborne map called Dry Oasis, and it’s basically a large pit with a bunch of balloons in the middle, including a flak balloon. My idea is to have you and maybe 2 others build vehicles and see how many laps you can do around the oasis before you get ripped to shreds. I’ve done this myself and it requires a balance of controllability, speed, and tankiness. I think it would either have to be a time trial or a destruction derby where all of you go at once and race around the oasis which, I forgot to mention, is full of rocks and trees. I think it would make for a great video.

Hey Scrapman, couple of tips for you from someone that's completed the game without spoiling things.
1: Gears have no collision with the ground or the body of the vehicle once you start driving.
2: it does not matter which direction the gears face after doing gear reductions. the game magically turns your wheels the correct direction.
3: hybrid drivetrains (electric and combustion) are really good because it combines the acceleration of electric and top speed of combustion engines. even though I completed the game only using combustion engines and a RWD vehicle.
4: keep an eye on the free drive map, every time you defeat a Monarch there will be "hidden" treasure for you to find. these unlock extra parts you can't get just by doing the career races.
    Hope this helps!

There should be a race giving you a massive electric engine coming up. That'll help a lot with acceleration.
If you want to get a lot of top speed, you'll definitely want gearboxes with all engines before them. Then you can adjust the ratio between the gas and electric to make the curve better.
Finally, it's possible to use multiple gearboxes, and if they have different ratios the game will properly detect this.

Adding another engine will not increase your top speed since the engines have a maximum rpm. It will simply give you more power, which allows you to use a more top-speed-focused gear ratio.
You could think of it like using one arm v.s two arms to crank something. Using two arms makes it easier, but you won't be able to crank it any faster.

The problem with the acceleration race was that all your acceleration came from the electric engines which have a low top speed, so you would reach like 50 km/h quickly but then all your acceleration was gone because only the combustion engines worked.
So like you said you have to increase the middle of the torque curve which you could do with an extra combustion engine geared for acceleration

I discovered this game through your vids, already beat it. Love it to bits, and I get extremely excited seeing a new vid of it pop up. I managed to get gold in every race before beating the monarchs, so it's definitely possible but it took me roughly 50 hours to beat the campaign that way. I am not as inclined towards this sort of stuff as you are, so take that with a grain of salt.
I found a lot of success early game by getting engines through a gear ratio and then having motors directly on the axle. Not sure if it's best practice but it worked out for me until I got into the mid levels and my builds became much larger with the power to hold them up. Tip : you can do multiple gear ratios in a row to increase power even more (ex. medium gear from engine to small on output shaft, output shaft has a medium gear itself as well, going into another small gear basically doubling the ratio but tanking acceleration, hence why I put the motors on the axles directly at first while the driveshaft carried the engine power but the gear shifter completely negated the need for this setup).
Edit : Downforce helps A LOT later on, especially when facing wheelspin and uneven center of mass. For 4x4 drive, I highly suggest higher spoilers in the back and low spoiler in the front slightly wider then the back (should be roughly the same as the wheel span) depending if its meant to turn or not. Weight distribution is EXTREMELY important. FWD/RWD is suggested for asphalt racing giving more power to a single axle, but enough of the races are mixed or offroad that overall leaning to offroad is beneficial and doesn't hurt much on the road. Always improve grip if possible.

    1) Adding more engines will only gain you acceleration because each engine will still rotate at the same speed no matter how many you add. The only way to increase your top speed is either with a better engine, adding more gears, or attaching bigger wheels. You could have easily improved your vehicle for hill climb by having medium gear go into a small gear and then putting a medium gear on the same axel as the small gear and connecting that medium gear to a small gear again. You can keep chaining this for more top speed but less acceleration.
    2) The acceleration stat can be misleading. When you attached the electric engines to small gear that drove the big gear, you increased acceleration at lower speed but now the help from the electric engine drops off at lower speeds, so you won't accelerate fast after that drop off. So getting that extra acceleration at that low speed actually hurt your vehicle more than helped.
    3) Building tips: I always start off with floating axels and gears and build my transmission first. just build a temporary structure to the desired axel position and then immediately delete that structure. I usually have the long axel going through the vehicle like you have, and then I build upwards from that axel. The best way is to place a gear shifter above the drive axel with a 1 unit space in between. Then attach a medium and small gear to the gear shifter axel and the drive train accordingly.
    4) Lastly, check out steam creations!!! this is the best way to get an idea of the best building configurations. Just so you know what's possible, I have personally uploaded a working dump truck with pistons that extend its bucket and it has a 6-speed transmission. I have also built a race car that can go 250 mph (400 km/h) with 100+ acceleration. The only thing is that I don't know if the steam workshop is working right now because the loading times have gradually been increasing as the amount of builds have increased. The axels are joined together so put gas on the back and electric on the front. Then you can have a higher gear ratio for the gas. Also when you jump the arrow keys will make you spin and flip. Do not worry about gears sticking into the ground. There is no actual collision with them. I would do 8 tires and 8 engine (4 gas and 4 electric). Did you find capacitors for the electric engine yet?

Adding engines wont help you with top speed. The engines spin up to 9krpm and thats the fastest they will go. The transmission is helping with the ratio so the engine spins the same but the wheels go faster then the 9k rpm would allow by itself. So basically higher gear ratio = top speed stacking gears on each other like a real transmission does allows you to do proper speeds with the same amount aof power (or even less). You will need more power later when the air resistance is getting too high and the engine will need to push through harder to go faster from that point. The electric engine is really there to just help you with the acceleration as you did with your build so you dont need to change anything there. About the curve it will stay this kind of harsh looking thing where it drops all of a sudden but thats normal for a hybrid the electric motors help with the start and are very fast but when the combustion engine starts kicking in it will drop. So just stack gears to get a good ratio it should be able to be pretty high because the electric engines will help to keep it going fast and now with the gear change you could easily use the big gear to get some serious speeds.
    Hope its helps :)

In my opinion, the best way to future proof your designs are to oversize the chassis and then run your powerplant off a single output shaft that feeds power into your inevitable gearbox and from there output your gear box to a drive shaft that distributes power to the axle(s).

On your gas engines you will need to change the gearing in order to get higher top speed. From engine to wheel, have a big gear to a small gear, or you could have a medium gear to a small that is connected to a medium gear that goes to a small gear. If you want a visual you should go look at kan’s videos. Hope this helps! 😁

You might want to first focus on your understanding of gears. Adding loads of engines isnt the right answer. This adds mass needlessly.

Put the combustion engines on a low gear ratio
Two electric engines on a high gear ratio
And the rest of the engines directly on the axle
The combustion engines will give the top speed
The gear ratiod engines will give great acceleration at low speeds
And the engines directly on the chassis will give slightly higher top speed than the ones on the gear ratio, while still contributing to acceleration
On top of this, make this mass of engines a modular "engine" and add the gear shifter to transmit power to the drive shaft

Hey scrapman, i think the best hybridation would be to put as many electric engines as you can directly on the driveshaft (don't forget the small ones with capacitor), or maybe even some on a gear ratio to increase their top speed a bit, making several "steps" rather than just one large drop in power, and gearing up your combustion engines with horizontal gears for space saving reasons, to max out your top speed. So making several steps of electric engines to lead to the final all combustion ratio, and maybe afterwards making all of that go into a full gearbox, which should let you have several gear ratios in addition to the (somewaht fake) gear ratios you get from the different electric gearings, making it all more optimised both for top speed and acceleration at all speeds

Focus on gear ratios and gear shifting. Experiment with your performance curve just using those. The engines are a bit less important.
The secret sauce for smooth curves is "compound gears". Which causes "gear reduction" axle to axle.
The gear shifter is critical for best performance using combustion engines. Try experimenting not just "big to small" or "small to big". But also try the "small to medium". Then compound gears ( where ----- is an axle)
    ----B----
    ----S--S
    --------M
See how that would get an in-between ratio?

  • @Foxskulls428

for two gas engines, big gear to medium gear to small gear to drive shaft axel.... for electric, small gear to medium to big to drive shaft axel, one electric on front wheel axel, one gas on rear wheel axel, if you wish to use shifting make your drive shaft push back and engage to the opposite gear ratio.
    O---o-O-o---O
that should be the drive shafts basic look from the side, start there. in 1st gear the small gear on the left and the big middle gear should be engaged... when you shift up and push the drive shaft to the back of the car the middle gear and Right gear should be engaged... make sure to remember small is 1 block medium is two blocks from the center and big gear is three, diagonal gears dont engage you can make your engine smaller overall with that info... smaller cars have better turning but you lose control without WEIGHT and GRIP which feed each other.... a 90 kg weight put AT YOUR CENTER OF MASS will help these issues. also if you put dirt tires and suspension in the back and race wheels and suspension in the front. your front electric acceleration will benefit the race wheels and rear top speed gas motors will benefit the dirt tires and suspension. Good luck and all hail.......

  • @DanyF02
    @DanyF02 3 месяца назад

On the acceleration challenge uphill, you think too much in terms of "Acceleration vs Top speed" while what's holding you back is a matter of "Low RPM power vs High RPM power." Check 17:42 for example. Your RPM are above your electric engines limits (they stop helping after 60km/h as per your power graph) during the entire climb, which means adding more electric engines mostly just adds more weight while more gas engine could help more, until you start switching gears anyway.
23:53: I love how you built a little attachment spot for each front spoilers before talking about how it's hard to figure out how to build things efficiently in this game... while you had perfectly good attachment points directly on the suspension for the spoilers! lol
It's so fun watching you play this game, I hope you keep it up and eventually start showcasing some workshop stuff!

Scrap, You are making a few big mistakes:
    1. electric engines should be put along those combustion, they should drive the same axis as gas engines to reduce power gap between engines...
    2. You need ONLY ONE electric engine to have full throttle at start, rest is rely on power from gas engines
    3. gas engines have better mass/power (throttle) ratio

  • @mareksoucek4514
    @mareksoucek4514 3 месяца назад

Hey scrapman, for acceleration and holding the speed you want more torque, meaning you want smaller gear going to bigger, 2 gearboxes and then possible two same sized gears (medium are probbly best) and then you want medium gears going to big. It's the best way to do it.
Also, you want each type of engine going to different gearbox. Since electric provides torque and acceleration, but combustion engine provides speed and power. The game itself will know, when is the best time to use which one. You lowkey want to make engageable system of power. The game will use electric for accelerating and combustion for keeping the speed.

Honestly, I think you should go 'Free Drive' to do your testing before you do any of the actual events. It may or may not be a thing yet, but if it keeps an overall performance score based on your event placements, even if you go back to redo them, you're probably wrecking your overall stats. I don't know if that's a thing you're concerned about in the long run, but as it keeps rank scoring against other player's ghosts and times, personally, I would consider it....but that's just me.
That being said, most of this only really applies if the game uses all information cumulatively, instead of using just the best results.

Setting your electric engines on assorted parts of the gear train will help reduce that middle drop. Their power offering is limited by the "top speed" they can provide, once that is exceeded it no longer benefits your acceleration. Three electrics with 3:1 [small gear to big gear], 1:1 [direct drive] and 1:3 [big gear to small gear] should ease the drop. This can also be done with gear shift parts.

  • @salvoix86

My first proper creation was a rear-wheel drive offroader with 4 combustion engines and 2 medium(?) electric motors. The rear axle had a small gear, which meshed with a medium gear on an axle that had the electric motors attached. Then, that same axle had a small gear which meshed with a medium gear on another axle that housed the combustion engines. This setup allows the electric motors to provide acceleration up to higher rpms, making your torque curve longer. Make sure you balance gas and electric power to smooth the curve, for constant acceleration at any speed. A lighter, smaller car, will always have better handling than a big car like yours, not accounting for suspention and power differences. Basically, make an racing rc car.
