Ah, for those who don't know, the "mother-in-law door" is what you get when you convert a barn into a house. Old barns had a big wide door above the horse entrance with a pulley and tackle system for raising bales of hay into the loft above the horses. Interesting that they kept the door when converting the barn.
Probably planning to put a juliet balcony on or something similar at some point. Honestly I think it's a great idea especially for moving large furniture like couches, just go straight in the double doors on the upper floor and don't need to worry about fitting it around the stairs
@@Lilith-Rose Why would you put a couch on the second floor, though? But you have a good point about making furniture moving easier. Bed old? Pitch it out the second floor door!
@@anonygent well the ground floor in that one vas garages built in, and actually a lot of people have living rooms upstairs. But yes beds, especially divans, are a pain to move
I live just outside Boston… My sister owns her own home, and things are more than a little outdated. They can’t afford to fix EVERYTHING at once, so they (she and her husband) get things done gradually and in a prioritized manner (and they are very careful and aware of what is/isn’t working). They had an electrician in to do some work last year. The poor guy was rather shocked and asked how the house passed inspection (sister has been living there a while, ownership is newish). Well…. it didn’t pass inspection (and still wouldn’t, though things are improving); didn’t have to. My late paternal grandmother owned it outright, so then my dad and his siblings inherited it, and sis bought them out of their shares. There is just a running list of things needing to get fixed that keeps getting longer…

Just a regular womans houshold. Same as when i go to my mothers house. Different "artificial" smells everywhere (artificial meaning not from the house itself but from something else. but not necessarily chemical). And i always have to gag because they are so intense with my mother not even noticing it -.-
When our dog got skunked and came inside the house before we realized it, I had a selection of some of the same odor absorbent "fresheners." Now when I see those things at Menards, all I think of is skunk and fake lemons/oranges!
@@lynnie5551 Its fascinating how our brain works. During my military time i tried to overspray vomit smell with deodorant. At least for the next 10 years, when ever i smelled that specific Axe Bodyspray, i started to gag. ^^

That “green gutter” thing was actually kinda cool. The person who lives at 3:10 must have a really high electricity bill tho.
if you have many lights you dont need them to be that powerful than with fewer lights. So insteald of 5x 100wats you can have 10x50W or 20x25W. See LED Strips :P Single LED wouldnt light a room at all, but a whole strip lights it at least dimly.
Most of these are either da dangerous or funny. Amazing they passed inspections...

Life hack. If you live in a small apartment and have a washer and dryer and live in snow country. During the winter disconnect the dryer exhaust from the back of the dryer. Then take an old sock and stretch over the dryer exhaust and duct tape in place. When you dry your clothes the sock will catch the lint and let the hot air pass through which will heat your pad.
not a good idea if you have a gas dryer. Plus the humidity coming from the wet clothes will cause all kinds of mold problems.

1:37 Some one didn't understand the precut hole on top was for a deadbolt. Saw 2 holes, bought 2 knobs.
maybe they just want to prevent pets or kids to get out. Until they learn how to open both at the same time, they wont get out. And when kids are able to open both at the same time, they are old enough to go outside on their own ^^

@@lynnie5551 Always have a chair infront of your door, or a small table. So you can put down groceries to open the door. If you need 1 hand or 2 doesnt really matter then.
All those black cables aren't live, they are coax for tv antennas, so not a hazard just messy/lazy workmanship.

Some of these wouldn’t have cost that much more to fix them right! I understand making do , kept having plumbing problems in a septic system , tree roots had collapsed the piece right off the tank going to the drain field ( found by accident after replacing all the plumbing and having tank drained repeatedly and rid-x that weren’t microscopic anymore) couldn’t find a piece in two different counties, the small folders plastic coffee can snapped in there like it was made for it! Still working 5 years later!So thankful for the inspectors, glad you found some of these,I’ve seen some dangerous and unnecessary accidents and deaths that could have been avoided! You guys are much needed on this planet! Stay safe!

No, just the reflections from the windows of the neighboring house.
The X comes from the slightly distorted panes in multiple glazing. The vacuum between the panes pulls them together a bit.

All those improperly supported decks and buildings, gave me anxiety! Some people are unquestionably stupid if they tamper with, or improperly install, any kind of structural supports. People have died in deck collapses, and building collapses. There was a Japanese (I'm pretty sure that it happened in Japan) department store, filled with people, and it collapsed because corners were cut on the concrete mixture. Many died horribly. I saw a fascinating 1 hour documentary about the tragedy, which I'm sure is available online. If not that one, then a different one. It didn't need to happen. This is an example of why greed is considered sinful.
You're likely thinking of the Sampoong Department Store collapse. It was in Seoul, not Japan, and took place on 29 June 1995. There's a decent Wikipedia article, collapse was due to poor design changes during construction and then overloading the roof with the air-conditioning installation.
That may be true for commercial buildings. But our house deck has a support that is off center and leans a bit and has been holding it up since 1976 just fine. I will admit we don't have deck parties. The most people who have been on the deck are 5 at one time I believe.
There was a summer when there was at least one porch collapse in Chicago every weekend. Everytime I watched the news, I was like, "didn't anyone see what happened last week???" You couldn't get me on a porch or balcony that was more than a few feet off the ground!
@@lynnie5551 , yes, I won't go on a deck with more than a handful of people on it. When my time comes, I want to die in my bed, and not by being impaled on a 2×4. I'm funny about things like that.

And many people are waving home inspections when buying homes currently....

@@dredbud9272 NEVER lol I mean, I'd like to burn it down because the fuses are not the biggest problem lol the 12° pitch in the floors and me in a wheelchair is the biggest problem 🤣 I get mad at thishouse every day!! Roll off without trying, getting stuck on the edges of the different boards that make up the floor, etc. From the back door out the front, I can probably get up to doing about 5 mph!

the shower outside could be because they have a hottub on the roof (and conveniently out of shot) and they want people to rinse off, so they don't go into the tub all gross
With the "Meassuring twicw" I would be more concerned with the bathtub on the balconies. WTF? I don't want to give my neighbors a show when I bathe
Hard to say which was the worst? The deck with the cuts off posts was a good one. Some years back in one of our poshest suburbs, a deck on a multi million dollar house collapsed and resulted in one death and other seriously hurt guests. OR perhaps the high heat pics, or should I say, very hot, were interesting. Not sure same there as here, but our hot water systems can only heat to a certain degree, but I have heard of some people removing that safety valve though

Massachusetts has all types of electrical wonders hahaha I’ve seen some of the most craziest things doing construction here in Mass most of these things I’ve seen 5x or more Welcome to Mass and to think we have some of the most toughest inspectors imagine what you see in the southern states
