Amazing Q&A, Kenny! I even found myself dancing to the music this time it was so good. Would love to see and hear more about the process of obtaining an apprenticeship.
Just an addition to question 1, most post secondary schools have opportunities that will help students find positions as well during off times from courses to help gain experience and help build relationships to get into that company afterwards For the second question, plumbing is a red tag trade that is desired throughout the world. Additionally plumbing is one of those trades that the world needs, unlike others.
Thanks so much for making this Kenny. I think you've pretty much answered all my questions for the time being, but I'll be sure to hit you up with a message again whenever I have one. Thanks again, you've been a huge help. Hopefully I can get my foot in the door.
I'm 30 yrs old and originally from Toronto. I've tried to get a Plumber apprenticeship back when I was 18 yrs old and spent 3 yrs trying, everything from applying in person to 100s of emailed resumes with zero luck. I ended up moving to Edmonton, AB and got a plumbing job within 1 month ! My question to you, is it hard to get a job as a journeyman in Toronto ?
Hey Adam! Thanks for reaching out man and wow, that’s a lot of networking in Toronto and it’s awesome how fast you got a job in Alberta! From what I’m told, journeyman are very sought after, so if you were to apply here, in theory, it should be relatively with better luck than on you apprenticeship. That being said, I’m not sure if it’s the same with new construction because you have to apply to unions etc, which is a different process, and I think unions work on a seniority rotation. Something to think about.
Kenny Molotov in Edmonton right now majority high rise condos are done by non-union companies. In Toronto GTA it's almost all unionized. I plan to get into service
Dont know how I didn’t find you earlier but thanks for taking the time to answer these questions. I’ve had a tough time finding an apprenticeship opportunity too. Planning on doing the pre-apprenticeship. Sheridan has a two year program that seems to offer more. Do you know anything about it?
Thanks for the support Bryan! I’m glad the videos have been helpful. I’ve talked to some students from the Sheridan program and they all seemed really happy about it. But I don’t know anything first hand. Sorry I couldn’t be more help. Keep me posted on your progress!
Love the video keep up the great work guy also if you have any suggestions can you send a link on the places you suggest people to apply for when it comes to plumbing in the Toronto area
Hey Chris, thanks for the support, unfortunately I don’t have any links on where to apply. Not all companies are always hiring. So this would be a week by week basis. Good luck looking though, and let me know how it goes!
Yellow pages and newspaper? LOL Anyway, thank you for the advice. I'm trying to become an apprentice with the Union. I keep thinking that I'll have to fix a pipe that is inside a wall and the cost to fix the wall will eat up the profit. Do you charge someone for the repair on the wall? If so, do you hire an expert wall builder to repair it? I don't know how to fix a wall, I'm trying to learn plumbing.
Kenn the customer has to repair and pay for the wall, not the plumber. So the customer will hire a drywall contractor after the plumbing is finished. Hope this helps.
Hey bro i recently got a job with a company and we are tracking my hours to go towards my 9000 hours when i apply for an apprentice. (I also get decently paid) but i noticed that the union is now taking apprentices so im a little lost in if i should apply to the union or stay with the guy im with and stay adding up my hours.
Hey blueprint, congrats on tracking your hours. My 2 cents is, if you think the union is going to provide more value than the employer you have now. Then definitely apply. Keep the application to yourself, you don’t need to tell anyone about it. And if you get an interview keep it to yourself as well. If you get the job, then you have to weigh your options then. But no need to stress just yet. Let me know what you decide.
Kenny Molotov thanks for the reply! Im gonna stay with the guy im with for a little bit and keep learning. It is 1 on 1 with him right now so i am learning alot everyday. Keep up the content dude loving the vids!
Hello, I’m a high school student in Hamilton and thinking about getting into plumbing, and there’s a coop program available to get into trades with some companies, but I’m unsure weather to try and graduate this year and take a pre apprenticeship course or take the coop which could possibly lead to an apprenticeship. what are your thoughts? Thanks
Hey UKstar. I would probably lean towards doing a coop, since you don’t have to pay anything to be there (like you would if you took a pre apprenticeship course) it gives you a chance to see if you like the trade and also if the company likes you they might hire you on. Those are my two cents on it, let me know what you decide!
I know this is an old video but I was looking into plumbing as a career and I can across this video. I must say it’s very informative and I love it. I’m considering going to a trade school for a pre-apprentice program. I’m kinda new to Canada and I’ve always wanted to learn a trade. I realize I wanna go into plumbing. Would you recommend I take on the pre-apprenticeship program? I don’t know anyone or have connections to any plumber. Do you think after the pre-apprenticeship program it will be less challenging finding a company to work with? Thanks
Hey NKF, thanks for reaching out and for the kind words! I’ve done a couple of Q & A’s about this topic so give both of these a watch ruclips.net/video/Wc1-nnyueI4/видео.html and also ruclips.net/video/6l38V9ruHt4/видео.html (start at 11:33 minutes). If those don’t answer any other questions you might have, don’t hesitate to drop me a line! Cheers!
Thanks for the Q & A. Going to see if I can get hire, age 52, start classes in august. But need the full time work. Know of any plumbers in Florida?? Vero beach, FL Treasure Coast, FL.
I'm a Plumber from uk London I have city and guilds level 1*2 in plumbing with 10 years experience I want to come to Ontario what advice would you give are my qualifications any good in Canada
Hey Lenny, you would still have to write the exam here from what I know. But I think your hours would be covered. From what I heard you would get a temporary license and then you would have a few months to study and write your certification. You should do some research, I have limited knowledge on this. But I hope it helps!
Hey, I would recommend emailing the school you took the course at and asking if they have a process for finishing. Hopefully they will be able to help you out. Let me know how it goes.
Hi Kenny. I'm an international student and your vlog is SERIOUSLY helpful for me .so thank you. I have a huge misunderstanding about apprenticeship. and my question is : who should go to be an apprentice? Imagine someone who has the certificate in a trade. what happens after graduation? he should go apprenticeship??? or he will get hired??
Hey Ali, in order to get your plumbing license here in Canada, you need to complete your plumbing apprenticeship. In Ontario that includes working 9000 hours and doing school 3 times and then taking the plumbing exam and passing. I hope this helps and thank you for the support!
@@Kennymolotov how about other trades ?? like millwright, welding and so on. and another thing that I have no idea about and may you know something is: can I extend my work permit after graduation (PGWP) while I'm working as apprentice??
I have no idea about the work permit Ali, you will have to ask someone who specializes in that. But all regulated trades have an apprenticeship, with their own hours and prerequisites.
Hey Dwayne, it’s a tough question to answer but I’ll try. Plumbing is a great career, but it’s hard to procure apprenticeship spots. And you wont get paid top dollar until you’re licensed which takes about 5 years. If you’ve been working with your hands for a while, picking up the trade might be easy for you. If you’re new to working with your hands, it might take you around 4-5 years to really get the hang of it. But you start at the bottom of the “totem poll”, so people might be tough on you for a while. If you’re ready for those challenges, then hell yes, Plumbing is a good option to consider.
Thanks for your quick response. Im currently in the printing industry so I'm used to working with my hands and dealing tough people. 4-5 years getting licensed might be a issue but I'll check it out. Thanks
Dwayne Jackson hey Dwayne, wanted to add on to what Kenny said - it could take 4-5 years to get licensed but that also depends on where you live. I’m 24 and looking to be an apprentice. Here in Delaware it only takes 2 years to become a journeyman, whereas in the neighboring state of Maryland it takes 4. Moral of the story is look around and you may find certain states with less intense requirements. Good luck buddy!
Kenny Molotov sorry another question if dont mind.. How about boiler maker and heater installin jobs? Would these two jobs have relevant with a plumming field?
Thanks for your patience Christian, some of my older videos regrettably have this issue, but I get better at mixing later on as you’ll see. Thanks for the support 🙏🤟✌️!
Hi I’m have a question for you, I’m from the Caribbean I’ve been a plumber with a certificate over 18 years I would love to move to Canada this year do you think there would want me in a job
Hey Adrian, thanks for reaching out. I think it would come to what sort of materials you’ve worked with, and what sorts of installations you’ve done. I’m sure there will be similar things and materials here in Canada, but also some differences of those as well. What types of things have you worked with?
Hey Captainsoap64 thanks for reaching out. I would say that’s somewhere in the ballpark in Ontario where you would be starting. But it probably comes down to the company you start with and how big or small they are and what they can afford. I did a video about wage recently ruclips.net/video/aZtEJ0nCYOA/видео.html check it out it might prove useful! Thanks for the support and hope the video helps!
